Alex Lange Likely The Tigers' Closer
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Lange got roughed up in his Grapefruit League outing on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox, but he has looked really sharp at other points this spring. His curveball is one of the best swing-and-miss pitches in baseball and he has everything you want in a closer's demeanor. Trey Wingenter and potentially Trevor Rosenthal could be other candidates to close out games for Detroit, but Lange is likely to open the year as the team's primary closer. Manager A.J. Hinch is unlikely to name Lange his closer anytime soon, but for fantasy purposes, Lange is the one to target in Detroit's bullpen in 2023.

Lange played a vital role in 2022 for the Tigers and served as a dependable arm in critical situations out of the bullpen. He twirled a 3.41 ERA across a team-high 71 appearances. The right-hander made appearances in various situations, ranging from low to high-leverage situations. He held opponents to a .200 average with a 30.3% strikeout rate. Lange is now cleared to take on the burden as a closer, and the Tigers expect the 27-year-old to maintain his productivity. Lange should definitely be considered an option if he proves to be a shoo-in in the fantasy world.
