  • Jason Foley Picks Up Another Save On Sunday

    Headshot for Jason Foley

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley collected his second save of the season on Sunday, helping the team to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Foley didn't allow a baserunner and didn't strike out anyone either in his two-thirds of an inning. The closer job in Detroit may be Foley's to lose, as the 28-year-old has gotten both of the Tigers opportunities and converted both. It's helped that his main competition, Alex Lange, walked three batters and retired only one in his only appearance this year. Foley should be rostered in any league where saves matter at this point.

  • Alex Lange Has Forgettable Outing On Saturday

    Headshot for Jason Foley

Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Lange walked three batters and struck out one while recording just one out in the team's 7-6 extra-innings win against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Lange came into the game in the seventh inning and loaded the bases on walks, striking out Yoan Moncada in the process. Lange avoided having any earned runs charged to him as Will Vest got Eloy Jimenez to ground into an inning-ending double play. After throwing 23 pitches with control issues evident, it may be unlikely that Lange will pitch again on Sunday. The 28-year-old's next appearance will likely be in the Tigers' next series starting on Monday as they travel to Citi Field to face off against the New York Mets. Jason Foley notched the first save opportunity for the Tigers and appears to be the favorite over Lange to be Detoit's primary closer. Fantasy managers should add Foley in all league formats.

  • Jason Foley Dealing With Arm Fatigue

    Headshot for Jason Foley

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch stated that reliever Jason Foley, who was scheduled to pitch in Sunday's Grapefruit League matchup with the Mets, did not pitch due to "mid-camp pitching fatigue." At least it doesn't sound serious, but on the other hand, fatigue this early in the season doesn't seem to bode well for the rest of the year. Nevertheless, it doesn't sound like Foley is in danger of missing any regular season action at this point. Foley is currently used as a setup reliever, but closer Alex Lange's struggles both last year and this spring could make Foley a candidate to take over as closer if Lange relinquishes the job. Foley pitched well last season for the Tigers with a 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 69 IP, even collecting seven saves along the way.
