Casey Schmitt Out Against Brewers

San Francisco Giants rookie infielder Casey Schmitt (ankle) is not in the starting lineup against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Schmitt received treatment on his ankle on Saturday after he rolled it in the game against Milwaukee, and now he'll take a day off to rest in the series finale. The 24-year-old former second-round pick has been excellent for the Gigantes since his first big-league call-up, as he's gone 23-for-70 (.329) with five doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, two stolen bases and 10 runs in his first 18 MLB contests. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. With veteran Brandon Crawford struggling, Schmitt has taken over shortstop duties of late. But with Schmitt out on Sunday, Crawford will get the nod at the 6 and hit eighth against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea.

Casey Schmitt Absent On Tuesday

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Fantasy managers don't need to panic as this appears to be a routine day off for Schmitt. He has played in every game since joining the team on May 9, so he could use some rest. In the meantime, Thairo Estrada will cover shortstop and bat second versus right-hander Sonny Gray on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streaming option considering Gray has been terrific to begin the season.

Casey Schmitt Continues Mashing Thursday

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt raked on Thursday, going 4-for-4 with a homer in a 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Schmitt added two runs scored and three RBI to his line. He has been on fire since being called up on Tuesday, going 8-for-12 with two homers, four RBI, and five runs scored. Schmitt is currently playing shortstop with Brandon Crawford out, but he could move into more of a super-utility role when Crawford returns. The Giants obviously want their No. 4 prospect to play, and if he continues to hit they'll have no problem keeping him in the big leagues. He is worth a speculative add in most leagues.

There is a strong chance that the San Francisco Giants call up infield prospect Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento for Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals, according to sources. Schmitt has gotten off to a nice start in the minors and recently added second base to his work at third and shortstop. The 24-year-old was hitting a robust .313 (42-for-134) with 10 doubles, a homer, 22 RBI, three stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 32 games for Sacramento. Schmitt, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could serve in a super-utility infield role in his first taste of the big leagues for the Giants. He has impressive raw power but will need to show that he can handle offspeed pitches at the big-league level. UPDATE: The Giants officially called Schmitt up on Tuesday.
