  • Jordan Westburg Continues To Ascend

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg continued his strong season on Tuesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Westburg went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the team's victory. Westburg has quietly been putting up very solid numbers for a strong Orioles offense, but has been overlooked with so much star power in the lineup. On the season, Westburg is hitting .316 with four homers, 14 RBI and two stolen bases. As part of one of the best lineups in the league, Westburg should be rostered in most formats with his ability to help across the board.

  • Jordan Westburg, Austin Hays Sitting Against Red Sox

    Headshot for Austin Hays

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg and outfielder Austin Hays are not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. With the two resting in Beantown, Tony Kemp is playing second base and batting ninth, while Colton Cowser starts in left field and is hitting seventh in the lineup against Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. This will be Westburg's first game off of the season, and he could use the break, as he's started off the year hitting just .194 in his first 34 plate appearances in 2024. Hays has also started slow, going just 2-for-26 (.077) in his first eight games played. Cowser has never faced Bello in his career, while Kemp has one hit in his two at-bats against him. Cowser is the better upside sleeper play in DFS and is off to a .455 (5-for-11) start in 2024.

  • Jordan Westburg Hits Walk-Off Homer Monday

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles second/third baseman Jordan Westburg made his one hit count in Monday's 6-4 win over the Royals, going 1-for-4 with a walk-off home run. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Westburg took an 0-2 fastball over the right-center field wall to end the game. The 25-year-old earned a roster spot and is slashing .231/.286/.462 with five RBI in the early going. Given his multi-position eligibility and the lineup around him, he should provide some fantasy value in deeper leagues. However, the O's have plenty of big-league talent and even more talent waiting in the minors, so he will need to produce to earn consistent playing time.

  • Offseason In Review: Baltimore Orioles

    Headshot for Felix Bautista

Between a new owner, a new lease at Camden Yards, and one of the offseason’s biggest trades, the Orioles made plenty of news on and off the field this winter.  Now the question is whether the reigning AL East champions can take the next step forward to challenge for a World Series title. Major League…

  • Jordan Westburg Is Fine

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) is fine after being removed from the Grapefruit League game early on Tuesday versus the Toronto Blue Jays after he was hit by a pitch on his left elbow. Even if Westburg is held out for another day or two, he should be just fine for Opening Day on March 28 against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The 25-year-old made his major-league debut in 2023 and saw sporadic playing time while slashing .260/.311/.404 with three home runs, 23 RBI and four stolen bases in 228 trips to the plate over 68 games. He should see more playing time in 2024 in a stacked Baltimore lineup in his first full year in the majors. Westburg's plate discipline isn't the greatest, but his power/speed combination makes him attractive as a middle-infield option in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

  • Jordan Westburg Leaves Early After Being Hit By Pitch

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays early after being hit by a fastball on his left elbow. He initially stayed in the game to run the bases but was eventually removed from the contest in the next inning. It's unknown if Westburg went for X-rays on his elbow, but he was wearing a guard on the same arm that was hit. We'll pass along any more information on the 25-year-old's injury when it becomes available, but for now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. In his first year in the big leagues with the O's in 2023, the 25-year-old hit .260/.311/.404 with three homers and 23 RBI in 68 games. Playing time could once again be an issue for Westburg, and he needs to improve his plate discipline heading into his first full season in the majors in 2024.

  • Jordan Westburg Hits Three-Run Homer Tuesday

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles second/third baseman Jordan Westburg had a nice game at the plate in Tuesday's 12-8 Grapefruit League win over the Rays. The 25-year-old went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run. Westburg has put together a solid showing offensively this spring, batting .286 with two HR and five RBI in 28 at-bats. The O's have a ton of young depth, so while he may not be a lock to start the season with the team, he put forth a respectable .260/.311/.404 slash line in 228 plate appearances in 2023. Whether he starts the season with the O's will of course impact his fantasy value, but he will be worth a look if he does end up starting in one of baseball's best lineups.

  • Jordan Westburg Not A Lock For Opening Day Roster

    Headshot for Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg said he doesn't think he's a lock to make the team's Opening Day roster, so he will come to spring training ready to compete for a spot this year. "100%. I don't think I solidified anything in my role. I'd love to win a job," Westburg said. He's probably right after he went 54-for-208 (.260) with three home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 23 RBI, four stolen bases and 26 runs scored in his first 68 major-league games for Baltimore in 2023. His minor-league numbers were very impressive though, so if he has a strong showing in camp this spring, Westburg could easily win the starting second base job for the upstart Orioles. The 24-year-old's plate discipline could use some work, but with more playing time in a strong Baltimore offense, his power could come through in his first full big-league season in 2024.
