  • Spencer Torkelson Sent To Triple-A

The Detroit Tigers optioned rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Torkelson was scheduled to start on the bench on Sunday before the series finale against the Cleveland Guardians was postponed, and now he'll find himself heading back to the minors during the All-Star break. The former first overall pick in 2020 has struggled mightily this year in his first taste of big-league pitching, hitting just .197/.282/.295 with five home runs, 21 RBI and 25 runs scored in 298 plate appearances over 83 games. He's struck out 76 times while walking 29 times. It remains to be seen how long the 22-year-old will work on his approach with Toledo, but we should see Torkelson back in the big leagues sooner than later.

  • Spencer Torkelson Sitting Against Royals

Detroit Tigers rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson (head) is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. Torkelson left early on Friday after he was hit in the head by a pitch, and he's likely still in the league's concussion protocol. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 22-year-old former first overall pick in 2020 has struggled at the plate in his first taste of major league pitching, as he's hitting just .194/.287/.292 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 19 runs scored in his first 216 at-bats for the Tigers. Kody Clemens is taking over at the hot corner on Saturday and is hitting eighth against Royals left-hander Kris Bubic. Clemens will be a low-upside DFS target at the bottom of the order. He has five hits in 36 at-bats for the Tigers this year with a homer and five RBI.

  • Spencer Torkelson Absent From Saturday's Lineup

Detroit Tigers' first baseman Spencer Torkelson isn't starting Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will get the day off after hitting .304 with three RBI and four runs over his last six games. The 22-year-old has struggled this season, slashing .192/.281/.291 with four home runs, 16 RBI, and 17 runs across 231 plate appearances. Harold Castro is starting at first base and batting fifth for Torkelson for Saturday's game. Castro is 0-for-17 with four strikeouts over his last five games. Fantasy managers can avoid Castro as a streamer in most league formats.

  • Spencer Torkelson Sitting Out On Saturday

Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is sitting out on Saturday vs. the New York Yankees. This looks to just be a routine day off for the rookie, who's slashing a solid .304/.360/.391 over his last seven games (23 at-bats) but has struggled overall this year. Torkelson is still hitting below the Mendoza Line with a subpar .199/.302/.322 batting line to go along with four home runs and 12 RBI across 146 at-bats for the season. Harold Castro will man first base and hit third against Yankee starter Luis Severino. There isn't much fantasy value to be had across the light-hitting Tigers lineup.

  • Spencer Torkelson Sitting Saturday

Detroit Tigers rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson is getting the day off on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Torkelson was initially scheduled to receive the day off on Friday before the game against the Guardians was postponed due to inclement weather. The former first overall pick in 2020 has had a tough go of it in his first 40 major league games, as he's hitting just .179/.292/.309 with a .601 OPS, four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored in 144 plate appearances. The power is real, but the 22-year-old will continue to have growing pains in his rookie season. Harold Castro is at first base and is hitting fifth on Saturday against Guardians right-hander Shane Bieber.

  • Spencer Torkelson Not Starting Friday

Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians. Torkelson has swung a better bat of late, but he's still hitting just .179/.292/.309 with four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored in his first 40 major league games in his rookie season. The former Arizona State product has plenty of power, but he needs to make more contact to do consistent damage for fantasy managers. Harold Castro is at first base and is batting fifth on Friday against Guardians right-hander Shane Bieber. Castro is sporting a .301 batting average with three home runs, eight RBI and 10 runs scored in 76 plate appearances over 25 games for Detroit.
