  • Jake Cronenworth Likely To Avoid Surgery

    Headshot for Jake Cronenworth

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) likely won't need surgery to repair a right wrist fracture that he sustained late last week on a hit by pitch. Still, the 29-year-old will be down for a bit, and there's a chance he won't return from the injured list by the end of the season. It's been a wash of a year for Cronenworth, who's slashing .229/.312/.378 with 10 home runs, 54 runs, 48 RBI, and six steals across 127 games. Fantasy managers still rostering the two-time All-Star should drop him in all formats.

  • Padres Place Jake Cronenworth On 10-Day IL With Wrist Fracture

    Headshot for Jake Cronenworth

The Padres placed infielder Jake Cronenworth on the 10-day injured list this afternoon with a right wrist fracture. Cronenworth told reporters, including Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, that his timetable for return will be more clear in the coming days, though his current hope is that he’ll be able to return this season…

  • Jake Cronenworth Placed On 10-Day Injured List

    Headshot for Jake Cronenworth

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. This news comes after Cronenworth was hit by a pitch during Friday's game. The left-handed slugger suffered a right wrist fracture during that incident. The Padres haven't given a timetable for his return, but this could be the type of injury that ends Cronenworth's season. The 29-year-old is slashing .229/.312/.378 with 10 homers and 48 RBI in 124 games. The Padres have recalled infielder Matthew Batten to take the spot on the active roster.

  • Jake Cronenworth Leaves After Hit By Pitch

    Headshot for Jake Cronenworth

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) left Friday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the top of the ninth inning after he was hit by a pitch in his right wrist area. He was replaced by Jose Azocar, who entered as a pinch-runner. Before leaving early, Cronenworth had gone 1-for-3 in the eventual 7-3 loss. This didn't look good for the 29-year-old left-handed hitter, and he was in a considerable amount of pain before walking off the field. Cronenworth is highly unlikely to be in Saturday's lineup, and fantasy managers may want to prepare for an extended absence, depending on what tests show on his wrist. If Cronenworth is forced to the injured list because of this injury, Garrett Cooper would see more starts at first base in San Diego. Cronenworth entered Friday's game with a disappointing .229 average with just 10 homers and six steals in 2023.

  • Padres Outright Brandon Dixon

    Headshot for Scott Barlow

The Padres announced this afternoon that infielder Brandon Dixon had cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A El Paso. Dixon had previously been designated for assignment to make room for newly-acquired reliever Scott Barlow on the day of the trade deadline last week. Dixon, 31, has never hit much in big league stints with…

  • Padres Land Garrett Cooper, Sean Reynolds From Fish

    Headshot for Garrett Cooper

The San Diego Padres acquired first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper and right-hander Sean Reynolds from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for left-hander Ryan Weathers. Cooper will give the Padres an upgrade at the designated hitter spot, and he can also spell left-handed-hitting Jake Cronenworth at first base against tough left-handed pitchers. The 32-year-old could split playing time at DH with Ji Man Choi, who was also acquired by the Padres in a trade on Tuesday from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The San Diego lineup will be an upgrade for Cooper, but playing time will be harder to come by in his new home. In 82 games (324 plate appearances) in Miami this year, Cooper was hitting .256/.296/.426 with 13 homers, 11 doubles, a triple, 46 RBI and 28 runs scored.

  • Jake Cronenworth To Sit Out Versus Lefty

    Headshot for Jake Cronenworth

San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The left-handed slugger will sit this game out with lefty Rich Hill on the mound for the Pirates. Matthew Batten will draw the start at first base and bat eighth during Tuesday's game. It's not shocking to see the Padres going with a platoon matchup here. Cronenworth is slashing .208/.302/.355 with eight homers, 38 RBI in 97 games this season.
