  • Parker Meadows Slides Down The Lineup Friday

    Headshot for Parker Meadows

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows, originally the club's leadoff hitter to begin the season versus right-handed pitching, has been sent down to the eight-hole for Friday's contest against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Pablo Lopez. Following a big spring training, Meadows has struggled out of the gate to begin the regular season, hitting just .080 without a homer alongside a pair of stolen bases across his first 32 trips to the plate on the season. Meadows' elite defense in center field has kept him in the starting lineup but fantasy managers might want to brace for a demotion to Triple-A of the bat doesn't perk up in short order.

  • Parker Meadows On The Bench Against Lefty

    Headshot for Parker Meadows

Detroit Tigers outfielders Parker Meadows and Kerry Carpenter are both on the bench on Monday with the team facing a left-hander. With Meadows and Carpenter on the bench, Matt Vierling will start in center field and bat leadoff, while Mark Canha will start in left field and hit fifth against New York Mets left-hander Sean Manaea. The 24-year-old Meadows started in all three of the team's first three games and went 1-for-10 with a triple and one run scored. Carpenter has been on the bench now for both games that the team has faced a southpaw, which will limit his fantasy appeal in mixed leagues after he impressed in 2023 with the Tigers. Jake Rogers is serving as Detroit's designated hitter on Monday in the series opener against New York.

  • Parker Meadows Leading Off For Detroit Saturday

    Headshot for Parker Meadows

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows is starting in center field and batting leadoff on Saturday as the team faces the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Michael Soroka. On Opening Day on Thursday against a left-hander, Meadows hit at the bottom of Detroit's batting order and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout to start the year. But now he's atop the lineup against a righty and could be quite valuable as outfield depth in mixed fantasy leagues this year if he sticks in that spot against righties. The 24-year-old had an impressive little run in his first taste of the big leagues last year and is an ascending talent in dynasty/keeper leagues. Meadows may not be a threat to hit more than 15-20 homers, but his outfield defense and speed should keep him in Detroit's lineup regularly.

  • Parker Meadows Hitless Monday

    Headshot for Parker Meadows

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows went 0-for-3 on Monday in a 5-3 Grapefruit League win over the Houston Astros. After starting the spring season 7-for-20 (.350), he's now 0-for-6 in his last two games and 7-for-26 overall (.269). Despite this little rough patch, included in his seven hits are two doubles and two home runs. Right now per Roster Resource, the 24-year-old is projected as the Tigers' leadoff hitter, which would be a boon to his potential fantasy stats, however, he was batting ninth in the order on Monday which would depress his value, so that's something worth keeping an eye on. He's currently going off draft boards late, around pick 289 per his NFBC ADP, but RotoBaller ranks him slightly higher at 269.

  • Akil Baddoo At Risk Of Not Making Opening Day Roster

    Headshot for Akil Baddoo

Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo may or may not make the team's Opening Day roster, according to Evan Woodberry of MLive. Baddoo put together a poor 2023 season, slashing .218/.310/.372 with 11 home runs, 34 RBI, and 14 stolen bases over 312 at-bats. The organization is high on Parker Meadows, who impressed with his defensive ability and speed on the basepaths in a small sample size of 37 games last season. The team could begin the season with Meadows at center field and Riley Greene and Matt Vierling occupying the corner outfield spots. That scenario doesn't leave room for Baddoo. He does have experience playing center field, however, so if Meadows were to struggle, he could fill in for him. The Detroit outfield should come into more focus as spring training gets underway, but for now, it looks like Baddoo could be on the outside looking in.

  • Parker Meadows Has A Chance To Be Detroit's Starting Center Fielder

    Headshot for Parker Meadows

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows has a shot to open the year as the team's starting center fielder. The 6-foot-5 24-year-old appeared in 37 games down the stretch for Detroit last season and slashed .232/.331/.368 with three home runs, 13 RBI, and eight stolen bases over 125 at-bats. He flashed the leather in center field as well. Riley Greene (elbow), who underwent Tommy John Surgery in the offseason is going to shift to a corner outfield spot, with some designated hitter days mixed in, to ease him back into action after his elbow procedure. The emergence of Meadows, particularly on the defensive side, allows the Tigers to comfortably shift Greene, who started 2023 as the team's everyday center fielder. There's a chance that Meadows struggles in spring training or gets off to a slow start to begin the season but the job sounds like it is his to lose. He could be an intriguing late-round OF target, depending on where he slots into the Tigers' lineup.
