  • Latest On Marlins' Rotation

Even after trading Pablo López for Luis Arraez as part of their effort to overhaul the lineup, the Marlins go into 2023 with a strong group of starting pitchers. Defending Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara is followed by Jesús Luzardo, Trevor Rogers and offseason pickup Johnny Cueto. The fifth spot has at least been a bit up in the air,…

  • Braxton Garrett Starting Marlins' First Grapefruit League Game

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett will reportedly start the team's first game in Grapefruit League play, per a tweet from The Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson on Tuesday. Garrett will take on the New York Mets in that matchup. The 25-year-old pitched to a 3.58 ERA and a 3.56 FIP in 88 innings spanning 17 starts last season. He also registered 90 strikeouts compared to 24 walks while logging three pitcher wins in the process. After Sandy Alcantara, Miami's current rotation options include Garrett, Johnny Cueto, Jesus Luzardo, Edward Cabrera, and Trevor Rogers.

  • Marlins Could Consider Six-Man Rotation

Miami Marlins pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. said Monday that the team will "take a look at" implementing a six-man starting rotation, per Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson. Manager Skip Schumaker and general manager Kim Ng presented the idea to Stottlemyre, who said, "We are confident with those six guys all fighting for spots." Those players include Sandy Alcantara, Johnny Cueto, Edward Cabrera, Jesus Luzardo, Trevor Rogers, and Braxton Garrett. Alcantara won the 2022 National League Cy Young Award and is one of fantasy's top pitchers, and Cueto offers a veteran floor with the ability to pitch deeper into games. The other four pitchers offer fantasy upside but also dealt with injuries in 2022. Luzardo is currently being drafted as the earliest of the four at pick 150 overall, with the others ranging from 221 to 454. Spring training will help shape future ADP, but all of these pitchers could be potentially helpful fantasy options if they see routine starts.
