Gabriel Moreno Takes A Seat Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is receiving the day off on Wednesday night versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moreno, the team's everyday backstop, is just getting a normal day of rest. Jose Herrera will catch rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt and will hit eighth against Dodgers right-hander Ryan Pepiot. The 23-year-old Moreno doesn't have much power (just six home runs), but he's hitting a strong .283 (76-for-269) in his first year in the desert and has gone an impressive 16-for-47 (.340) with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, 12 RBI and nine runs scored in 13 games (12 starts) since coming off the injured list on Aug. 13. Herrera is hitting only .213 (19-for-89) and is still searching for his first big-league homer in his 84th game on Wednesday.

Gabriel Moreno Absent From The Lineup For First Game Of Doubleheader

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the San Diego Padres. It sounds like Moreno will get the first game off as Jose Herrera starts behind the dish. The 23-year-old backstop should start Game 2 of the doubleheader, however. Moreno is batting .313/.313/563 with a double, a home run, and two RBI in the five games since he was activated from the injured list. He's an intriguing add in deeper leagues down the stretch.

Gabriel Moreno Activated From The 10-Day IL

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (shoulder) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The 23-year-old catcher has been on the shelf since late July while dealing with left shoulder inflammation. He's compiled a .270/.316/.360 triple-slash line to go along with three home runs, 28 RBI, and four stolen bases over 222 at-bats this year. Veteran Carson Kelly was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The D-Backs are going to give Moreno every opportunity to showcase his skills down the stretch.

Gabriel Moreno To Begin Rehab Assignment On Thursday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (shoulder) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday. He is scheduled to catch five innings in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex league. The 23-year-old has been sidelined since late July due to left shoulder inflammation. The hope is that Moreno will be able to return to the D-Backs lineup by late August.

Gabriel Moreno Hits Off Tee Recently

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (shoulder) was hitting off a tee in the past few days. The 23-year-old could further increase baseball activity and take batting practice at some point early next week. Moreno went down with left shoulder inflammation on July 23 and Carson Kelly and Jose Herrera have split catching duties in his void. Moreno's return timeline remains unclear, but a late-August comeback to the major-league lineup seems reasonable if all goes well. The 2022 No. 1 Toronto Blue Jays prospect has mostly disappointed in 2023, hitting .270 with a .676 OPS, three home runs, 28 RBI, and four stolen bases as Arizona's primary backstop.

Diamondbacks Put Gabriel Moreno On 10-Day Injured List

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed catcher Gabriel Moreno (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with left-shoulder inflammation and recalled catcher Jose Herrera from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The Diamondbacks scratched Moreno from their starting lineup on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds, and now he will miss some time to heal up. The 23-year-old has hit a solid .270 (60-for-222) in just his second major-league season, but his counting stats have left a lot to be desired with only three home runs, 11 doubles, 28 RBI, four stolen bases and 17 runs scored in 74 games for the D-backs. Until Moreno returns, Carson Kelly will operate as Arizona's primary backstop.

Gabriel Moreno Taking A Seat On Sunday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is not starting in Sunday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Carson Kelly is starting behind the dish and will catch Zach Davies in this one. Moreno is slashing .267/.312/.343 with two home runs, 26 RBI, and four stolen bases over 210 at-bats on the season. That's certainly not what the Diamondbacks or fantasy managers were hoping for thus far.

Gabriel Moreno Resting On Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is out of Wednesday's starting lineup versus the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-handed slugger will sit this one out after starting behind the plate the last two games. This season, Moreno is slashing .256/.292/.333 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 53 games. Carson Kelly will start behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Zach Eflin. The expectation is that Moreno will return after his rest day here.
