  • Tucupita Marcano Enjoys Massive Night Monday

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Tucupita Marcano had a big night at the plate Monday as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers by a 6-4 final. Marcano went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, four RBI, and a stolen base on the night. It was the first multi-hit effort for the 23-year-old since back on April 30 while he had collected just two hits over his last three contests. For the season, Marcano is hitting .268 with two homers, two stolen bases, and a .787 OPS across 31 games while striking out in just 12% of his plate appearances. He should continue to see regular playing time given his production at the plate, even if his defense has been subpar to begin his big-league career.

  • Pirates Place Ji-Man Choi On IL, Recall Tucupita Marcano

    Headshot for Ji-Man Choi

The Pirates announced they have placed first-baseman/designated hitter Ji-Man Choi on the 10-day injured list retroactive to yesterday with a strained left achilles. Infielder Tucupita Marcano has been recalled from Triple-A. Choi, 31, was off to a slow start with the Pirates, hitting just .125/.125/.344 with a pair of home runs through his first 32…

  • Tucupita Marcano Faring Well In Minors

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Tucupita Marcano may not have true prospect status after playing 74 MLB games between 2021 and 2022, but he is still a high-end minor leaguer with the potential to make an impact very soon. The middle infielder lacks power but has shown a tendency to avoid strikeouts and put the ball in play, all while displaying his speed on the basepaths. The 23-year-old has impressive bat-to-ball skills, which suggests that he can still be a very strong option off the bench even if he doesn't have an everyday starting role in the majors. Marcano also has great defensive IQ, smooth hands, and impressive range. Marcano is coming off a big week in which he went 10-for-19 (.526) with five doubles, one triple, one homer, and seven RBI. After just seven games, he is already knocking on the door of the majors and earning a promotion sooner rather than later as the Pirates look to inject some youth into their roster.
