  • Josh Lowe Looking Good On Rehab Assignment

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham over the weekend and hit a home run in his second game back on Saturday with a Statcast-projected 106.4 mph, 403-foot shot to right-center field. He finished the game 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBI for the Bulls. The 26-year-old strained his right oblique during spring training and was forced to open the year on the injured list. Lowe is expected back around early May, and there's no reason he should be on your league's waiver wire after breaking out in 2023 with 20 home runs and 32 stolen bases. When Lowe is able to return to Tampa, Amed Rosario and Richie Palacios will likely be hurt the most in terms of playing time in the Rays' outfield. Lowe essentially needs a full spring training's worth of at-bats to get ready.

  • Josh Lowe To Begin Rehab Assignment Thursday

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) is set to start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, manager Kevin Cash said on Monday. Cash said of his rehab assignment length, "It's kind of all just how he feels", suggesting the 26-year-old may not need much time. Lowe only took three Grapefruit League at-bats during the spring before suffering an oblique injury, so it is encouraging to see him progressing well. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for progress updates.

  • Josh Lowe Nearing Rehab Assignment

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) played extended spring training games in Port Charlotte, Florida on Thursday and Friday. After a few more games there, he should join Triple-A Durham to begin a rehab assignment. Lowe only took three Grapefruit League at-bats this past spring, however, so he'll require a fairly lengthy rehab to get ready for game action, setting him up for a return in early May. The 26-year-old former top prospect should not be floating around any fantasy waiver wires after hitting .292 with 20 home runs, 33 doubles, 83 RBI, and 32 stolen bases over 466 ABs a year ago. Veterans Amed Rosario and Harold Ramirez will continue splitting action in right field until Lowe returns, but neither have done enough in the early goings to warrant attention in most leagues.

  • Offseason In Review: Tampa Bay Rays

    Headshot for Jason Adam

The Rays typically make at least one significant trade that sends out a veteran player to reduce spending and acquire controllable talent. Tampa Bay did that again in a major deal with the Dodgers, but it was otherwise a relatively quiet winter at the Trop. Major League Signings RHP Phil Maton: One year, $6.5MM (including buyout…

  • Josh Lowe To Open Season On IL With Oblique Injury

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Rays outfielder Josh Lowe will open the season on the injured list, reports Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times. He is nursing an oblique injury. The 26-year-old was already in the process of recovering from left hip inflammation which had sidelined him for most of the spring. After a disappointing rookie season in 2022,…

  • Josh Lowe Dealing With Oblique Injury, To Open On Injured List

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) is dealing with an oblique injury on Sunday and will start the 2024 regular season on the injured list. Just when Lowe was ready to return from left-hip inflammation, an oblique injury has cropped up that won't allow him to be on the team's Opening Day roster on March 28. The 26-year-old has tantalizing power/speed capabilities after hitting .292 (136-for-466) with 20 home runs, 83 RBI and 32 stolen bases in 135 games in his first full big-league season in 2023. However, his latest injury puts a dent in his fantasy value as an upside No. 3 outfielder for fantasy managers to begin the season. There's no specific timetable for when Lowe might be able to make his season debut, but barring a setback, hopefully he'll be able to return to the Rays before the end of April.

  • Josh Lowe Still A Week From Game Action

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (hip) has progressed to hitting in the batting cage and taking fly balls in camp, but he is still a week away from playing in a game, and manager Kevin Cash said it's realistic he could be ready for Opening Day on March 28. However, the skipper isn't confident in it yet. The 26-year-old has been recovering from an injured left hip in spring training but is making progress. If Lowe does have to begin the season on the injured list, it would likely be a short stint before he made his 2024 debut. Despite his injury, Lowe remains a very attractive low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 fantasy outfielder because of his power/speed upside. Lowe hit an impressive .292 with 20 home runs, 83 RBI, 32 stolen bases and 71 runs scored in 2023.

  • Josh Lowe Probably Out Another Week

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (hip) is progressing but is not yet ready for full baseball activities. Rays skipper Kevin Cash said "probably another week if all goes well" in regards to Lowe's projected timetable to return to the field. The 26-year-old has said he is "confident" he will be ready to go on Opening Day and that still appears to be a realistic scenario. Lowe was excellent at the dish in the 2023 season, hitting .292 with 20 home runs, 32 stolen bases, 83 RBI, and an .835 OPS across 135 games and 501 trips to the plate. His power/speed combination entering his prime is extremely attractive as fantasy managers would be wise to capitalize on his 81.8 ADP for the 2024 campaign.

  • Josh Lowe Confident He'll Be Ready For Opening Day

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (hip) said his left hip is feeling better. He will be re-evaluated on Tuesday and could resume baseball activities in the next couple days at camp. Lowe remains confident that he will be ready and full-go before Opening Day on March 28. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter has been shut down the last couple of days due to left-hip inflammation, but it shouldn't keep him from being ready for the start of the 2024 regular season. He should be considered a low-end No. 2 fantasy outfielder in upcoming drafts due to his power/speed combination as a regular for Tampa. The former 13th overall pick in 2016 broke out in his first full year in the big leagues last year, hitting .292/.335/.500 with an .835 OPS, 20 home runs, 83 RBI, 32 stolen bases and 71 runs scored in 135 games played.

  • Josh Lowe To Be Shut Down For Six Days

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (hip) has left-hip inflammation and will be shut down in camp from baseball activities for six days, and he is unlikely to play in a game for 10 to 15 days. Manager Kevin Cash said they are "not overly concerned" and don't think it will impact Lowe's status for Opening Day in late March. The 26-year-old could still be ready for Opening Day, but he basically has no room for a setback of any kind, and even if he's ready, he could be rusty early on after missing a bunch of Grapefruit League action. It's something to consider for fantasy managers, but Lowe's value shouldn't be too negatively affected as long as he doesn't miss extended time to open the season. The left-handed hitter slugged 20 homers and stole 32 bases in 2023, so he's a pretty attractive power/speed threat.

  • Josh Lowe Doubles To Extend Spring Hitting Streak

    Headshot for Josh Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays right fielder Josh Lowe went 1-for-2 with a double during Tuesday's Spring Training game against the New York Yankees. He ultimately came around to score. The 26-year-old has now logged a hit in three consecutive Spring Training games dating back to 2023. Of course, his offensive contributions extend beyond the Grapefruit League. Lowe was one of Tampa Bay's top hitters last regular season, slashing .292/.335/.500 with 20 home runs. He also demonstrated his impact on the basepaths, swiping 32 bags on 35 attempts. With solid power and impressive base-stealing skills, Lowe figures to remain a strong fantasy baseball option in 2024.
