  • Kris Bryant Out Of Lineup On Saturday

    Headshot for Kris Bryant

Colorado Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant (back) is out of the lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Rockies manager Bud Black stated he was keeping Bryant out of the lineup as he's dealing with a stiff lower back. This doesn't currently appear to be a severe injury, and Bryant should be considered day-to-day. The 32-year-old has been notably quiet at the plate to start the season, hitting just .120 (3-for-25) with one HR on the season. With Bryant playing multiple positions for the Rockies this season, Michael Toglia (outfield) and Elehuris Montero (first base) are likely beneficiaries of his absence. Toglia and Montero are in the Rockies lineup on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.

  • Michael Toglia, Alan Trejo Make Opening Day Roster

    Headshot for Michael Toglia

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black announced on Tuesday that first baseman/outfielder Michael Toglia and non-roster infielder Alan Trejo have made the Opening Day roster. In addition, right-hander Victor Vodnik made the bullpen, while outfielder Sean Bouchard has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Toglia is a switch-hitting 24-year-old who was taken 23rd overall in 2019 out of UCLA. He showed plenty of power in the minors but hit just .163 (23-for-141) with four homers and nine RBI in 45 games for the Rockies in 2023. Toglia will have a low fantasy ceiling as a platoon option against righties in the outfield while also being a backup at first. Trejo, 27, mostly offers the Rockies defensive versatility on the infield as a bench player. He has just nine homers in 76 career games and hit .224/.284/.507 in a career-high 45 contests in Colorado in 2023.

  • Michael Toglia Being More Aggressive At The Plate

    Headshot for Michael Toglia

Colorado Rockies outfielder Michael Toglia (neck), who returned to the Cactus League lineup on Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians after being scratched on Wednesday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks due to neck stiffness, is looking to be more aggressive while hitting for more power in 2024. Toglia, who stands at 6-foot-5, hit .163 in 45 games last year and has hit just .187 with six home runs in 76 games in two seasons in the majors. The 25-year-old former first-rounder in 2019 is fighting for a roster spot out of camp this year, but he also has minor-league options remaining. More aggressiveness early in counts has benefitted Toglia this spring, but he's still striking out at a high rate. So far in Cactus League action, he's hitting .333/.429/.700 in 14 contests. Toglia won't be on the mixed-league radar if he's in the majors with inconsistent playing time.

  • Michael Toglia Continues To Mash This Spring

    Headshot for Michael Toglia

Colorado Rockies first baseman/outfielder Michael Toglia continued his strong offensive spring Monday, hitting his third home run in a 7-2 Cactus League win over the White Sox. The former first-round pick has not yet been able to stick in the big leagues and is currently fighting for a roster spot. However, he is making a compelling case, batting .345 with nine RBI in 29 plate appearances. Toglia does have the pedigree and would have the benefit of playing his home games in Coors Field, but he will need to prove that he can consistently produce if he does make the team before fantasy managers can trust him.
