  • Josh Jung Placed On 60-Day Injured List

    Headshot for Josh Jung

The Texas Rangers officially moved third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) to the 60-day injured list on Monday with a right-wrist fracture. The club also placed infielder Justin Foscue (oblique) on the 10-day injured list and selected the contract of infielder Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock. The oft-injured Jung is one of the rising young third basemen in the game, but the 26-year-old hasn't been able to stay healthy early in his career and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks due to a broken right wrist. Despite the lengthy layoff, fantasy managers should keep Jung stashed in an IL spot in all leagues until he's able to return. In the meantime, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran will likely continue splitting playing time at the hot corner for the defending World Series champions.

  • Josh Jung Now Expected To Miss 8-10 Weeks

    Headshot for Josh Jung

After having surgery on his broken right wrist on Wednesday, Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is now expected to have an eight- to 10-week time frame for a return. The repair of his wrist was a little bit more involved than it appeared to be on his X-rays. Jung fractured his right wrist on Monday when he was hit by a pitch and will now miss extended time. The 26-year-old is quickly developing a reputation for being injury-prone, but he needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues because of his power-hitting upside in a strong lineup when he's healthy. The Rangers called up infield prospect Justin Foscue from the minors earlier this week, but it's been Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran that have started a game apiece at the hot corner since Jung's injury.

  • Josh Jung Undergoes Surgery, Expected To Be Out Six Weeks

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) had surgery on his broken right wrist on Tuesday in Phoenix, and general manager Chris Young said Jung is expected to be out for six weeks. The surgery was performed by the same surgeon who did Jung's thumb surgery last August. The Rangers called up infield prospect Justin Foscue from Triple-A on Monday, but Josh Smith is getting the first start at the hot corner for the Rangers on Tuesday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Zach Eflin. Foscue was the 14th overall pick in 2020 out of Mississippi State and has the ability to play third, first and second base, but he could operate as a utility man on the infield for the Rangers until Jung is able to return. Jung needs to be stashed in an injured list spot in all fantasy leagues.

  • Josh Jung Officially Placed On Injured List

    Headshot for Josh Jung

The Texas Rangers officially placed third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and recalled infield prospect Justin Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Jung was hit by a pitch on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays and is now likely to miss extended time. The 26-year-old needs to be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues until he's able to return. When he have a more concrete timetable for how long Jung is expected to be out, we'll pass it along. Foscue, the 14th overall pick in 2020 out of Mississippi State will be making his MLB debut when he gets into a game, and he should see plenty of at-bats between third and first base with both Jung and Nathaniel Lowe (oblique) sidelined. Foscue can also play second base and gives Texas plenty of defensive versatility. He's at least worth a pickup in AL-only leagues.

  • Rangers Say Josh Jung Has A Fractured Wrist

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy announced after Monday's 9-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays that third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) suffered a fractured wrist after he was hit by a pitch during the ninth inning. Jung exited in the middle of his at-bat after launching a three-run home run earlier in the game, and he was replaced by Josh H. Smith at third base. It's awful news for the Rangers and fantasy managers alike, as the 26-year-old All-Star is going to face some kind of extended absence following the setback. Jung was off to ridiculous start, too, hitting 7-for-17 (.412) with two homers, six RBI, and one stolen base covering four games. While he's sidelined, super-utility man Ezequiel Duran is worth a look in all fantasy formats for his positional versatility and likely everyday role at the hot corner for however long Jung is out.

  • Josh Jung Playing Saturday

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) was at third base and hitting third in the lineup Saturday. It was announced earlier in the week that Jung would likely be ready for Opening Day and his getting into the lineup with five days left should bode well for his chances. ATC projects Jung to have a .259/.313/.461 slash line in 2024. Fantasy managers will most likely be more interested in his projected 26 home runs and 81 RBI. Jung connected on 23 homers over 122 games last season with a .266 average. His .340 BABIP calls for a reduction in average but his .201 ISO shows his power potential. The .201 ISO produced by the 26-year-old finished in between household names such as Manny Machado, Jose Ramirez, and Nolan Arenado at third base.

  • Josh Jung Likely To Be Ready For Opening Day

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) is likely to be ready to play in time for Opening Day. There was some uncertainty surrounding Jung's status after manager Bruce Bochy expressed caution regarding his injury. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since early in camp due to a calf injury. It sounds like Jung is expected to be back in action within the next few days. Fantasy managers don't need to panic as it sounds like Jung is going to be ready for the beginning of the season.

  • Josh Jung Expected To Play In Late Exhibition Games

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) is expected to play in the team's final two exhibition games on March 25th-March 26th against the Boston Red Sox at Global Life Field. He was diagnosed with a left calf strain three weeks ago. The 26-year-old recently underwent an MRI, which showed that his left strain is improving but he has yet to be cleared for running. Barring any setbacks, Jung will likely play in the team's final spring games and has a shot to be cleared for Opening Day. He slashed .266/.315/.467 with 23 home runs, 70 RBI, 75 runs, and a stolen base over 515 plate appearances in 2023. Jung has an NFBC ADP of 113 and remains a solid pick at his current ADP despite the injury.

  • Josh Jung Improving But Not Cleared To Run

    Headshot for Josh Jung

An MRI on Friday showed that Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung's (calf) left calf is improving, but not enough for the team to let him ramp up his running program. Although Jung is participating in other baseball activities, the fact that he's still not running three weeks removed from a strained left calf means his availability is legitimately threatened for Texas' regular-season opener on March 28 at home versus the Chicago Cubs. Although the 26-year-old former first-round pick garnered All-Star honors during in his first year in the big leagues in 2023, he fizzled down the stretch with a .196/.241/.275 triple-slash line, one home run, and three RBI in 51 at-bats across September and October after returning from a fractured left thumb. But after hitting .308 with an .867 OPS in 17 postseason games for the World Series-champion Rangers, Jung's 102.5 Yahoo ADP is certainly enticing, despite the injury.

  • Josh Jung To Play In Minor-League Game

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) will hit in a minor-league game at spring training on Tuesday. He still isn't running 100 percent but might not be far from serving as a designated hitter in a Cactus League game. Jung took live batting practice on Monday after he was cleared to resume baseball activities over the weekend. The 26-year-old is recovering from a calf strain he suffered early in camp but still has time to get ready for Opening Day on March 28. Injuries could be the only think keeping Jung back from being a true star at the third base position eventually. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 10 fantasy third baseman. He was a first-time All-Star in 2023 in his first full big-league season despite missing extended time with a thumb injury. Jung finished last regular season with a .266/.315/.467 slash line ,23 homers and 70 RBI in just 122 contests.

  • Josh Jung Doing Baseball Activities

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that third baseman Josh Jung (calf) has begun doing "baseball activities" at camp. Jung is taking some swings in the batting cages on Sunday. Jung, the team's starting third baseman, suffered a left-calf strain early in spring training and is just now resuming baseball activities. As long as he doesn't suffer any further setbacks and is able to get into Cactus League games soon, Jung still has a chance to be ready to play by Opening Day at the end of March. The 26-year-old has developed a reputation for being injury-prone early in his MLB career, but he was still a first-time All-Star in 2023 despite missing extended time due to a thumb injury. Jung hit .266 (127-for-478) with 23 homers and 70 RBI in 122 games last year and is RotoBaller's No. 10 fantasy third baseman heading into his second full season in the bigs.

  • Josh Jung Out A Couple Weeks With Calf Strain

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) will miss a couple weeks after being diagnosed with a left-calf strain. Jung had discomfort in his calf while working out at spring training on Friday and will now miss the next several weeks, but it remains to be seen if this injury will put the 26-year-old in danger of missing Opening Day. He had a great first full major-league season in 2023, making the All-Star team while hitting .266/.315/.467 with 23 home runs, 70 RBI and 75 runs scored in 122 games and 515 plate appearances. However, Jung also missed six weeks with a thumb injury and has developed a reputation already for being injury-prone. After his injury, he hit just .229 with four home runs the rest of the way after returning in August. Jung's power is attractive, but he struck out a third of the time in 2023 and barely took any walks.

  • Josh Jung To Have MRI On Calf

    Headshot for Josh Jung

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) is set to have an MRI on his left calf after feeling some discomfort in a workout on Friday morning. The 26-year-old enjoyed a potent rookie season in 2023 as he slugged 23 home runs alongside a .782 OPS across 122 games, missing time late in the season with a hand injury. His offensive output was good enough to land him his first All-Star appearance while he finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Jung does have some swing-and-miss in his game as evidenced by his 29.3% K% from a season ago while he walked in just 5.8% of his plate appearances, hurting his overall value at the plate. However, his raw power is absolutely worth an investment on draft day.
