Cincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte (face) has avoided a concussion and is considered day-to-day. He was hit in the face with a ball during pregame and ended up being a late scratch for Saturday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. That was scary," said Reds manager David Bell, who said Marte did not need stitches and was "going to be fine." "He got tested as a precaution. There's a chance he's back pretty soon," Bell added. The 21-year-old is considered day-to-day, but it doesn't appear Marte will be out of the lineup long. Alejo Lopez replaced Marte in Sunday's lineup. Lopez went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Marte's next chance to return to the lineup will be Sunday for the series finale against St. Louis.

Big Hype Prospects: Schanuel, Winn, Marte, Harrison, Salas

We've reached the point of the season when prospect call-ups won't expend their rookie status due to time spent on the roster. It's still technically possible for such players to pass the plate appearance or innings pitched thresholds. In any event, this marks an opportunity for teams to offer their young players time to acclimate…

The Cincinnati Reds are calling up infielder prospect Noelvi Marte to the major leagues. The 21-year-old ranks as the club's No. 1 overall prospect and MLB's No. 24 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The Reds add yet another rookie to their already-stacked cast of promising youth currently on the big-league roster. Marte, a key piece of last summer's Luis Castillo trade, figures to see most of his opportunity at shortstop with Matt McLain primarily playing second base while Jonathan India (heel) is sidelined, but he can also play third base. Marte is slashing .279/.358/.454 with 11 home runs, 20 doubles, four triples, 45 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in 348 minor-league at-bats this year. He should be added across most formats with plenty of raw power and speed potential to go with it.

Noelvi Marte Holding His Own In Triple-A

Cincinnati Reds shortstop prospect Noelvi Marte was promoted to Triple-A Louisville on July 10 and has shown he has belonged since that time. In 24 games, the 21-year-old has hit a clean .319 with two homers, 17 RBI and six stolen bases. Apart from three games in Rookie Ball, Marte spent most of his season in Double-A and overall has hit .291 with 10 homers, 42 RBI and 16 stolen bases between all three of his stops. The prize of the Luis Castillo trade last season, Marte has shown a good eye at the plate throughout his career and has begun tapping into his power potential. As exciting as it would be to see Marte in the big leagues this season, the Reds are already shuffling plenty of their young talent at the big-league level and the smart move is to give Marte everyday at-bats. Redraft managers could avoid Marte for now, but he should be rostered in dynasty formats as one of the top shortstop prospects in all of baseball.
