There hasn’t been much positive to say about the Royals this season. They’ve posted a brutal 41-90 record to this point in the season that places them a whopping 26.5 games back even in the extraordinarily weak AL Central, saved from sporting the worst record in baseball only by an abysmal A’s team. • Bobby Witt Jr. Taking Sunday Off

    Headshot for Bobby Witt Jr.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a normal day of rest for Witt, who started the team's last 14 games. In his absence, Maikel Garcia will play shortstop and hit leadoff for KC against Phillies right-hander Taijuan Walker. Matt Duffy is at third base and hitting eighth in the lineup. Witt is an absolute must-start in all fantasy leagues when he's on the field, as he's hitting .268 (120-for-447) on the year with 20 home runs, 67 RBI, 32 stolen bases and 59 runs scored in 110 games in just his second big-league campaign. The young shortstop is also off to a great start in five games in August, going 8-for-21 with two homers, a double, seven RBI, three steals and four runs scored in 23 plate appearances.

  • Bobby Witt Jr. Getting A Breather

    Headshot for Bobby Witt Jr.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is taking a day off on Thursday against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Maikel Garcia will get the nod at shortstop instead and will bat in the leadoff spot against Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Nicky Lopez will also enter the lineup and play third base. He's currently hitting .251/.292/.447 with 16 home runs, 16 doubles, six triples, 51 RBI, 27 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 416 plate appearances over 96 games for the Royals.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, two RBI, and a stolen base in Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Witt then tripled in a run during the fifth frame to get the Royals on the board. The 23-year-old wasn't finished yet, clobbering a homer off Eli Morgan in the seventh. Witt grounded out in his last trip to the dish a double short of the cycle. The former No. 2 overall pick has been just as productive as he was last year, batting .256 with a .738 OPS, 14 round-trippers, 47 RBI, and 27 thefts over 359 at-bats this season.
