  • Adley Rutschman, Colton Cowser Sitting Friday

    Headshot for Colton Cowser

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and rookie outfielder Colton Cowser are both out of the lineup on Friday against the Chicago White Sox. James McCann will do the catching and bat ninth, while Austin Hays will play left field and bat sixth against White Sox right-hander Chris Flexen. Rutschman is currently slumping at the plate but is still hitting an impressive .299/.335/.474 with an .809 OPS, nine home runs and 31 RBI in 194 at-bats for the O's in 2024. The young switch-hitting backstop needs to be in fantasy lineups every day that he's playing. Cowser will head to the bench after starting each of the last 15 games. As a result of the 24-year-old's everyday playing time, Hays has essentially become a fourth outfielder for the Orioles this year. Cowser has cooled off a bit of late as well and is hitting .256 on the year with six homers, 23 RBI and three steals.

  • Adley Rutschman Takes A Seat Against Mariners

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. James McCann will do the catching for right-hander Corbin Burnes and will hit ninth against Mariners right-hander George Kirby. It's just a normal day off for the 26-year-old backstop in the series finale against Seattle. Rutschman is hitting .283 (17-for-60) with five home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games so far in the month of May and is hitting over .300 on the year with nine long balls, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored in 178 total at-bats. Rutschman is one of the best offensive-minded catchers in the game in one of the stronger lineups in baseball. McCann is hitting .215 (14-for-65) with a homer and seven RBI on the year as the backup and has never faced Burnes in his career.

  • Adley Rutschman Hits Walkoff Homer

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman came up clutch for his team during Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The switch-hitting smacked a two-run walkoff home run in the ninth to give the O's the win. This marked his second career walkoff blast and his third home run in his last four games. Rutschman continues to prove why he's arguably the best catcher in baseball right now. His OPS has jumped from .781 to .859 over the last three games.

  • Adley Rutschman's Two Homers Not Enough In Loss

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went yard twice in Monday's extra-inning loss to the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays, accounting for all of the team's offense in the defeat. Rutschman tagged Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios for two solo shots on Monday, with the first coming in the fourth inning and the second on his next at-bat in the sixth. The 26-year-old former No. 1 overall pick continues establishing himself as a fantasy force at the catcher position, hitting safely in 20 of his last 22 games with a .333 average, seven homers, 18 RBI, and one stolen base during this stretch. Rutschman gets two more cracks at the Jays in this series, and fantasy managers should be looking forward to them. In 31 games versus the Jays in his career, Rutschman is now batting a superb .341 (42-for-123) with seven taters, 10 doubles, 22 RBI, and 22 runs scored.

  • Adley Rutschman Belts Grand Slam Friday

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went 3-for-5 with two singles and a grand slam home run in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Royals in Kansas City. The slam cut the Orioles' deficit to 6-4 in the seventh inning, but it would end up being the only runs the O's would push across the plate in the contest. It was just the second home run of the season for the backstop, but he's hitting a solid .297 on the season with 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. After being drafted as the top catcher off the board in fantasy leagues this year, the 26-year-old is nearly holding up his end of the bargain, ranking as the second-highest scoring catcher in Yahoo leagues behind only William Contreras.

  • Adley Rutschman Not In Friday's Lineup

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman will be getting the night off on Friday evening as the O's play host to the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game set. The All-Star catcher is off to a strong start to the 2024 campaign as he has tallied 13 hits in 12 games and has an overall .271/.333/.313 stat line. Rutschman has yet to hit a home run this season, but that should change fairly quickly, as he launched 20 last season. Rutschman, who has batted in the two-hole all season, will cede that spot to Colton Cowser this evening. James McCann will serve as the backstop and will make his fifth start of the season in a difficult matchup against Freddy Peralta.

  • Adley Rutschman Hits Third Homer Of Spring

    Headshot for Adley Rutschman

Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in Grapefruit League action against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The star catcher now has three homers and eight RBI to go along with a .257 batting average this spring. Rutschman has improved in each year of his young big-league career and is coming off a 20 homer, 80 RBI campaign. In addition to his healthy power numbers, he hit a respectable .277. The 26-year-old is entrenched in the No. 1 spot behind the dish in all formats and the combination of a rare position and top tier lineup work to his advantage when considering him in upcoming drafts.
