  • Dylan Carlson Serving As DH On Monday

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (arm) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Houston Astros and right-handed starter Hunter Brown. Carlson is on a no-throw program through at least Monday after suffering from arm fatigue in spring training recently. The 24-year-old switch-hitter could be back patrolling the outfield in Grapefruit League games at some point this week, but the Cardinals won't push the issue. Although Carlson didn't deliver the breakout season many predicted in 2022, he should be an everyday player for the Cardinals in 2023 and has plenty of upside left for fantasy managers, but he'll need to be more consistent against left-handed pitching in order to take the next step.

  • Dylan Carlson Won't Throw Until Monday

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that outfielder Dylan Carlson (arm) is on a "no-throw" plan until at least Monday after injuring his arm in a Grapefruit League game on Thursday. Carlson can continue to hit, but the Cardinals want to rest his arm through the weekend. This doesn't appear to be a very serious injury, so Carlson shouldn't be in danger of missing Opening Day. Many folks were predicting a breakout campaign for Carlson in 2022, but it just didn't come to pass while he dealt with injuries and inconsistency. He finished with a .236/.316/.380 slash line, .695 OPS, eight home runs, 42 RBI, 56 runs scored and five stolen bases in 128 games. The 24-year-old will need to do better against left-handers if he wants to take the next step.

  • Tyler O'Neill Targeting Cardinals' Center Field Job

With last year’s trade of Harrison Bader, the Cardinals have less certainty in center field than they have had in a few years. Dylan Carlson got significant playing time there down the stretch and has been seen as the favorite for the job going forward, but he’ll have competition. Tyler O’Neill told reporters, including Lynn…

  • Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson Competing For Center Field Job

St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Tyler O'Neill and Dylan Carlson are competing for the starting center field job in spring training this year, according to manager Oliver Marmol. The skipper reiterated that O'Neill, Carlson and Lars Nootbaar are the three front-runners for the starting outfield jobs, but the players and starting positions are interchangeable. O'Neill can play left field and center, while Carlson and Nootbaar can play all three outfield positions. O'Neill will play center for Team Canada in this year's World Baseball Classic, so he's been working exclusively there in camp so far. Regardless of where he's playing, the 27-year-old O'Neill will be a lineup regular for the Cards in 2023, making him an intriguing mid-round outfield target for fantasy managers because of his power and speed combination.
