  • Offseason In Review: Houston Astros

    Headshot for Bryan Abreu

The Astros entered the offseason anticipating a few depth acquisitions. An injury to one of their anticipated setup relievers spurred them in another direction: a bold strike for one of the sport’s best late-game weapons. Major League Signings LHP Josh Hader: Five years, $95MM C Victor Caratini: Two years, $12MM 2024 spending: $25MM Total spending: $107MM Option…

  • Chas McCormick Collects A Single Tuesday

    Headshot for Chas McCormick

Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick notched just one of three hits by the team on Tuesday as part of a quiet 2-0 loss to the Miami Marlins. The 28-year-old's sixth-inning single to left field joined Jose Abreu and Corey Julks as the only Astros hitters to record a hit on the afternoon. McCormick has rather quietly been a fantastic hitter in his three-year big-league career. He hit .273 with 22 home runs and 19 stolen bases across 115 games in 2023, production that graded out 33% superior to the league average, as per his 133 wRC+. He has a .259 average with 50 homers and 27 stolen bases across 342 career games, helping him to an excellent 120 wRC+ in that time. He is a rock-solid fantasy asset as he sits in the prime years of his career.

    Headshot for Chas McCormick

Astros ace Justin Verlander discussed his ongoing shoulder issues with reporters (including Chandler Rome of The Athletic) today, and his comments shed little light on whether the veteran righty will be able to take the mound on Opening Day next month. “We still got some time, obviously it’s tight, but things are progressing,” Verlander told…
