Rays Place Luke Raley On Injured List, Designate Trevor Kelley For Assignment

The Rays announced Friday that they’ve placed slugger Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list with a cervical strain and designated right-handed reliever Trevor Kelley for assignment. That pair of moves paves the way for top prospect Junior Caminero to be formally selected to the 40-man roster and called up for his Major League debut…
Sep 22 · MLB Trade Rumors Rays Trevor Kelley Luke RaleyLuke Raley Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Luke Raley (neck) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 21) on Friday with a cervical strain and recalled top infield prospect Junior Caminero from Double-A Montgomery in a corresponding move. The Rays also designated Trevor Kelley for assignment. Raley hasn't started a game since last Saturday and reported numbness in his arm after a pinch-hitting appearance earlier this week, so this could be an injury that makes him unavailable to the Rays once the postseason starts. It would be a major loss, as the 29-year-old left-handed slugger has had a breakout season in 2023 with a .249/.333/.490 slash line, an .824 OPS, 19 home runs, 49 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 56 runs scored in 357 at-bats in his third major-league season.

Luke Raley Will Miss Time With Neck Injury

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that outfielder Luke Raley (neck) will miss some time. There's no timetable for him, but he's very sore on Thursday after reporting numbness in his left arm after a pinch-hitting appearance in the loss to the Los Angles Angels on Wednesday. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Thursday, so we should know more about the specifics of his injury once the results are known. The Rays have already locked up a playoff spot, so there's a good chance that fantasy managers won't have Raley for most, if not all, of the 2023 regular season. Raley hasn't started a game since Sept. 15 when he crashed into a staff member during pre-game batting practice.

Luke Raley Going For MRI On His Arm

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley (arm) said his left arm felt numb and had no strength on his last swing in Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Angles during a pinch-hitting appearance in the seventh inning, and he'll head for an MRI exam on Thursday morning. Before his appearance on Wednesday, Raley hadn't played in a game since Saturday when he collided with a staff member during batting practice before the game. Depending on the results of his MRI exam, this could be an injury that sends the 29-year-old outfielder to the injured list to close out the 2023 regular season. Until then, though, consider him day-to-day. Raley has had a breakout season in his third year in the big leagues, hitting .250/.334/.492 with an .826 OPS, 19 homers, 49 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 56 runs scored in 117 games. The Rays at least hope they can use the left-handed power/speed threat for the postseason.

Luke Raley Comes Up Clutch For Rays

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley finished Thursday's game 2-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored in the team's 4-3 victory over the division-rival Baltimore Orioles, with his home run in the seventh inning being the difference-maker. It was nice to see from Raley, who hadn't cleared the fences in 15 games. Overall, the 28-year-old left-handed slugger has had a breakout 2023 with 19 home runs, 49 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 56 runs scored in 354 at-bats while slashing .251/.336/.494 with an .830 OPS in just his third big-league season. However, he's struggled at the plate so far in the season's final month, going 8-for-38 (.211) with the one home run, two doubles, three RBI, 14 strikeouts, one steal and three runs scored in 13 games (11 starts).

Jose Siri Sustains Hand Fracture

Rays center fielder Jose Siri suffered a fracture in his right hand during this evening’s win over the Twins, manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). He’ll land on the 10-day injured list, though the Rays are hopeful he could return in around three weeks. Siri was injured in the…
Sep 12 · MLB Trade Rumors Closers Rays Jonathan Aranda Josh Lowe Luke Raley Jose SiriJose Siri Exits Early On Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri (hand) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. It sounds like the 28-year-old suffered a hand injury while sliding into second base. The Rays decided to replace Siri with Luke Raley to begin the sixth inning. At the moment, it sounds like Siri was removed as a precaution and he should be considered as day-to-day. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status.

Luke Raley Not In Rays Starting Lineup

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley will start Wednesday's contest against the San Francisco Giants on the bench. Harold Ramirez will take over as the designated hitter and will bat sixth in the order against Giants right-hander Ryan Walker. In his first real extended playing time in the big leagues in 2022, Raley has delivered, slashing .255/.340/.507 with an .846 OPS, 16 home runs, 20 doubles, two triples, 42 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 48 runs scored in 325 plate appearances over 94 games. He hasn't been as good in the second half with a .213 average (16-for-75) with only one home run and six RBI in 24 games (22 starts), but the 28-year-old left-handed slugger should still be in the team's starting lineup on most days against right-handed pitching.

Luke Raley Sitting On Monday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley is not in the team's starting lineup on Monday for the start of a series against the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are using right-hander Ryan Walker as an opener, but lefty Sean Manaea will work as the bulk pitcher out of the bullpen. Harold Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter and will bat third in the order for the Rays. Raley has contributed some nice power/speed numbers for fantasy managers this year. He's produced 16 home runs, 42 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 48 runs scored while slashing .255/.341/.511 with an .851 OPS. But the left-handed slugger is batting only .185 (5-for-27) with two of his 16 bombs off southpaws this year.

Luke Raley Sitting Against Left-Hander

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley is taking the day off on Thursday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Harold Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot for Tampa against Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore. Raley is batting just .192 (5-for-26) with two of his 15 home runs this year against southpaws, and he'll likely continue to sit against most lefties the rest of the way. But that hasn't stopped the 28-year-old left-handed hitter from being valuable in mixed leagues in 2023, as he's currently hitting .256/.342/.505 with an .847 OPS, 15 home runs, 40 RBI, 12 steals and 47 runs scored in 2023. He's gotten off to a slow start in August, though, with just one hit and six strikeouts in 16 at-bats over five games (four starts).

Luke Raley Back In The Lineup For Sunday's Series Finale

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley (knee) is back in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers after missing the last two games with a right knee contusion. Raley suffered the injury during Wednesday's game but is healthy enough to give it a go on Sunday. The 28-year-old has put together a solid 2023 campaign with a .264 batting average and .877 OPS to go along with 15 home runs, 40 RBI, and 12 steals over 261 at-bats.

Luke Raley Still Not Ready To Return

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley (knee) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Saturday's tilt against the Detroit Tigers. Raley fouled a ball off his right knee on Wednesday and will now miss his second straight game, but he's only dealing with a contusion and should be considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's available to return on Sunday. Harold Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter again and is batting fifth, while Manuel Margot is in right field and hitting seventh against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. The 28-year-old Raley has been useful in most fantasy leagues this year with a .266/.355/.529 slash line, .884 OPS, 15 home runs, 40 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 46 runs scored in his 259 at-bats.

Luke Raley Not Ready To Return

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley (knee) remains out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Raley fouled a ball off his right knee in Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees and will receive another day off. Harold Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh, with Josh Lowe playing right field and batting sixth against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. Raley has been a fantasy asset against right-handed pitching due to his power/speed combination from the left side of the plate. Through 86 games (297 plate appearances) in his third major-league season, he's broken out to the tune of 15 home runs, 40 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 46 runs scored while slashing .266/.355/.529 with an .884 OPS. He should be back in the lineup at some point this weekend in Detroit.

Luke Raley Injures Knee Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley (knee) left Wednesday night's loss against the New York Yankees early with a right-knee contusion. Before leaving the contest early, Raley went 0-for-2 with a strikeout to drop his season average to .266 with an .884 OPS. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter fouled a ball off his right knee in the fourth inning. It didn't look like too serious of an injury, and with a scheduled day off for the team on Thursday, hopefully he'll be able to return on Friday for a series opener against the Detroit Tigers on the road. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's in the starting lineup on Friday. Raley has been useful in most fantasy leagues in his third big-league season, as he entered Wednesday's action slashing .268/.357/.533 with an .890 OPS, 15 home runs, 40 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 46 runs scored in 85 games.

Luke Raley Sitting Against Right-Hander

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Atlanta Braves. The left-handed hitter is typically in the team's starting lineup against right-handed pitchers, but he'll find himself on the bench to start this contest against Braves righty Charlie Morton. Outfielder Harold Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter and is batting fifth. Raley has been a productive outfield bat for the first-place Rays in 2023 and has gone 17-for-51 (.333) with four home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, a stolen base and 15 runs scored in 59 trips to the plate in his last 15 games. The 28-year-old should be back in the starting lineup for the final two games of the first half of the season on Saturday and Sunday.

Luke Raley, Brandon Lowe Both Sitting Versus Lefty

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley and second baseman Brandon Lowe are absent from Thursday's lineup versus southpaw Cristopher Sanchez and the Philadelphia Phillies. It looks to be a matchup-based absence for the two lefty-hitters who possess inferior platoon splits against left-handed pitching. Manuel Margot will watch right field and bat sixth while Taylor Walls covers the keystone and hits ninth in this one. Expect Raley and Lowe to be busy during an upcoming three-game weekend set with the Atlanta Braves while slated to oppose three right-handed pitchers.

Yandy Diaz Getting A Day Off On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. This is just a day off for the 31-year-old veteran. Diaz has been an integral part of Tampa Bay's red-hot first half of the season. He's slashing .316/.403/.509 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI over 269 at-bats. Luke Raley is starting in first base in his place and batting cleanup against Luis Castillo and the M's.

Luke Raley Stays Productive As Rays Pull Away Late

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley closed 2-for-4 with an RBI, a double, two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base in Friday's 15-4 smackdown of the Seattle Mariners. An eighth-inning, eight-run blitz would bury the M's in this one. The 28-year-old revelation has been one of the many prolific Rays hitters this year, slashing .280/.363/.577 with 13 homers, 31 RBI, and nine stolen bases over 216 trips to the plate. The lefty-hitting Raley is seeing some chances lately to bat third in the potent Tampa Bay lineup, amplifying his fantasy prospects. Performing to eighth-round roto value in 12-team leagues, Raley should be rostered in more than 37% of Yahoo leagues.
