Seth Brown Leaves Thursday's Game Early

Oakland Athletics infielder/outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) was pulled from Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins with left oblique soreness. He went 0-for-2 before Tyler Soderstrom replaced him as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning. Brown flashed an interesting blend of power and speed at the first base position a season ago but showed diminished fantasy appeal in the anemic A's lineup during 2023. The 31-year-old is slashing .222/.286/.405 with 14 home runs, 52 RBI, and three stolen bases in 343 at-bats. It's fair to consider Brown day-to-day ahead of Oakland's series finale versus the Los Angeles Angels. Look for Aledmys Diaz and Tony Kemp to help out as corner outfielders while Ryan Noda mostly occupies first base.

Seth Brown Records Multi-Hit Game Against Blue Jays

Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two strikeouts in the team's 7-1 loss to the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. The left-handed-hitting Brown is only hitting .215 (62-for-289) on the season with 13 home runs, 45 RBI and 29 runs scored in 92 games (319 plate appearances) in his fifth season in Oakland, but he's been heating up at the plate of late. Since Aug. 28, the 31-year-old outfielder has gone 6-for-23 (.261) with two home runs, three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored in seven games played (six starts). Brown's two-hit performance on Tuesday was his first multi-hit game since Aug. 18.

Seth Brown Sitting On Tuesday

Oakland Athletics first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown is absent from Tuesday's lineup for the matchup against left-hander Angel Zerpa and the Kansas City Royals. The slugger has struggled this season to a .219/.285/.406 slash line with 11 bombs, 23 runs, 42 RBI, and a pair of steals over 79 games. Brown's even worse against lefties and owns just a .285 OPS off of southpaws this year, so it makes sense to give him the day off. Instead, Aledmys Diaz will take his spot in the outfield and bat fifth. The 33-year-old hasn't done much with the bat, as he's hitting .226 with just four homers across 87 games and is irrelevant in all fantasy formats.

Esteury Ruiz Sitting Out On Friday

Oakland Athletics outfielder Esteury Ruiz is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for the 24-year-old speedster. This season, Esteury Ruiz is slashing .251/.304/.331 with 37 RBI and 48 stolen bases over 91 games. Tony Kemp, Lawrence Butler, and Seth Brown will cover the outfield versus right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday. The expectation is that Ruiz will return to the lineup after this game.

Seth Brown On The Bench Against Left-Hander

Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown is on the bench to start Tuesday's matchup with left-hander Joe Jacques and the Boston Red Sox. The slugger struggles against southpaws (career .460 OPS), so it's a good time to give him a break. When Brown has played this season, he's struggled to the tune of a .194 average with nine homers and two steals over 52 contests. Tony Kemp will get a shot to start, playing left field and batting leadoff. The 31-year-old doesn't offer much with the bat, slashing .203/.287/.289 with three home runs, but he has swiped 10 bags across 75 games. Kemp also owns a .273 average this season off of lefties, so he's a decent waiver-wire play in deep leagues.
