  • Jake Fraley, Will Benson Out Against Lefty

    Headshot for Will Benson

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (illness) and Will Benson are both out of the lineup on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies and left-hander Ranger Suarez. Fraley is missing his third straight game due to an illness, while it appears Benson is being rested with a lefty on the mound in this one. Stuart Fairchild is starting in right field and batting leadoff, while Bubba Thompson gets a start in center field and is batting in the nine-hole. Fairchild might be worth a look as a low-cost DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot. He's hitting .250 (10-for-40) so far with no homers, five RBI and five stolen bases in 2024. Fairchild is hitless in his five career at-bats against Suarez, while Thompson has never faced the soft-tossing lefty in his career.

  • Jake Fraley Out Sunday With Illness

    Headshot for Jake Fraley

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Reds second baseman Jonathan India is also sick and out of the lineup. Both players should be considered day-to-day while they recover. Nick Martini will start in right field and bat cleanup in Fraley's absence while Santiago Espinal starts at second base and bats eighth. Martini offers modest DFS appeal for Sunday's slate due to his lineup placement and 13 RBI so far this season.

  • Jake Fraley, Will Benson Not In Saturday's Lineup

    Headshot for Will Benson

Cincinnati Reds outfielders Jake Fraley and Will Benson are not in Saturday's lineup against the Chicago White Sox. Benson and Fraley will sit versus White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. Both outfielders should be available off the bench and will look to re-enter the starting lineup for the series finale on Sunday. Bubba Thompson and Stuart Fairchild will replace Benson and Fraley in the outfield. Thompson is starting in center field, batting eighth, and is hitting .250 (2-for-8) with four stolen bases over nine games this season. Fairchild is starting in right field, hitting fifth and slashing .304/.385/.304 with four stolen bases over nine games in 2024. Fairchild and Thompson are deep-league streamers at best in a tough matchup against Crochet.

  • Jake Fraley, Nick Martini Out Versus Lefty

    Headshot for Jake Fraley

Cincinnati Reds outfielders Jake Fraley and Nick Martini are both sitting out on Monday versus a left-handed hitter. Fraley is fantasy relevant in mixed leagues because of his dominance against right-handed pitching, but he's been on the bench for two of the first four games against left-handed pitchers. The 28-year-old has otherwise started hot, getting a hit in five of his first eight at-bats of the year with a stolen base and two runs scored for the Reds. Martini is also on the bench for the second time against a lefty, but he went 4-for-8 with two home runs and seven RBI in the two games he's playing to open things up. Will Benson is in right field and is batting ninth, while Stuart Fairchild is in center for the Reds and is hitting seventh on Monday against Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez.

  • Matt McLain, Jake Fraley Expected To Be Fine

    Headshot for Jake Fraley

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that second baseman Matt McLain (shoulder) and outfielder Jake Fraley (groin) should both be fine. McLain was scratched from Monday's Cactus League lineup due to left-shoulder soreness, while Fraley was removed from the game early after fouling a pitch off a sensitive area. McLain is scheduled to be back in the spring lineup on Wednesday, but the Reds may give him another day just to be safe. The 24-year-old has played in just five Cactus League games this spring due to an oblique injury that he also dealt with last year. But he should be ready for Opening Day on March 28 and is going to be the Reds' starting second baseman. Fraley has mixed-league value in the strong-side of a platoon because he mashes right-handers.

  • Jake Fraley Leaves Monday's Game Early

    Headshot for Jake Fraley

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley was removed from Monday night's Cactus League game early against the San Francisco Giants after fouling a ball off what appeared to be a part of his body that is very sensitive. Fraley was probably pretty uncomfortable, but he was able to leave the field under his own power and should be fine for Opening Day on March 28. The 28-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder will continue in the strong side of a platoon against right-handed pitchers in 2024 in his third year in Cincinnati and deserves attention for outfield depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues after he hit .256/.339/.443 with career-highs in homers (15), RBI (65) and stolen bases (21) in 111 games last year. RotoBaller has Fraley ranked as the No. 50 fantasy outfielder.

  • Offseason In Review: Cincinnati Reds

    Headshot for Andrew Abbott

The Reds almost made the playoffs last year as they promoted several exciting prospects and seemed to firmly end their rebuilding period. They added to that foundation this offseason by spreading money around to several free agents. • Jake Fraley On A Heater This Spring

    Headshot for Jake Fraley

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is enjoying himself a fine spring to this point in Cactus League action. After a two-hit effort on Wednesday, Fraley is now 5-for-13 (.385) with three doubles, three walks, a stolen base, and three runs scored across 16 trips to the plate, good for a 1.115 OPS in the small sample. The 28-year-old showed a nice combination of power and speed in the 2023 season, slugging 15 home runs and swiping 21 bases across 111 appearances and 380 trips to the plate. ATC projects 13 more homers and 15 swipes for Fraley in the 2024 season but only in another 384 plate appearances. The lefty-swinging outfielder's career .149 average and .482 OPS off of left-handed pitching will limit his usage and puts a damper on his fantasy value.
