  • Offseason In Review: Los Angeles Dodgers

    Headshot for Mookie Betts

The Dodgers stole all the headlines this offseason, as they gave out multiple record-breaking deals, traded for an ace and did a bunch of other stuff as well. Major League Signings RHP/DH Shohei Ohtani: 10 years, $700MM ($680MM deferred) RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto: 12 years, $325MM (plus $51MM posting fee; deal includes two opt-outs) OF Teoscar…

  • Max Muncy, Gavin Lux Out Sick Tuesday

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy and shortstop Gavin Lux are both out of camp on Tuesday due to illnesses. Muncy has been out of Cactus League action for a few days and could miss another day or two while resting up. Both infielders should be feeling just fine for their two-game series in Korea against the division-rival San Diego Padres on March 20-21, though. The 33-year-old Muncy has become injury-prone in recent seasons and won't help fantasy managers with his average, but he can still produce plenty of home runs and RBI in a stacked Dodgers lineup. Lux suffered a season-ending knee injury last spring and missed all of 2023. But he's healthy now and will serve as LA's starting shortstop to open the year. The 26-year-old former first-rounder hasn't seen much success at the big-league level, but he has an opportunity to break out in 2024 if he can stay healthy.

  • Dodgers not yet committed to Lux as starting SS

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that he has not committed to Gavin Lux becoming the Dodgers' regular starter at shortstop just yet.

  • Dodgers Moving Mookie Betts To Shortstop

    Headshot for Mookie Betts

The Dodgers are flipping their middle infield alignment. Mookie Betts is getting the start at shortstop while Gavin Lux will be at second base for this evening’s Cactus League matchup against the Reds. Manager Dave Roberts called the switch “permanent, for now” when chatting with reporters (link via Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic). While that leaves…

  • Gavin Lux's Defense Driver Of Decision To Shift Back To Second Base

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated on Friday that infielder Gavin Lux will shift to second base while Mookie Betts will be handling shortstop duties. Lux's defense at second base was a crucial driver in the decision to put Lux at keystone and move Betts over shortstop. He experienced issues throwing the ball during spring training. The move is "permanent, for now," said Roberts. Lux will play most of the season at second base and could sit against lefties. The 26-year-old played 129 games at second base in 2022 before missing all of last season with a torn ACL and MCL. He slashed .276/.346/.399 with six home runs, 42 RBI, 66 runs, and seven stolen bases over 471 plate appearances. His presence will provide stability at a position that the Dodgers juggled around in 2023. Lux has excellent plate discipline (10.1 BB%), an NFBC ADP of 260, and will look to bounce back in 2024 from last season's gruesome injury. RotoBaller has Lux ranked as the 28th overall second baseman, and he could be a late-round value if he can come close to his 2022 totals despite hitting in the bottom third of a loaded Dodgers lineup.

  • No Guarantee Gavin Lux Is Dodgers Shortstop

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux has experienced issues throwing in his recovery from a torn ACL and that has led to the club being noncommittal to him as their starting shortstop. Heading into the spring, the Dodgers were convinced that the Wisconsin native would be their everyday shortstop, but now it is no sure thing. The Dodgers are fully loaded across their roster, but shortstop depth is one of their weaker positions. If Lux were unable to play shortstop or need more than the average day off, veterans Enrique Hernandez and Miguel Rojas would be the logical replacement. Rojas and Hernandez can be ignored for now and managers should proceed with caution in redraft leagues with Lux.

  • Dodgers Won't Commit To Gavin Lux As Primary Shortstop

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux hasn't been penciled in as the team's primary shortstop quite yet, reports Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. While the club was adamant heading into Spring Training that Lux would be their starting shortstop, they have since become non-committal on the topic, largely due to Lux's throwing issues as he recovers from a torn ACL. Addressing the topic directly, manager Dave Roberts said, "I don't know what's going to happen, but I do know that it will be in the vein of whatever gives us the best chance to win." The Dodgers open their regular season schedule in less than two weeks, and as of now, it's unclear who will be patrolling shortstop. If Lux doesn't earn the job, look for veterans Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor, and Enrique Hernandez to vie for the spot.

  • Gavin Lux Expects To Play In Spring Opener Thursday

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux (knee), who suffered a season-ending knee injury in spring training last year, said he expects to be in the lineup on Thursday against the San Diego Padres for the Cactus League opener on Thursday. Lux ditched the knee brace he had been wearing on his surgically repaired right knee last week, although he's still wearing a compression sleeve after having surgery to fix both his ACL and LCL. The 26-year-old has been fully cleared otherwise, though, and will be LA's starting shortstop in 2024. The former first-rounder was pretty mediocre in 2021 and 2022 for the Dodgers, hitting .261 with 13 homers, 88 RBI and 11 steals in 231 games. Lux has shown solid plate discipline and resides in an excellent offense, but hitting at the bottom of the Dodgers' lineup isn't going to give him a ton of upside, and he's probably not going to run all that much coming off major knee surgery.

  • Gavin Lux A Full-Go For Spring Training

    Headshot for Gavin Lux

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (knee) "is a full-go for Spring Training," according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. Lux tore his ACL last spring and missed all of the 2023 season, but he's healthy once again and is trending toward being the Dodgers' starting shortstop on Opening Day. The former first-round pick has a solid track record in the majors, including a .276/.346/.399 slash line from his last healthy season in 2022. He currently ranks 27th among second basemen (257th overall) in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings.
