  • The Mariners' Quiet Offseason Bullpen Upgrades

    Headshot for Matt Brash

The Mariners hold a tight lead in the AL West with less than a month to go. While certainly not assured, they’ve got a real shot at securing their first division title in over two decades. While an offensive explosion in the second half is a big part of that success, Seattle’s pitching staff kept…

  • Ty France Returns To Mariners Lineup

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (elbow) is back at first base and is hitting sixth in the batting order on Monday against right-hander Tejay Antone and the Cincinnati Reds. France was hit by a pitch on the right elbow on Saturday and was held out of Sunday's action as a result. The 29-year-old will be back in there on Monday, though, to start a series against the Reds in Cincinnati. France picked things up with the bat in the month of August, but he's still hitting a mediocre .254/.341/.375 on the season with only 10 home runs, 30 doubles, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored in 560 plate appearances over 132 games played. He has only four hits and five strikeouts in his last 18 at-bats over seven games since Aug. 26.

  • Ty France Out On Sunday

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (elbow) is not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday as they take on the New York Mets in the series finale. Mike Ford will get the start at first base and is hitting seventh in the order against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill. It shouldn't be a surprise that France is resting on Sunday after he was removed from Saturday's game early after he was hit by a pitch on his right elbow. For now, consider the 29-year-old to be day-to-day and check back on Monday to see if he's back in there for the start of a series against the Reds in Cincinnati. After making his first All-Star team in 2022, France has been mediocre this year by hitting .254 (125-for-493) with 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored in 132 games and 560 trips to the plate.

  • Ty France Exits Saturday's Game Early After HBP

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France (elbow) exited Saturday's game against the New York Mets early after being hit by a pitch on his right elbow. He appeared to be in a lot of pain and was immediately removed from the game. The 29-year-old went 1-for-2 before leaving. Mike Ford replaced him in the top of the sixth inning. The severity of France's injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. France will undergo further evaluation and the Mariners will provide an update after the game. Ford should see an increase in playing time if France were to miss any games. The 31-year-old is slashing .228/.314/.491 with 13 homers and 28 RBI over 194 plate appearances in 2023.

  • Ty France Back In Wednesday's Lineup

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is starting at first base and is batting fifth in the lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Oakland Athletics and right-hander Zach Neal. France was removed from Tuesday's contest against Oakland early in the game as a precaution after he was hit on his left wrist during a pickoff attempt. The injury never looked too serious, and the 29-year-old won't have to miss any additional time. He hasn't been nearly as good as he was in 2022 in his only All-Star season, but he's batting a strong .281 (25-for-89) with three home runs, six doubles, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored in 26 games (25 starts) in the month of August. France has gone 10-for-35 (.286) with two doubles and an RBI in 10 starts since Aug. 19.

  • Ty France Injured Tuesday Night

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) left Tuesday night's game against the Oakland Athletics early with a left-wrist contusion. The injury occurred when France was hit in the wrist on a pickoff attempt in the second inning, so his removal from the game was most likely precautionary. Before departing prematurely, France went hitless in his only at-bat. He was replaced at first base by Mike Ford. Fantasy managers should consider the 29-year-old to be day-to-day until further notice. Check back on Wednesday to see if he's back in action. France hasn't been nearly as good as he was in 2022 when he made his first All-Star team. In 128 games (548 plate appearances) this year coming into Tuesday's game, he was hitting .256 (124-for-484) with 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored for the M's.

  • Ty France Homers, Plays Hero In Tuesday's Win

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France had an excellent night at the plate on Tuesday, hitting a home run and a double while providing a game-winning, two-run single in the 10th inning to secure a 10-8 win over the hosting Kansas City Royals. The game-winner came after closer Andres Munoz blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning and helped keep the Mariners within two games of the Toronto Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot in the American League. For the season, the 29-year-old is hitting .257 with 10 homers and a .724 OPS in 116 games, his worst production since his 69-game rookie season in 2019. Tuesday's big night snapped a three-game hitless streak for France.

  • Mariners Listening On Teoscar Hernandez, Ty France

    Headshot for Ty France

The Seattle Mariners willingness to listen to trade talks on outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and first baseman Ty France ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline is a significant development. The Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies are looking for right-handed hitters. In return, the M's will be looking for young bats. Seattle traded outfielder AJ Pollock and utility man Mark Matthias to the Giants on Monday, but they could still deal Hernandez and/or France by Tuesday. Hernandez has hit .238/.288/.408 with 16 homers, 58 RBI, five steals and 45 runs in 105 games in his first year in Seattle. Meanwhile, France is hitting .253/.324/.367 with only seven homers, 39 RBI and 57 runs in 392 at-bats in 2023.

  • Ty France Returns To Thursday's Lineup

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (undisclosed) is back in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Ronel Blanco. France missed the team's last three games after being involved in a scary collision with Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes while running the bases in Sunday's contest, but he's recovered now and will return on Thursday. Fantasy managers may want to keep him on their benches after he's gone just 6-for-37 (.162) with no homers, two RBI and eight strikeouts in his last nine games since June 24. After making his first All-Star team in 2022, France has come back to Earth a bit with a .267/.334/.401 slash line, seven homers, 22 doubles, 36 RBI and 52 runs scored in his first 82 games in 2023.

  • Ty France To Sit Out On Wednesday

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (ribs) remains out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The right-handed slugger will miss his third game in a row due to a lingering rib issue. France suffered last weekend when he collided with Isaac Paredes in the field. The Mariners haven't placed France on the injured list, so that's a good sign. The hope is that France can get back on the field within the next few days. Mike Ford will cover first base and bat cleanup versus right-hander Alex Cobb on Wednesday.

  • Ty France Scratched From Lineup Against Giants

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (undisclosed) was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. France will now miss his second straight game after suffering an undisclosed injury on Sunday in a scary collision with Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes while running the bases. The 28-year-old shouldn't be out much longer, though, and fantasy managers should continue to consider him day-to-day. The right-handed slugger is currently hitting .267 (86-for-322) on the year with seven home runs, 22 doubles, 36 RBI and 52 runs scored in 82 games and 356 trips to the plate. Mike Ford is getting the start at first base for the M's on Tuesday and is hitting fifth in the lineup against Giants right-hander Keaton Winn.

  • Ty France Not In Monday's Lineup

    Headshot for Ty France

Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France is not in the starting lineup for his team's Monday game against the San Francisco Giants. While there has been no word of an injury to France, he did collide with Isaac Paredes in the field on Sunday, so there could be some lingering soreness. France should be back in the lineup in the next day or so, provided he isn't dealing with anything serious.
