  • Rays Select Raimel Tapia; Place Brandon Lowe, Jason Adam On IL

    Headshot for Jason Adam

12:46PM: The Rays also placed Jason Adam on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain, and called righty Chris Devenski up from Triple-A in the corresponding move.  Adam’s placement was expected after he left yesterday’s game due to injury, and Friday’s appearance was his first since returning from a three-week IL stint with another…

  • Brandon Lowe Placed On Injured List Saturday

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

The Tampa Bay Rays placed second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday and recalled outfielder Raimel Tapia from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Lowe fractured his right patella fouling a ball off his knee on Thursday and is expected to miss the next four to six weeks. It's an unfortunate injury for the 29-year-old left-handed hitter with the regular season coming to a close in just over a week. Even if the Rays make a deep postseason run, Lowe is unlikely to be available to play in October. The Rays are limping to the finish line with key injuries to Lowe, Luke Raley and Randy Arozarena. Lowe finishes his 2023 season with a .231/.328/.443 slash line with 21 home runs, 68 RBI, seven stolen bases and 58 runs scored in 377 at-bats.

  • Brandon Lowe To Miss 4-6 Weeks With Kneecap Fracture

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe has been diagnosed with a right kneecap fracture, manager Kevin Cash told reporters (including Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times). He suffered the injury in yesterday’s win over the Angels when he fouled a ball off his knee. It’s another tough development for Lowe, who is unfortunately no stranger to…

  • Brandon Lowe Finished For 2023 With Knee Fracture

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) has been diagnosed with a right patella fracture and is expected to be shelved for four-to-six weeks. It's a bit of surprising turn of events after the 29-year-old fouled a ball off of his right knee during Thursday's contest but was able to remain in the game for a few more innings. Lowe is obviously done for the regular season and would need the Rays to make a deep postseason run in order to return in 2023. The slugger ran hot and cold all year, ultimately submitting a .231/.328/.443 slash line with 21 home runs, 68 RBI, and seven stolen bases during 377 at-bats. Rookie Curtis Mead, who replaced Lowe in the lineup on Thursday and Friday, should see more action in the infield during the final week of play.

  • Brandon Lowe Going For Testing On His Knee

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) was limping noticeably due to a sore right knee after he fouled a ball off of it on Thursday, and he's gone for more testing on Friday. Lowe is obviously not playing on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, with Isaac Paredes drawing the start at the keystone and hitting fifth against Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt. Curtis Mead is starting at the hot corner. The results of Lowe's tests will determine how much time he will miss, but with only nine games remaining before the end of the regular season, the Rays might just be hoping that he'll be back in time for the playoffs. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter is batting .231 (87-for-377) on the year with 21 homers, 68 RBI, seven stolen bases and 58 runs scored for the Rays.

  • Brandon Lowe Leaves Thursday's Game Early

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) was pulled from Thursday's game versus the Los Angeles Angels due to an apparent right knee injury. The 29-year-old left during the top of the ninth inning after fouling a ball off of his right knee earlier in the game. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before Curtis Mead replaced him defensively. Fantasy managers should deem Lowe day-to-day until we hear more, but it bodes well that he wasn't forced from the contest immediately. The Rays have a deep depth chart at the keystone, so Osleivis Basabe and Jonathan Aranda could also slide in if Lowe is not ready for Friday's series opener vs. the Toronto Blue Jays or beyond.

  • Brandon Lowe Starting On The Pine

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe will start Monday's game on the pine against the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are using right-hander Ryan Walker as an opener, but left-hander Sean Manaea will come out of the bullpen for the Giants as their bulk reliever. Isaac Paredes will start at the keystone and hit cleanup, while Curtis Mead is at third base and batting sixth. Lowe has 27 at-bats against southpaws this year and has only four hits and no home runs against them. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger is batting a lowly .221 (61-for-276), but his power (15 home runs) plays in fantasy at the keystone and he's also driven in 46 runs and stolen six bags in 2023. If Lowe is healthy down the stretch, he could be a nice piece for fantasy squads down the stretch.

  • Brandon Lowe Resting Against Cardinals

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe is not in the starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals and left-hander Matthew Liberatore on Thursday in the series finale. Isaac Paredes will play the keystone and bat fifth, with Curtis Mead at the hot corner and batting seventh against Liberatore. Lowe has just 26 at-bats against southpaws this year and has four hits against them (no homers) for a .154 average. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter appears to be past a disc issue in his back and has hit .258 (23-for-89) with six home runs, five doubles, 16 RBI, two steals and 12 runs scored in 27 games (25 starts) since returning from the injured list on July 4. Lowe probably isn't going to hit for average the rest of the way, but his power at second base can be pretty useful.

  • Brandon Lowe Stays Hot, Hits Two-Run Homer

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe continued his strong July at the plate in Monday's 5-1 win over the Yankees. Lowe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a strikeout. The first-inning blast was his 14th of the season. While his season numbers are still unimpressive, the 29-year-old has batted .284 with five HR, 13 RBI, and two stolen bases in July. Lowe's power potential is elite, so he could provide a boost for fantasy managers down the stretch if he can continue to turn things around.

  • Brandon Lowe Has Three-Hit Night Tuesday

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe had a solid night at the plate in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Marlins. Lowe went 3-for-4 with two singles, a solo home run, and a strikeout. The 29-year-old's 2022 struggles have continued in 2023 as he has slashed .214/.311/.415 with 11 HR, 34 RBI, and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers are aware of his elite power potential, and while he has hit the ball hard this season, he will not provide much fantasy value unless he can hit the ball out of the park more frequently.

  • Luke Raley, Brandon Lowe Both Sitting Versus Lefty

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley and second baseman Brandon Lowe are absent from Thursday's lineup versus southpaw Cristopher Sanchez and the Philadelphia Phillies. It looks to be a matchup-based absence for the two lefty-hitters who possess inferior platoon splits against left-handed pitching. Manuel Margot will watch right field and bat sixth while Taylor Walls covers the keystone and hits ninth in this one. Expect Raley and Lowe to be busy during an upcoming three-game weekend set with the Atlanta Braves while slated to oppose three right-handed pitchers.

  • Brandon Lowe Activated And Starting Against Phillies

    Headshot for Brandon Lowe

The Tampa Bay Rays reinstated second baseman Brandon Lowe (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, and he's starting at second base and batting sixth in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much from Lowe initially at the plate after he missed the past month with a herniated disc in his back. It's an issue that the 28-year-old left-handed slugger could be dealing with for the rest of the season. If five minor-league rehab games, he went 4-for-17 (.235) with one RBI and two doubles. Lowe does have nine home runs in 176 at-bats for the Rays this year, but he's hitting a lowly .205 (36-for-176) with three stolen bases in 50 games.
