  • Nick Madrigal, Codi Heuer Traded To Cubs

Updating an earlier report, the Chicago Cubs have acquired second baseman Nick Madrigal and relief pitcher Codi Heuer from the White Sox for relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Madrigal is out for the rest of the year with a torn hamstring, and over 54 games this year, he slashed .305/.349/.425 with two homers, one steal, 21 RBI and 30 runs scored. Heuer has made 40 appearances this season, going 4-1 with a 5.12 ERA, 1.422 WHIP and 23.5 percent strikeout rate across 38 2/3 innings of work. Heuer is unlikely to have any value outside of SV/HLD formats through the rest of this season. Meanwhile Madrigal now looks set to be the starting second baseman for the Cubs in 2022.

  • Nick Madrigal Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that second baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring) will miss the remainder of the 2021 season. Madrigal successfully underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair the proximal tendon tears in his right hamstring. The second baseman is expected to be held with no restrictions by the spring of 2022. Madrigal had a good sophomore campaign and will finish the year with a .305 batting average to go along with two home runs and 21 RBI. With Madrigal out for the season, the immediate replacements will be infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia and infielder Danny Mendick, but the White Sox could also acquire a second baseman outside of the organization. Both Garcia and Mendick could remain on the waiver wire for now.

  • Nick Madrigal Placed On 60-Day IL With Torn Hamstring

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Thursday with a proximal tear of his right hamstring, the team announced on Twitter. In a corresponding move, the White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Charlotte. Madrigal suffered the injury while running to first base in the seventh inning of Wednesday's game, and now he will be out until the beginning of August at the very earliest. Add in a rehab assignment, and it's entirely possible Madrigal will not return until late August or early September. This is yet another blow to a White Sox squad that has been plagued with injuries this season, as they now lose their rising star second baseman who was slashing .305/.349/.425 with two homers, 21 RBI and 30 runs over 54 games this year. At this point, managers may as well drop Madrigal, as he will not provide much value outside of average and OBP upon his return assuming he does return this year.

  • Nick Madrigal Exits With Hamstring Soreness

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring) had to be helped off the field Wednesday after injuring himself running after a ground ball. The White Sox reported that Madrigal was dealing with hamstring soreness, and would be evaluated further on Thursday. Madrigal has been very hot of late, with a .360/.415/.547 slash line over his last 20 games. Any absence would surely be a difficult pill to swallow for both fantasy managers and White Sox fans. Fantasy managers should prepare for some missed time, and look for further updates on Thursday.

  • Nick Madrigal Goes 2-For-4 With Triple On Sunday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal helped lead the team to a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Madrigal went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run in the game. It was his third multi-hit effort over his past six games. He is now slashing .287/.323/.404 across May and he has a .300/.344/.412 slash line over 46 games on the year. He's scored 28 runs on the season and he's been one of the league's toughest players to strikeout. His 6.6% strikeout rate ranks in the top 1% of the Majors.

  • Nick Madrigal Hits Three Singles In Victory

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal went 3-for-4 with three singles and a RBI in Tuesday's victory versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Madrigal has been in a bit of a slump over the last couple of weeks, but his bat is starting to come alive with seven hits over his last 18 at-bats. Madrigal doesn't offer much power, but he is a great contact hitter and can be useful is deeper mixed leagues. Madrigal is now hitting .289 with one home run and 15 RBI. He will look to keep it going versus John Gant on Wednesday.

  • Nick Madrigal Will Rest On Wednesday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal will be left off of Wednesday's lineup card versus the Minnesota Twins. Madrigal has been one of the best contact hitters this season, but has found himself in a bit of a slump. Madrigal is hitting .204 with one home run and three RBI over the past two weeks. His recent struggles have lowered his batting average to .276 on the season. Madrigal is an underrated second base option when he hitting. Managers should continue to hang on to Madrigal, but rotate him out until he starts to show signs of life again with his inability to offer power. Utility man Danny Mendick will replace Madrigal on Wednesday and bat ninth versus Matt Shoemaker. Mendick hit a grand slam on Tuesday, but only has three hits over his last 18 at-bats. He should remain on the waiver wire and is a risky option in DFS.

  • Nick Madrigal Has Big Night In Victory

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal put together a strong performance in Monday's victory versus the Minnesota Twins. Madrigal entered the game in a mini slump, but went 3-for-4 with a single, double and solo home run. He would finish the game 3-for-5 with two RBI. The home run was the first of his big-league career and he is now hitting .282 with 13 RBI. Madrigal doesn't offer much power, but is a good contact hitter and can valuable in deeper mixed leagues.

  • Nick Madrigal Absent On Thursday's Lineup Card

Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal is getting a routine day of rest versus the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Madrigal is having a nice season with a .295 batting average and 11 RBI, but he has been in a bit of a funk with five hits over his last 23 at-bats. Madrigal doesn't offer power, but he is a steady source for managers seeking hits and batting average. Utility man Leury Garcia will replace Madrigal on Thursday and bat eighth versus Michael Pineda. He should be ignored in all formats.
