He played shortstop on both Wednesday and Thursday before shifting to DH on Friday. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Franco will either be activated on Sunday or Tuesday, assuming his right quad injury poses no issues beforehand.

  • Wander Franco Strikes Out Twice In Rehab Game

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) started at shortstop for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday and went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts. Franco is scheduled to play a few more minor league rehab games this week for Durham, so he didn't play the full game on Wednesday. If the 21-year-old can avoid setbacks this week, there's a chance that he could return from the injured list this weekend to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. Before is injury, Franco was hitting .270/.305/.421 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 27 runs scored and four stolen bases in 45 games as the team's everyday shortstop. He's a must-start fantasy asset once he returns to the majors. Taylor Walls has been filling in at the 6 regularly with Franco sidelined.

  • Wander Franco Could Return This Weekend

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) could return to the majors on either Saturday or Sunday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Franco began a rehab assignment with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Rays this past weekend and he's having his assignment transferred to Triple-A on Wednesday. He will play in three games at Triple-A from Wednesday to Friday, then the team will reassess. Franco has been out since late May with a right quadriceps strain, but it looks like fantasy managers will have his services back soon.

  • Wander Franco Unlikely To Return Next Week

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash provided an update on injured shortstop Wander Franco (quad) on Tuesday. He said that Franco was moving in the right direction, but that he still needed awhile before returning. It was initially believed that Franco would be out for about two weeks after landing on the injured list with a quad strain on May 31. Cash was asked about Franco's updated timeline on Tuesday and he said, "I don't feel like he'll be back in one (more) week." The 21-year-old is slashing .270/.305/.421 with four home runs, four stolen bases, 19 RBI and 27 runs over 45 games on the year. Taylor Walls and Vidal Brujan will continue to cover shortstop for the Rays while Franco is sidelined.

  • Wander Franco Hasn't Resumed Baseball Activities

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) went on the injured list for the second time in his career after he strained his right quadriceps muscle running the bases on May 30. The young shortstop was still limited to rest and treatment as of June 5. The Rays were initially hopeful that the 21-year-old would be able to return from his injury in two weeks, but it looks like that timeline will be extended since Franco isn't really doing anything yet. Fantasy managers must be patient with the young star. Taylor Walls was recently battling an injury of his own, but he returned to the starting lineup on Sunday and should continue to get most of the playing time at the 6 until Franco returns.

  • Wander Franco Hopes To Return In Two Weeks

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps), who was put on the injured list on Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps muscle, said he feels good and hopes to return in around two weeks. Fantasy managers must now be patient with the 21-year-old star and stash him in an IL spot. Franco went 8-for-38 (.211) over the last 14 days, but overall he's hitting .270/.305/.421 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 27 runs scored and four stolen bases in 190 plate appearances over 45 games and is a must-start fantasy asset in all formats. Taylor Walls should see most of the playing time at shortstop with Franco sidelined, while both Vidal Brujan and Isaac Paredes should see more regular playing time as well at other positions.

  • Rays Place Wander Franco On Injured List

The Tampa Bay Rays placed shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right quadriceps strain and selected the contract of right-hander Shawn Armstrong from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. The team also designated left-hander Ben Bowden for assignment. Franco had to leave the game early on Monday against the Texas Rangers, and now he'll be out for at least the next 10 days. The talented 21-year-old was slashing .270/.305/.421 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 27 runs scored and four stolen bases in 45 games for the Rays. He needs to be stashed everywhere. With Franco on the shelf, Taylor Walls should see most of the playing time at shortstop.

  • Wander Franco Exits Monday With Quad Issue

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quad) exited Monday's 9-5 loss to the Rangers after his fourth at-bat. Manager Kevin Cash said that Franco was dealing with a slight tug of the quad after his third hit and that he will see if Franco can play Tuesday, per Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. The 21-year-old dealt with another right quad issue last week but only ended up missing a few games. Hopefully, this will be a similar instance, as Franco has been slashing .270/.305/.421 with four home runs, 19 RBI, and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should check tomorrow morning for more news.

  • Wander Franco Returns Against Marlins

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) is back at shortstop and is hitting second on Tuesday against Miami Marlins right-hander Pablo Lopez. Franco injured his right quadriceps muscle last Friday and didn't start on Saturday or Sunday, but he came off the bench on Sunday. The 21-year-old appears to be good to go after the team's off day on Monday. Fantasy managers will want to get the young superstar back into their starting lineups immediately. Franco has gone 2-for-35 in his last 10 games, but he's still slashing a respectable .261/.290/.412 with four home runs, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and four stolen bases in 38 games played.

  • Wander Franco Being Held Out On Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quad) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Taylor Walls will be covering shortstop and batting ninth in the game. This news doesn't come as much of a surprise. Franco's right quad tightened up during Friday's game. At this point, it doesn't sound like Franco will require a trip to the injured list so he should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • Wander Franco Dealing With Quad Tightness Again

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quad) told reporters after Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles that he was experiencing right quad tightness again during the game. He began experiencing the tightness during a play where he was rounding third base and heading home. Due to the tightness, he avoided sliding at the plate on the play and was tagged out. It's unclear whether or not he will be held out of Saturday's game, but he doesn't anticipate a stint on the injured list will be required.

  • Wander Franco Steals His Fourth Base On Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco helped the team defeat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on Wednesday. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. The 21-year-old is slashing .272/.297/.429 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 23 runs over 36 games this year. He has some gaudy underlying statistics, including a .327 xBA that ranks in the 97th percentile. He's also been one of the toughest players in the majors to strike out this year with a 9.7% strikeout rate (98th percentile).

  • Wander Franco At DH On Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second on Wednesday against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani. Franco left the game early on Tuesday night in a blowout, and although it appeared that he might have tweaked something in his lower body, the Rays said it was just for rest purposes. The 21-year-old could be dealing with a minor issue, but he's good enough to return to the lineup on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should keep him in all season-long lineups, as the rising star is slashing a strong .317/.341/.508 with an .850 OPS, four home runs, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in 29 games. Taylor Walls will draw the start at shortstop and bat eighth against LA.

  • Wander Franco Not Removed Due To Injury

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco left the game early on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels after grounding out in the fourth inning, but the team is saying it wasn't due to an injury. The Rays gave their star shortstop some extra rest after already trailing 8-0 in the game. Franco had been dealing with some minor leg issues recently. Coming into Tuesday's game, Franco had a very nice .322 batting average with four home runs, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases on a league-high 38 hits over 28 games, and he'll remain a must-start in fantasy leagues as long as he's in the lineup. Fantasy managers should expect the 21-year-old rising superstar to be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

  • Wander Franco Back In Lineup

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (hamstring) returned to the lineup for his team's Monday night game against the Oakland A's. Franco was scratched from Sunday's game with a tight hamstring but it appears that the move was just preventative and that the hamstring is not a major issue for the young star. Franco is hitting second against Oakland and is a no-brainer start in all fantasy formats. He is hitting .313 with four homers, 14 runs, 13 RBI, and three steals in 2022.

  • Wander Franco Scratched With Hamstring Tightness

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (hamstring) was scratched from the starting lineup on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins with right hamstring tightness. Manuel Margot, who is serving as the designated hitter, will move up to second in the batting order on Sunday, while Taylor Walls will play shortstop and bat sixth against Twins right-hander Josh Winder. Until we have more information on Franco's injury, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day and make sure to remove him from their lineups on Sunday. The 21-year-old has lived up to the hype so far in 2022, going 26-for-83 with four home runs, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases in his 20 games played.

  • Wander Franco Carrying Elite Expected Stats

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco certainly hasn't disappointed out of the gate for his sophomore MLB season. Through 18 games, he's slashing .307/.329/.587 with four home runs, seven doubles, two stolen bases, 12 RBI and 13 runs. While those numbers are no doubt impressive, his underlying statistics are even more eye-popping. He currently has a .362 xBA (99th percentile), a .432 xwOBA (94th percentile) and a .632 xSLG (94th percentile). These expected stats also come alongside a minuscule 10.1% strikeout rate (96th percentile). The 21-year-old looks to be well on his way to an elite offensive season and there's a good chance we'll be talking about him as a mid or even early first round pick next spring.

  • Wander Franco Back In Action Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) is officially back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Franco was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game as he was hampered by a tight right quadriceps muscle. Luckily, the injury only caused him to miss one game. The 21-year-old has been fantastic at the plate so far this year. Over 10 games, he's slashing .381/.386/.548 with five doubles, one stolen base, five RBI and eight runs scored.

  • Rays Expect Wander Franco To Play Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said he expects shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) to be in the lineup on Tuesday, but he will check with the young shortstop in the morning. Cash said that Franco was getting ready to pinch hit in the ninth inning on Monday. The 21-year-old was scratched from Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs due to a tight right quadriceps muscle, but the initial diagnosis makes it sound like just a minor injury. Yandy Diaz entered the lineup on Monday, with Taylor Walls taking over at shortstop. Franco is off to an excellent start this year with a league-high 16 hits in 42 at-bats, adding five RBI and eight runs scored in 10 games. Fantasy managers need to check back on his status on Tuesday, but he's a must-start player if he's back in the lineup.

  • Wander Franco Tallies Three Hits In Sunday's Win

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco helped lead the team to an 8-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored in the game. It was his second three-hit game of the year already, however the double was his first extra-base hit and he hadn't attempted a steal before Sunday's game. Franco is now 6-for-11 on the young season. The 21-year-old slashed .288/.347/.463 in his first exposure to the majors last year. He showed great plate discipline in the majors last year, striking out just 12% of the time. He has immense upside and if he can put it all together this year, we may be talking about him as a first round pick next spring.
