  • Nick Senzel Non-Tendered By Reds

    Headshot for Nick Senzel

Cincinnati Reds outfielder/infielder Nick Senzel, who was the former No. 2 overall draft pick in 2016, was non-tendered by the Reds on Friday, according to a source. Senzel will now hit the open market this offseason and will be hoping a change in scenery can help him turn things around. The 28-year-old hit 12 home runs, drove in 42 and stole a career-high 14 bases in 104 games in his rookie campaign in 2019 but followed that up with a three-year stretch from 2020-22 where he hit just .229 (127-for-554) with eight home runs, 41 RBI and 12 steals. Injuries certainly haven't helped Senzel's cause. He managed to play in 104 games for Cincy in 2023 and hit .236 (71-for-301) with a career-high 13 home runs, 10 doubles, 42 RBI, six steals and 49 runs scored.

  • Teams Interested In Reds Depth

    Headshot for Will Benson

Cincinnati Reds general manager Nick Krall said rival teams are asking about "a handful" of the team's position players this offseason, which is an unsurprising development given their depth, especially in the infield. Jonathan India and Nick Senzel and rookies Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte all had at least 120 plate appearances in 2023. Meanwhile, outfielders TJ Friedl, Jake Fraley, Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild also had at least 250 trips to the plate. It's one of the reasons the Reds declined first baseman Joey Votto's 2024 option. Senzel is a potential non-tender candidate, and India is a prime trade candidate. "People are calling because you have a lot of guys," Krall said. "We don't need to trade somebody at this point. I'd rather keep as many guys as possible."
