  • Michael Soroka Optioned To Minors

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Michael Soroka has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. This doesn't come as a surprise considering Soroka still needs to build up his stamina. The oft-injured pitcher recently made his spring debut, but he really had no shot at making the Opening Day roster. The expectation is that he'll likely need a month or two to build up his strength and stamina in the minors. The right-hander last pitched in 2020 when he made three starts for the Braves. The former All-Star has a ton of potential, but it's uncertain what he'll be able to contribute after missing multiple seasons. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Soroka to be a fantasy contributor for the first month or so.

  • Michael Soroka To Make Spring Debut Wednesday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Michael Soroka (hamstring) will likely be targeted for two innings when he makes his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. Soroka has been behind the other pitchers in spring training after straining his right hamstring before reporting to camp. The 25-year-old right-hander was an All-Star in just his second big-league season in 2019 before injuries derailed his career. Since 2019, Soroka has made only three major-league starts due to two Achilles tears. He also dealt with right elbow soreness late last year and was shut down. Soroka appears to be healthy now, but he still needs to be built up and won't be ready for the start of the regular season. Because of how little he's pitched in recent seasons, fantasy managers can't realistically consider him a reliable asset in 2023.

  • The Braves' Fifth Starter Competition

Coming off a 101-win campaign, the Braves again look like one of the top teams in the National League. There aren’t many areas of concern on the roster. On the position player side, all but shortstop and left field have established solutions who should play at somewhere between an above-average and star level if healthy.…

  • Michael Soroka Plays Catch Saturday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Michael Soroka (hamstring) played catch on Saturday, according to manager Brian Snitker. The Braves are being very cautious with Soroka in spring training. The 25-year-old was becoming a borderline ace for the Braves before tearing his Achilles in each of the last two seasons. A sore elbow also sidelined him at the end of last season. Soroka's hamstring issue isn't serious, but the Braves aren't taking any chances with him early in camp as he competes for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. There's still potential for Soroka to return to his pre-injury form because he's still very young, but workload restrictions this year will keep his fantasy ceiling low if he's able to win a rotation spot and stay healthy.

  • Michael Soroka Dealing With Hamstring Soreness

Atlanta Braves right-hander Michael Soroka (hamstring) is dealing with hamstring soreness in spring training, according to manager Brian Snitker. Soroka reported the soreness when he arrived in camp, and the Braves are holding him out for now as a precaution. It's not a great start to the spring for the 25-year-old starter as he looks to battle for the fifth rotation spot for the Braves in spring training. Injuries have been the story for Soroka the last two years, as he hasn't pitched since the shortened 2020 season due to two torn Achilles' tendons. He made five starts for Triple-A Gwinnett last year. Before his injuries, Soroka was quickly becoming an ace for the Braves. There's still a chance for Soroka to win a rotation spot for Atlanta, but his limited workload in 2023 will cap his fantasy upside significantly.

  • Mike Soroka Not Pitching In World Baseball Classic

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Soroka (Achilles, elbow) will not pitch in this year's World Baseball Classic for Team Canada. Instead, Soroka will report to spring training in order to try and win a spot in the team's Opening Day rotation. The 25-year-old has had bad injury luck the last two years and hasn't pitched in the majors since the shortened 2020 campaign because of two Achilles tears and an elbow injury. He is expected to be at full health this spring, which will help him as he mainly battles Ian Anderson for the last spot in Atlanta's rotation. Before he was hurt, Soroka was ace-like for the Braves in 2019. Fantasy managers that take a flier on him will be hoping he can get anywhere close to his pre-injury level, but workload restrictions will surely cap whatever upside he has in 2023.
