  • Corbin Burnes Quiets Red Sox Tuesday

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Corbin Burnes shut down the Boston Red Sox in Tuesday's 7-1 victory, throwing seven innings of one-run ball on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill, who is white-hot, took Burnes yard in the first inning, but it was all Burnes from that point on. He allowed one single and two free passes otherwise, tossing four perfect frames during the outing. The 29-year-old perennial Cy Young Award candidate is dealing to begin his O's career, notching a 1.93 ERA and 0.75 WHIP while fanning 20 batters across his first 18 2/3 innings of the campaign. Burnes' next start is lined up for Sunday at home in a matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that traded him away this past offseason. Although Milwaukee's offense is off to a hot start, Burnes is hard to dispute as a must-start fantasy player each time he takes the hill.

  • Corbin Burnes' Next Start Moved Up To Tuesday

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Corbin Burnes will make his next start on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander was originally supposed to pitch on Wednesday, but due to off days, the Orioles decided to have him pitch a day earlier. Cole Irvin will now start on Wednesday with Grayson Rodriguez going on Thursday. Burnes remains a must-start fantasy ace regardless of opponent this season.

  • Corbin Burnes Faces Off With Angels On Opening Day

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Corbin Burnes will go up against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday in Baltimore. It will be his first Opening Day start for the Orioles and he'll match up against the Angels' LHP Patrick Sandoval. Burnes allowed five home runs in five spring games and finished with a 6.75 ERA, although he walked just two while striking out 13 in 16 IP. The Angel batters will see a mix of cut fastball (55%), curve (17%), changeup (11%), slider (9%), and sinker (8%) from the 3x All-Star, with the cutter clocking at 94.4 mph last season and the curveball being his most effective put-away pitch (26.3% Put Away%, 53.1% K%). Having pitched in the National League for all of his career to this point, the 29-year-old hasn't faced the Angels much, but for what it's worth, he's faced superstar Mike Trout three times in his career with Trout going 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly off of the righty.

  • Offseason In Review: Baltimore Orioles

    Headshot for Felix Bautista

Between a new owner, a new lease at Camden Yards, and one of the offseason’s biggest trades, the Orioles made plenty of news on and off the field this winter.  Now the question is whether the reigning AL East champions can take the next step forward to challenge for a World Series title. Major League…

  • Corbin Burnes Officially Named Opening Day Starter

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde announced on Sunday that starting pitcher Corbin Burnes would be the team's Opening Day starter. While it had been assumed, Hyde made it official and it will be Burnes' third straight start on Opening Day -- the prior two coming with his previous club, the Milwaukee Brewers. The Orioles' prize offseason acquisition, Burnes has made three straight All-Star appearances and is a former Cy Young winner (2021). The 29-year-old is the third pitcher coming off of the board in fantasy drafts and justifiably so. He's a solid anchor for any real-life and fantasy pitching staff. RotoBaller likes the righty at 20 overall, slightly ahead of his NFBC ADP of 24.

  • Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

The Orioles got their ace. Baltimore announced the acquisition of 2021 NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes from the Brewers for rookie infielder Joey Ortiz, left-hander DL Hall, and their 2024 Competitive Balance Round A draft pick (#34 overall). Milwaukee designated lefty Ethan Small for assignment to clear the necessary 40-man roster spot. There’d been speculation…

  • Brewers Land DL Hall, Joey Ortiz From Orioles

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired left-hander DL Hall, shortstop Joey Ortiz and the 34th overall pick in this year's MLB draft from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in a blockbuster trade that sent right-hander Corbin Burnes to the O's, according to a source. Hall, 25, was once a top pitching prospect for Baltimore, but he's made 29 appearances and one start in the big leagues and was used as a reliever in 2023 due to an injury. Hall ended up with a 3.26 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 19 1/3 innings last season. With a change of scenery, Hall should have a better shot at cracking Milwaukee's Opening Day rotation, especially with Burnes now gone. Ortiz is in a similar situation after being blocked at the big-league level for a middle-infield spot in Baltimore. The 25-year-old will have more opportunity with the Brew Crew after hitting .321 (112-for-349) with nine home runs, 58 RBI and 11 steals in 88 games for Triple-A Norfolk in 2023.

  • Orioles Acquiring Corbin Burnes From Brewers

    Headshot for Corbin Burnes

The Baltimore Orioles are acquiring right-hander Corbin Burnes, the 2021 National League Cy Young winner, from the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday in exchange for shortstop Joey Ortiz and left-hander DL Hall, according to sources. The move comes just a day after the Angelos family agreed to part with a controlling stake in the franchise. The Orioles get the top-of-the-rotation starter they've been searching for all offseason, although Burnes will be eligible for free agency at the end of 2024. The 29-year-old is a two-time All-Star is almost certain to hit free agency next offseason, as Scott Boras is his agent. Burnes went 10-8 with a 3.39 ERA in 193 2/3 innings for Milwaukee in 2023 and had the best walks-and-hits-per-innings ratio in the NL and fifth-best in the majors. Although he'll be moving to a tougher division in the American League East, Burnes will be backed by an even better offense.
