In conjunction with this post, Anthony Franco will hold a Rockies-centric chat on 9-25-23 at 8:00 pm CDT. Click here to leave a question in advance. As has been the case for a few seasons, the Rockies underperformed internal expectations. While owner Dick Monfort said before Opening Day he felt the team could hover around…

  • Brendan Rodgers Sitting Out On Saturday

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers is out of Saturday's starting lineup versus the San Francisco Giants. Rodgers missed some action recently due to an illness, but this absence appears to be rest related. The 27-year-old will get a breather after going 5-for-20 over his last five games. Harold Castro will cover second base and bat eighth versus right-hander Logan Webb on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Rodgers on the bench.

  • Rockies Outright Coco Montes

    Headshot for Coco Montes

The Rockies have sent infielder Coco Montes outright to Triple-A Albuquerque, according to the transactions log at MLB.com. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday and apparently went unclaimed on waivers. Montes, 27 next month, made his MLB debut with the Rox this season. He appeared in 18 games, hitting .184/.244/.316 through his first 41 trips…

  • Brendan Rodgers Back From Illness

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (illness) is back at second base and is hitting fifth for the Rockies on Friday against left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. Rodgers will be playing in his first game since Sunday due to an illness, but it shouldn't really move the fantasy needle. The 27-year-old has only managed to play in 20 games this year for Colorado due to injury, and he's gone just 17-for-78 (.218) with no home runs, four doubles, a triple, 10 RBI and eight runs scored in 84 plate appearances. Believe it or not, Rodgers is also still searching for his first career stolen base in his fifth MLB season, and he's only hit 28 home runs in 1,182 career trips to the plate.

  • Brendan Rodgers Not Playing After All

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (illness) has been scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup against the visiting Atlanta Braves. Alan Trejo is now starting at the keystone and batting eighth against Braves rookie right-hander Darius Vines. Rodgers will now miss his second straight game due to an illness. Not many fantasy managers were going to be starting the 27-year-old anyway, as he's hit just .218/.274/.295 with no home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored in 78 at-bats in 2023 in yet another disappointing season in Colorado. Trejo is a defense-first player that's hitting .235 (40-for-170) with only two homers, 21 RBI, four stolen bases and 16 runs scored in a bench role for the Rockies.

  • Brendan Rodgers Back In Action For Rockies

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (illness) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Atlanta Braves and rookie right-hander Darius Vines, playing second base and batting in the six-hole. Rodgers missed the team's last two games but is back in action after feeling better. His return doesn't mean much in fantasy, however, as the 27-year-old infielder is slashing just .218/.274/.295 with no home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored in just 20 games played for Colorado in 2023. Rodgers didn't make his season debut until July 31 due to injury, and he has just one hit in 20 plate appearances in his last five games since Aug. 23.

  • Brendan Rodgers Remains Out On Tuesday

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers (illness) remains out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. He was a late scratch from Monday's game due to an illness. It appears Rodgers still isn't feeling up to full speed, so the Rockies will give him another day off. In his absence, Harold Castro will draw the start at second base and bat seventh versus right-hander Charlie Morton on Tuesday.

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (illness) was scratched from Monday's starting lineup against the visiting Atlanta Braves due to illness. Harold Castro will take over at the keystone and will bat seventh in the lineup against Braves right-hander Bryce Elder. Hunter Goodman is playing first base and batting in the six-hole for the Rockies. Rodgers, a former first-rounder in 2015 is quickly running out of time in the big leagues because he just hasn't been able to stay healthy or produce much when he has been on the field. the 27-year-old has played in just 20 games in 2023 and is hitting .218 (17-for-78) with no homers, 10 RBI and eight runs scored.

  • Brendan Rodgers Returns To Rockies Lineup

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Lance Lynn. Rodgers is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup, with Harold Castro starting at second base and batting in the eight-hole. Believe it or not, Friday's contest will only be Rodgers' seventh of the year after he got a late start after recovering from shoulder surgery. The 27-year-old has been slowed by right-hamstring tightness this week, but he'll be back for the weekend. Rodgers is still looking for the first stolen base of his career in his fifth season, and he'll need to prove himself before fantasy managers take notice in mixed leagues the rest of the way. He has five hits and seven K's in his 25 plate appearances in 2023.

  • Brendan Rodgers Still Missing From Lineup

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Thursday for the start of a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Alan Trejo will make another start at the keystone and will hit sixth against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Rodgers is missing his third straight game and could be a candidate to land on the injured list if he's unable to make it back onto the field soon. The 27-year-old has done nothing but disappoint for the most part in his five major-league seasons. Due to an injury, he got a late start in 2023 and has only managed to play in six games to this point. In those six games, he's gone 5-for-24 (.208) with no homers, two RBI, seven strikeouts and no runs scored.

  • Brendan Rodgers Out Of Rockies Lineup Again

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Harold Castro will take over the duties at second base and will hit sixth in the lineup against Brewers right-hander Adrian Houser. Rodgers will sit out for the second straight game due to a tight right hamstring, and he should be considered day-to-day. The oft-injured 27-year-old infielder has missed most of the 2023 season while recovering from shoulder surgery, limiting him to just six games. In those six contests, he's gone 5-for-24 (.208) with two RBI, seven strikeouts and no runs. Rodgers is running out of chances in the big leagues.

  • Brendan Rodgers Scratched With Hamstring Injury

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Milwaukee Brewers and will likely rest on Wednesday as well. Manager Bud Black said that Rodgers tweaked his right hamstring when he went to his right for a grounder on Monday and threw across his body in the first inning. Alan Trejo is at the keystone and is batting seventh against Brewers left-hander Wade Miley on Tuesday. The 26-year-old should be able to avoid an injured list stint, but you never know with the oft-injured infielder. He's only managed 23 at-bats so far in 2023 and has managed just five hits (no homers) and two RBI in six games. Rodgers has not stolen a single base in 277 big-league games.

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) has been activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday prior to the club's series opener against the San Diego Padres. Rodgers has yet to appear in a big-league contest this season due to a shoulder injury suffered in spring training. The ailment was potentially season-ending at the time but Rodgers has returned ahead of schedule after raking in five games for Triple-A Albuquerque. The 26-year-old hit .350 with one homer and a .981 OPS across 21 plate appearances at the minors' highest level and will make his season debut out of the five-hole as the designated hitter against Padres right-hander Seth Lugo on Monday night.

  • Brendan Rodgers Goes 2-For-4 During Rehab Game

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) had an impressive day at the plate Thursday during his rehab game with Triple-A Albuquerque, going 2-for-4 with a double. He's now slashing .417/.417/.583 over three games with Albuquerque. The 26-year-old Rodgers was injured during spring training and required shoulder surgery that looked like it could end his season. However, the four-year veteran has a chance to return to the big league club in August. Across 137 contests last season, Rodgers slashed .266/.325/.408 with 13 homers, 72 runs, and 63 RBI, steady production in any format.

  • Brendan Rodgers Scheduled To Begin Rehab Assignment On Monday

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) is scheduled to start his rehab assignment with High-A Spokane on Monday, according to beat writer Patrick Saunders. The 26-year-old has been out all season while recovering from shoulder surgery that he underwent back in March. The procedure had the potential to end his season but it looks like he's got a real shot to return to the Rockies at some point in August if all goes well. Rodgers slashed .266/.325/.408 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI over 527 at-bats last season with Colorado.

  • Brendan Rodgers Takes Part In Batting Practice

    Headshot for Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) took part in batting practice Saturday. In spring training, he had surgery to fix the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. The 26-year-old began some baseball activities in mid-June and is on target to return from the injured list in August. He slashed .266/.325/.408 with 13 home runs, 63 RBI, and 72 runs scored across 581 plate appearances in 2022. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot can stash Rodgers for now but shouldn't expect the former first-rounder to return to action until later in the season.
