  • Blue Jays Place Bo Bichette On Injured List

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a right-calf strain and recalled rookie outfielder Addison Barger from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Bichette missed the final four games of the first half of the season due to a calf injury and then strained his right calf in the second-half opener on Friday night against the Detroit Tigers. There's a good chance now that the 26-year-old will miss more than the 10 days on the injured list, and he's unlikely to be dealt before the July 30 trade deadline as well. Leo Jimenez replaced Bichette on Friday night at the 6 and will likely become the team's top option at the position moving forward. Bichette shouldn't be outrighted dropped in fantasy leagues, but he's been one of the most disappointing players in all of baseball this year, hitting just .223/.276/.321 with four homers, 30 RBI and five steals in 305 at-bats after making his second All-Star appearance in 2023.

Bo Bichette exited tonight's game after six innings. The Blue Jays shortstop came up limping out of the batter's box after hitting a line drive to right field. • Bo Bichette Comes Up Limping, Leaves Game Early

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette left Friday night's game early after coming up limping during a lineout in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was replaced by Leo Jimenez in the top of the seventh. Bichette was seen grabbing at his right leg as he ran down the first base line, a sign that it may be related to his recent right calf strain that forced him to miss the final four games before the All-Star break. The team has not stated anything else in regards to Bichette's injury but a clearer picture on Bichette's health should be announced by the team after they conclude their game against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Fantasy managers will certainly be holding their breath on the 26-year-old's status, especially since he's already been forced to miss time. Should Bichette be out for a lengthy absence fantasy managers should expect Jimenez to continue to get starts. Jimenez has eight hits in 22 AB during the 2024 season for a .936 OPS and would be a suitable replacement in lineups.

  • Bo Bichette Returns To Kick Off The Second Half

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) is back at shortstop and is hitting fifth in the batting order on Friday in the first game of the second half of the season versus the visiting Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty. Fantasy managers have to be happy to see Bichette back in action after he missed the final four games of the first half due to a right-calf strain. After a terrible first half, hopefully the 26-year-old will be able to turn things around in the second half, although it will be a tough first matchup in his return. Bichette does have a .400 average with a .900 OPS against Flaherty in his career, but only in five at-bats. The former second-round pick in 2016 was one of the biggest disappointments in the first half for fantasy managers, hitting just .222/.275/.321 with four homers, 30 RBI and five stolen bases in 302 at-bats.

  • Bo Bichette Remains Out Against Diamondbacks

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) remains out of the starting lineup for a series opener against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Rookie Leo Jimenez will take over at shortstop again and bat ninth for Toronto against Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson. Bichette is officially dealing with a fascia strain in his right calf that he suffered on Wednesday and will miss his second straight game. The 26-year-old went to the injured list earlier this year with an injury to the same calf, so with the All-Star break coming next week, it wouldn't be a surprise if he sat out the rest of the weekend. In addition to the calf injury, Bichette has been one of the biggest disappointments in all of baseball in 2024. Jimenez will be playing in just his sixth major-league game on Friday, although he's gone 5-for-14 (.357) with a double and RBI in his first five games.

  • Bo Bichette Out Of The Lineup On Thursday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) is out of the team's starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the hosting San Francisco Giants after being pulled from Wednesday's contest early with right-calf soreness. Bichette's frustrating 2024 season continues. The Blue Jays are on the verge of being sellers at this year's trade deadline, but the fact that the 26-year-old is now hurt and has been slumping all season could mean that Toronto will hang onto him and trade him in the offseason or next summer. His calf injury doesn't appear to be very serious, but it's something to watch after he landed on the injured list back in June with a strain of the same calf muscle. With Bichette out in San Fran, Leo Jimenez will man the 6 and bat in the nine-hole for the Jays against Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks.UPDATE: Bichette has a right-calf fascia strain, according to manager John Schneider. The team is considering it day-to-day for now, but a player will likely join them for the weekend series in Arizona just in case.

  • Bo Bichette Removed With Calf Soreness

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) was removed from Wednesday's game against the hosting San Francisco Giants with right calf soreness, and Leo Jimenez entered the contest for him in the fourth inning. Bichette dealt with an issue to the same calf in mid-June and missed 10 days on the injured list. There was no apparent moment where the injury occurred on Wednesday, however, so there should be at least some optimism that it's not a significant problem. Bichette struck out in his only plate appearance of the night, dropping his average on the season to .222 and OPS to .596 with just four home runs, 30 RBI, 29 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 302 at-bats. Fantasy managers should deem the scuffling 26-year-old infielder day-to-day until more information becomes available ahead of Thursday's clash with the Giants.

  • Bo Bichette Back In Action Against Mariners

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (forearm) is back at shortstop and is batting second on Friday against the hosting Seattle Mariners and right-hander Luis Castillo. The Mariners held Bichette out of Thursday's series finale against the Houston Astros as a precaution after he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday. The 26-year-old will return after missing just one game. Fantasy managers are hoping that the former second-rounder in 2016 out of a Florida high school can finally put together a good stretch of at-bats as we near the All-Star break in mid-July. It's been a highly disappointing 2024 campaign for the All-Star, as he enters Friday's action with a .229/.282/.331 slash line, only four home runs, 29 RBI, four steals and 28 runs scored in 284 at-bats. Bichette has also hit just .222 with an RBI in nine career at-bats versus Castillo.

  • Bo Bichette Scratched In Series Finale

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (forearm) has been scratched from Thursday's lineup against the visiting Houston Astros. Rookie Leo Jimenez will make the start at shortstop in Bichette's place and bat eighth against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Rookie Spencer Horwitz will draw into the lineup at second base and bat fifth. Bichette is dealing with a right-forearm contusion after being hit by a pitch in Wednesday's contest versus Houston. The 26-year-old is a little sore, but it's not a serious injury and he should be considered day-to-day. There's a good chance he'll be back in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners. This will be Jimenez's first action in the big leagues since being called up earlier this week.

  • Bo Bichette A Poor Fit For The Dodgers

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette's defensive shortcomings make him a poor fit for the Los Angles Dodgers in a trade this summer. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, going back to his days of running the Tampa Bay Rays, is a stickler for defense. Rival evaluators say the 26-year-old Bichette can get careless at shortstop, rushing at times. He's also been on the injured list with leg injuries three times in the last year, perhaps contributing to his diminished range. Bichette entered Sunday ranked 23rd among shortstops in outs above average and 28th in defensive runs saved. In addition to his poor defense, Bichette's .623 OPS was the eighth-lowest in the majors. A change of scenery could be good for him, but as of now, it's looking more likely that he'll stay in Toronto until maybe next summer.

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette Expected To Stick Around A While Longer

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays want to make one last run with first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette, so they should both be staying around past this summer's trade deadline until at least this winter, if not next summer. However, with their season already on the brink, they plan to place left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, catcher Danny Jansen, reliever Yimi Garcia, designated hitter Justin Turner and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the trade block. After the Blue Jays' 3-1 loss on Canada Day on Monday to the Houston Astros, Toronto is currently in dead last in the American League East while sitting eight games out of the last wild-card spot. Guerrero has been hot of late but is also dealing with a finger injury he picked up on Sunday, while Bichette has just not been able to get it going consistently on offense in 2024.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. This appears to be a regular rest day for Bichette who has started four straight games since returning from the injured list. During that time, Bichette went 3-for-17 with three walks and a double. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will shift over to shortstop and bat leadoff versus right-hander Gerrit Cole on Sunday.

  • Bo Bichette Activated And Starting On Tuesday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays activated shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Steward Berroa to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. It ended up being a minimal stay on the injured list for Bichette, who was dealing with a minor calf injury. The 26-year-old All-Star is back at shortstop and is batting leadoff for the team on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Brayan Bello at Fenway Park. Despite the fact that Bichette hasn't looked like himself this year, fantasy managers in single-year leagues will want to insert him into their starting lineups. He's hit .417 with a 1.000 OPS and an RBI in 12 career at-bats versus Bello. In 52 plate appearances in June before his injury, Bichette had gone 10-for-49 (.204) with four doubles and three RBI in 13 games.

  • Bo Bichette On Track To Return Tuesday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) ran the bases, did some hitting and also did some fielding on Monday and is on pace to return from the injured list on Monday. Bichette's calf injury was never all that serious, but the Blue Jays opted to play it safe with one of their best players and put him on the IL. The 26-year-old should be back in Toronto's lineup on Tuesday and will be hoping to turn things around at the plate after what has so far been a rough season offensively. In his absence, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been serving as the team's starter at the 6 with Bichette on the shelf. The former second-round pick in 2016 will return to a .237/.286/.342 slash line with just four home runs, 28 RBI, four steals and 22 runs scored in 257 at-bats. Bichette had gone 10-for-49 (.204) with no no homers and three RBI in 13 games in June before going on the IL.

  • Bo Bichette Targeting Return Tuesday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) took ground balls, hit in batting cages, and ran the bases in Cleveland on Friday ahead of the series opener against the hosting Guardians. Bichette will continue ramping up his activity through the weekend, and he's targeting a return from the injured when first eligible ahead of Tuesday's contest against the division-rival Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The 26-year-old two-time All-Star infielder is working his way back from a strained right calf, and it doesn't look as if he'll need any kind of abbreviated minor-league rehab assignment before re-entering Toronto's lineup. Bichette has scuffled at the plate for most of the season, but he's a hitting machine when he's locked in, and he was batting an encouraging .286 (36-for-126) with three home runs, eight doubles, 16 RBI, and one stolen base over his last 32 outings before going on the IL.

  • Bo Bichette Placed On 10-Day Injured List Tuesday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right-calf strain and recalled infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Bichette has been sidelined with the injury since last Friday and will now miss additional time. It's unclear if he'll be able to return from the 10-day IL when he's eligible. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting again at the 6 on Tuesday and has been filling in at shortstop since Bichette's injury, but Martinez could also get some run at the position now that he's up in the big leagues. The 26-year-old Bichette has been one of the biggest disappointments for the Blue Jays in 2024. After making the All-Star team for the first time in his career last year, he's hitting .237 (61-for-257) with four homers and four stolen bases in 66 games. Despite the disappointment, keep him stashed in all leagues.

  • Bo Bichette Still Out Of The Lineup On Monday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) remains out of the starting lineup for the third straight game for Monday's series opener against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Bichette is dealing with a right-calf injury that isn't believed to be serious, but the Jays aren't rushing the struggling shortstop back into the fold. The 26-year-old All-Star felt better, so perhaps he'll be able to return to the lineup for the second game of the series on Tuesday. The underlying numbers show that Bichette has been a bit unlucky so far in 2024, but his fantasy managers haven't been happy with his .237/.286/.342 slash line on the year with only four home runs, 28 RBI, four stolen bases and 22 runs scored in his 257 at-bats. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is making another start at the 6 on Monday and is batting seventh against Red Sox right-hander Nick Pivetta.

  • Bo Bichette Out Again Sunday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) remains out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians for the second straight day due to right-calf soreness. It's not a serious injury for Bichette, but the Blue Jays want to rest the 26-year-old for at least a few days. Fantasy managers will need to check back to see if he's available for Monday's series opener against the visiting Boston Red Sox. The two-time All-Star has struggled to this point in 2024, hitting .237 (61-for-257) with four home runs, 28 RBI and four stolen bases in 66 games played. The underlying numbers show that Bichette should eventually turn things around if he's healthy, but fantasy managers are still waiting for that to happen. With Bichette sitting again Sunday, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will draw the start at the 6 and will hit eighth against Guardians right-hander Ben Lively.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) is dealing with a bit of right-calf soreness, according to manager John Schneider, and is out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians. The Blue Jays will keep an eye on how Bichette feels on Saturday and into Sunday. In addition to now being dinged up, Bichette has hit .204 (10-for-49) with no homers, four doubles, three RBI and 10 strikeouts in 13 games so far in June. Along with most of the Blue Jays hitters, he's disappointed in 2024 to the tune of a .237/.286/.342 slash line in 257 at-bats with only four homers, 28 RBI and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. With Bichette resting his calf on Saturday, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at short and batting eighth against Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco. He has never faced Carrasco in his career.

  • Bo Bichette Hits Fourth Homer Of Season Monday

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette made his one hit count in Monday's 5-1 win over the White Sox, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout. Bichette drilled a fourth-inning Nick Nastrini fastball over the center-field wall for his fourth HR of the season. The 26-year-old has had an uncharacteristically underwhelming season with the bat so far, slashing just .247/.297/.366 with 23 RBI. The good news is that he is running more overall and has picked things up in May with an improved .291/.330/.442 slash line. The Blue Jays have started slowly as a team offensively, but it looks like Bichette has started to turn the corner.

  • Bo Bichette Singles Three Times In 9-1 Win

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette may finally be showing signs of breaking out of his early season funk at the plate for the Blue Jays. In the team's 9-1 victory over the Tigers in Detroit on Thursday, he went 3-for-5 with three singles, an RBI and a run scored to raise his season average to .243 (43-for-177) with three home runs, 20 RBI, four stolen bases and 16 runs scored in 46 games played. He's now hitting .290 (20-for-69) with two homers, nine RBI and a stolen base in 18 games in the month of May. Since May 13, he's gone 14-for-34 (.412) with a homer, four doubles, seven RBI and a steal in 37 plate appearances. The 26-year-old two-time All-Star was dropped from the top of the batting order amid his struggles, but that could change if he continues to swing the bat well. His fantasy managers will be hoping he can keep it up to conclude the weekend series in Motown.

  • Blue Jays Considering Trading Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

One American League executive thinks it's possible that the Toronto Blue Jays could move one or both of shortstop Bo Bichette and first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this summer given the team's 21-25 start and the competitive state of the AL East. "I don't think they're opposed to it," the executive said. "They've talked to teams about it. The asks were ridiculous, but I think they're going to try to retool a lot, and using those guys to get pieces may be the way to do it." Both players are scheduled to reach free agency after the 2025 season, so any acquiring team would have them for the rest of this year and another full season. Bichette, a two-time All-Star, has had a sluggish start with a .230 average, only two homers and 16 RBI in 43 games. Guerrero is hitting .286 but with only four homers and 21 RBI in 45 games.

  • Bo Bichette Dropped To Sixth In Batting Order

    Headshot for Bo Bichette

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has been dropped to sixth in the batting order for Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. It's the lowest spot in the batting order that Bichette has hit since August of 2022. The 26-year-old All-Star is hitting just .189/.246/.268 on the year with a homer, 11 RBI, three stolen bases, nine walks and 22 strikeouts in 138 plate appearances over 33 games. Since April 24, Bichette has gone 3-for-40 (.075) with an RBI and eight strikeouts in 11 games. He's really in an early season funk right now and should be avoided in DFS lineups until he breaks out of it. With the move down the lineup for Bichette, outfielder Daulton Varsho is hitting in the two-hole for Toronto on Wednesday. Bichette is hitting .429 in seven career at-bats against Nola with a homer and two RBI, so perhaps he can get going in a tough matchup.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is getting a day off on Monday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. With Bichette getting a blow, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth against Royals right-hander Jonathan Bowlan. Rookie Addison Barger will play third base and bat in the nine-hole for Toronto. It's a good time for the 26-year-old Bichette to take a day off, as he has just one hit in 18 at-bats in his last five games to drop his season slash line to .210/.263/.305 with just one home run and 10 RBI in 105 at-bats. Kiner-Falefa will be a pretty mediocre, low-upside DFS option on Monday against the Royals. The 29-year-old has never faced Bowlan and is hitting .240 (18-for-75) on the year with a homer, six RBI and two stolen bases.
