Dylan Cease's Velocity On The Rise
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease topped out at 95 mph in his last Cactus League appearance, but he was sitting at 95-97 mph in his first inning of work on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. His slider hasn't been very sharp, though, which led to him giving up two runs in his first inning of work. The 27-year-old right-hander has now allowed 11 hits and 13 runs (12 earned) while walking eight and striking out six in three Cactus League starts. He was much better last year with a 2.20 ERA over 184 innings, so fantasy managers should take his spring results with a grain of salt. With better command, Cease could once again be one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2023.

The Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Dylan Cease avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $5.7 million deal. Cease finished up his fourth season with the White Sox with a 14-8 record, career-low 2.20 ERA (3.10 FIP), 1.11 WHIP and 30.4 percent strikeout rate in a career-high 184 innings over 32 starts. The 27-year-old was among the league's elite starting pitchers last season, but he did walk a league-high 78 batters along the way. Cease finished up his regular season with quality starts in five of his last six outings and struck out a career-high 227 batters (one more than 2021). Needless to say, he'll be a pretty popular high-end fantasy starter in drafts this spring.
