  • Luis Rengifo Heads Back To The Bench

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo is back on the bench ahead of Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox. The 27-year-old has started only two of the first seven games for the Halos this season. It's obvious that manager Ron Washington doesn't consider Rengifo an everyday player right now. It'll likely take an injury to Anthony Rendon for Rengifo to get more playing time. At the moment, Rengifo appears to be stuck in a platoon spot.

  • Luis Rengifo Leaves With Light-Headedness On Wednesday

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (illness) was removed from Wednesday's win over the Miami Marlins early after feeling light-headed. Before leaving the contest, Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout out of the leadoff spot. Rookie first baseman Nolan Schanuel entered in place of Rengifo, who was likely dealing with dehydration. The good news for Rengifo is that the Angels have a day off on Thursday before returning home on Friday to face the visiting Boston Red Sox for a three-game series this weekend. Hopefully, the off day will allow Rengifo to come into Friday's game feeling 100 percent. However, Wednesday's start was only his second on the season with Anthony Rendon playing third and Brandon Drury starting at second most of the time in the early going.

  • Luis Rengifo Leading Off Against Marlins

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

After sitting out Tuesdays' victory, Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo is starting at third base and batting leadoff on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins and left-hander A.J. Puk. With Rengifo getting the start at the hot corner, Anthony Rendon is getting the day off in Miami. Brandon Drury is at second base and batting fifth in the order. The 27-year-old switch-hitting Rengifo has only started two of the team's first six games on the year and has gone 2-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and a strikeout in three games played. Unless he starts to play more regularly for the Halos, Rengifo probably isn't worth a roster spot in deep-mixed leagues for infield depth. Rengifo is 0-for-3 in his career against Puk.

  • Luis Rengifo Out Of The Lineup On Tuesday

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo is out of the lineup on Tuesday. The Angels are on the road to play the second game of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins but will be without the switch-hitting second baseman as LA is starting Brandon Drury there instead. Rengifo has played in three of the four games for the Angels and is slashing .286/.286/429, but is without an RBI.

  • Luis Rengifo, Nolan Schanuel Could Both Play Saturday

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter in the team's Cactus League game on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. Meanwhile, first baseman Nolan Schanuel (back) could also return to the lineup. Rengifo will return to spring action after leaving Tuesday's contest with a left-hamstring injury. Schanuel was scratched from Monday's Cactus League game due to back tightness. Both Rengifo and Schanuel should be ready for Opening Day next Thursday. Rengifo is expected to be the team's regular season baseman, while the 22-year-old Schanuel is projected to be the Angels' primary first baseman after impressing in his first MLB call-up after being taken 12th overall in last year's draft. Rengifo and Schanuel don't have a ton of fantasy upside in mixed leagues.

  • Luis Rengifo Leaves Tuesday's Game Early

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo (hamstring) left the team's Cactus League game in the first inning on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds with a trainer with what looked to be a hamstring injury after running to first base. The severity of Rengifo's injury is unknown at this time, but we'll provide any updates as they come along. With the start of the regular season just nine days away, the 27-year-old could be in danger of missing the start of the regular season. When healthy, Rengifo is penciled in to be the Halos' primary second baseman, although his modest power and speed doesn't give him much upside for fantasy managers competing in mixed leagues. If Rengifo is forced to miss time to open up the year, Michael Stefanic figures to be the first man up to benefit from playing time at the keystone in Anaheim.

  • Luis Rengifo Expected To Make Spring Debut Wednesday

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (hamstring) is expected to make his spring training debut in the team's Cactus League lineup on Wednesday and get a couple of at-bats. Rengifo is just now making his Cactus League debut after dealing with a hamstring injury in recent weeks in camp. The 27-year-old is expected to be ready by Opening Day on March 28, though, as long as he doesn't suffer any sort of setback with his leg. Rengifo was one of the team's most productive offensive players last year with 16 home runs in 126 games, and he should open the year as the Halos' starter at the keystone. He doesn't have a ton of power or speed, though, which merely makes him middle-infield depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

  • Luis Rengifo Working Out Wednesday

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (hamstring) is doing some hitting and defensive drills in camp on Wednesday. The Angels are easing Rengifo back into action at spring training after he dealt with some left-hamstring tightness. The 27-year-old still has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day at the end of March, unless he suffers another setback when he starts playing in Cactus League games. Rengifo is most useful to the Angels for his ability to play multiple positions, but when healthy, he's expected to see most of his playing time at the keystone in Anaheim. While he had a solid season in 2023, Rengifo doesn't stand out at all for power or speed, making him merely a versatile depth option for fantasy managers in deep mixed leagues.

  • Luis Rengifo Dealing With Hamstring Issue

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo (hamstring) is dealing with a left-hamstring issue at camp and took himself out of workouts at spring training on Friday. He is going to be off his feet for a few days, but manager Ron Washington was adamant that Rengifo will be ready for Opening Day in late March. When healthy, the 26-year-old switch-hitter is expected to see the majority of playing time for the Halos at second base, and he should also be the club's leadoff hitter against left-handed pitchers. The Venezuelan infielder hit .264/.339/.444 with 16 home runs, 15 doubles, four triples, 51 RBI, six stolen bases and 55 runs scored in 126 games in 2023 before his season was cut short due to a torn left biceps in September. None of Rengifo's skills really stand out for fantasy managers, but he can be an asset as depth in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues as an everyday player for the Angels.

  • Luis Rengifo Says He's Fully Healthy

    Headshot for Luis Rengifo

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (biceps) told Rhett Bollinger of that he is fully healthy after recovering from surgery to address his torn left biceps tendon. The injury kept him sidelined for most of September and October of last season, though he still managed to play while slashing .264/.339/.444 with a 114 wRC+. The Angels continue to seek reinforcements on the offensive side, and Rengifo offers just that. Prospective fantasy managers will get a glimpse into his outlook when the Angels kick off their Spring Training games this weekend.
