  • Danny Jansen Has Cast Removed, Set For Mobility Work

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (finger) is out of a cast after visiting with his surgeon on Wednesday, although he's now in a splint. His surgery to set and stabilize the bone in his finger has been successful and he can now start doing mobility work with his fingers. However, there's no timeline set for his return just yet. The 28-year-old backstop has been out with a right middle-finger fracture that he suffered when he was hit by a foul ball on Sept. 1. At this point in the season with less than 10 games remaining in the regular season, if Jansen ends up returning at all, it will most likely be if the Blue Jays make it to the postseason as an American League wild-card team. Alejandro Kirk will continue to serve as the team's primary catcher until Jansen is able to return.

  • Danny Jansen Undergoes Finger Surgery

    Headshot for Tyler Heineman

Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen underwent surgery yesterday to address his fractured right middle finger, the team announced (relayed by Scott Mitchell of TSN). He’s out for the rest of the regular season, though the club is leaving open the possibility for a return in the postseason if they qualify. Jansen broke his finger last week…

  • Danny Jansen Placed On 10-Day Injured List

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. This doesn't comes as a surprise after Jansen fractured his finger when he took a ball off his hand during Friday's game. The team hasn't given a timetable for his return to the field. There is a chance that Jansen is done for the season, but the team should offer a timetable at some point. Tyler Heineman has been recalled to take the spot on the active roster. He won't offer much fantasy value with Alejandro Kirk getting a majority of the playing time behind the plate.

  • Danny Jansen Fractures Finger On Friday

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (finger) suffered a fractured finger in Friday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The 28-year-old was hit in the right hand by a foul tip in the sixth inning, finishing the frame behind the plate before he exited ahead of his at-bat in the seventh. He went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI before departing. Jansen missed a few games after being hit on the same hand by a pitch earlier in August, but he's likely facing a more significant absence with this injury. Toronto will re-evaluate the backstop on Saturday, but fantasy managers likely shouldn't expect Jansen back for several weeks. 2023 disappointment Alejandro Kirk will get all the action he can handle behind the dish while Jansen, who is hitting .228 with 17 homers, 53 RBI, and a .786 OPS in 268 at-bats, is on the shelf.

  • Danny Jansen Returns On Sunday

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) is back in action on Sunday against the visiting Chicago Cubs and right-hander Jameson Taillon, doing the catching and batting seventh in the order. Jansen will return after missing the last two games due to a bruised right hand that he suffered earlier this week when he was hit by a pitch on his hand. The 28-year-old has some pop at the weak catcher position in fantasy with 15 home runs, but he's batting just .218 (52-for-239) on the season. Jansen has also gotten off to a tough start in August with just three hits in 23 at-bats (.130) with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in seven starts.

  • Danny Jansen Still Out Saturday

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) remains out of the team's starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Alejandro Kirk will make another start behind the plate and will hit sixth in the batting order against Cubs left-hander Justin Steele. Jansen was hit by a pitch on his hand on Thursday in a contest against the Cleveland Guardians, and he'll be sitting out his second straight game. The good news is the 28-year-old backstop is day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. Hopefully Jansen will be able to return on Sunday. Jansen has already matched his career-high of 15 home runs from a season ago and has driven in a career-high 49 runs, but he's batting only .218 (52-for-239).

  • Danny Jansen Not Ready To Return

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) is out of action on Friday as the team takes on the visiting Chicago Cubs. Jansen was hit in the hand by a pitch on Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians and had to leave the contest early, but he's considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. The 28-year-old backstop was officially diagnosed with a right-hand contusion, so he'll have a chance to return as early as Saturday. Alejandro Kirk will do the catching on Friday and bat eighth against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. Jansen provides fantasy managers with more power (15 home runs, 49 RBI) than Kirk, but he's batting just .218 (52-for-239) with a weak .289 on-base percentage on the year.

  • Danny Jansen Has Hand Contusion

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) was taken out of Thursday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians due to a right-hand contusion. Jansen was hit on the right hand by a pitch, but X-rays thankfully came back negative, so we can consider him day-to-day heading into Friday's series opener against the Chicago Cubs. We'd expect to see Jansen get at least one day to rest up, so Alejandro Kirk will probably do the catching on Friday. The 28-year-old Jansen entered Thursday's action with just a .218 batting average (52-for-238), but his 15 home runs at the weak catcher position are useful as he shares time behind the dish for Toronto.

  • Danny Jansen Exits After Hit By Pitch

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (wrist) left Thursday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians after getting hit by a pitch in the right wrist area. Before leaving, Jansen was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored before being replaced behind the plate by Alejandro Kirk. Jansen will likely undergo X-rays to check for any broken bones in his wrist, but for now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. Even if Jansen avoids a serious injury, don't be surprised if he's held out of Friday's lineup against the visiting Chicago Cubs. The 28-year-old backstop entered Thursday's action hitting just .218 (52-for-238) on the season but with 15 home runs, 49 RBI and 30 runs scored in 75 games played.

  • Danny Jansen Absent From The Lineup Again With Wrist Issue

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (wrist) is once again not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox due to a sore wrist. Jansen was a late scratch before Saturday's game as well and apparently didn't feel ready to play on Sunday. Alejandro Kirk is starting at catcher in place of Jansen against Boston. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue for Jansen but the Blue Jays should provide an update on him following the conclusion of Sunday's game.

  • Danny Jansen Scratched On Saturday

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (wrist) has been scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox. It sounds like Jansen will sit this game out due to right wrist inflammation. Hopefully, this is a minor issue that won't force Jansen to the injured list. In the meantime, Alejandro Kirk will serve as the catcher and bat fifth versus right-hander John Schreiber on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Jansen out.

  • Danny Jansen Missing From Tuesday's Lineup

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays backstop Danny Jansen (forearm) is absent from Tuesday's lineup to take on lefty Julio Urias and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It comes two days after the former prospect left Sunday's contest after a pitch hit his forearm. Jansen sat out Monday as well, and more info on the severity should be announced soon. The 28-year-old hasn't offered much in the batting average department, hitting .226, but has gone deep 12 times with 41 RBI across 63 games. With Jansen out, fantasy managers can expect Alejandro Kirk to keep getting most of the reps behind the plate. He's hitting .251 with a .661 OPS but owns a career .271/.355/.401 slash line with 27 bombs across 283 games.

  • Danny Jansen Exits Early On Sunday

    Headshot for Danny Jansen

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (forearm) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Jansen was hit by a pitch on the forearm during the fifth inning of Sunday's contest. He remained in the game for a few innings before Alejandro Kirk batted for him in the seventh inning. Jansen underwent X-rays which came back negative for any fractures. The team is calling the injury a left forearm contusion. Fantasy managers should consider Jansen as day-to-day, so he should avoid a trip to the injured list.
