  • Shohei Ohtani Gets Rare Off Day

Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics. This will be a rare off day for the two-way superstar. Max Stassi will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth against lefty Cole Irvin. Fantasy managers can look elsewhere for a streaming option for Monday. The expectation is that Ohtani will be back after his rest day here.

  • Shohei Ohtani Was Never Close To Being Traded

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani was "never close" to being traded prior to last week's deadline, per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports MLB. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise but there were rumors that the Angels were fielding offers for the megastar before the trade deadline last week. Rosenthal said that he spoke with several teams that inquired about Ohtani and they told him that the asking price for the 28-year-old two-way player was incredibly high. He also added that Ohtani probably would have fetched more of a return than the Nationals received when they moved All-Star Juan Soto to the Padres last week. Ohtani is set to become a free agent in 2024 and only time will tell if the Angels decide to trade him or not in between now and then.

  • Shohei Ohtani Will Serve As DH Thursday

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (forearm) had a "mild cramp in his forearm" on Wednesday, according to manager Phil Nevin. However, Ohtani will serve as the designated hitter on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics, and the injury isn't considered serious. The 28-year-old two-way start allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings against the A's on Wednesday, but he didn't appear to suffer the injury while pitching. There's a chance the Angels could change their minds before game time on Thursday, but all signs point to this being nothing serious for Ohtani. If he's indeed in the starting lineup on Thursday, he needs to be in all fantasy starting lineups.

  • Angels Won't Trade Shohei Ohtani

The New York Yankees were among a few teams that made serious offers for Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, but there is now no chance the Angels will part with him after listening to offers. The San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox are among other teams known to have tried for Ohtani in recent days. It now appears interested teams have moved on with the understanding the Angels are keeping the versatile megastar. Angels owner Arte Moreno is believed to be unwilling to part with Ohtani, especially with Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon currently injured. Ohtani has another year remaining before he'll be eligible for free agency, so perhaps they entertain more serious trade offers for the Japanese star next year.

  • Shohei Ohtani Strikes Out 11 In Loss

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani struck out 11 batters in a losing effort on Thursday as his club fell to the Rangers 2-0. The right-hander worked six innings while allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks, tossing 98 pitches in the contest. Ohtani worked out of a jam in the first inning when he gave up three consecutive singles to open up the ballgame, but went on to strike out the next three batters to get out of the frame unscathed. He went on to allow a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI double off the bat of Corey Seager in the fifth for the only scoring of the game. Ohtani didn't help out his cause by going 0-for-4 at the dish in what was another quiet outing from the Halo's offense. The 28-year-old will sport a 2.81 ERA and 1.02 WHIP into his next contest versus the Athletics next week.

  • Trade For Shohei Ohtani Unlikely

Teams are calling regarding a potential trade for Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani, and while a trade is seen as very unlikely, the Angels are for perhaps the first time not hanging up the phone. The Angels are listening on everyone following their recent collapse, but it doesn't mean Ohtani or outfielder Mike Trout, who has a no-trade clause, will be moved. A trade involving Ohtani might be only slightly more likely than Trout. The Angels' most likely trade pieces this summer are starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, closer Raisel Iglesias and relievers Ryan Tepera and Aaron Loup. Sources say that it would take something eye-popping for the Angels to even seriously consider trading Ohtani, last year's American League MVP.

  • Mets Reportedly Check On Availability Of Shohei Ohtani

The New York Mets reportedly contacted the Los Angeles Angles on a potential trade for two-way star player Shohei Ohtani. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Mets general manager, Billy Eppler has contacted the Angels to check on the availability of Ohtani. Bowden doesn't believe the Angels will deal with the two-way star. "However, a team that misses out on Juan Soto could call the Angels, and their package of four or five elite-to-good prospects and young major leaguers might be enough for the Angels to make the deal," per Bowden. The 28-year-old will be a free agent after next season and is not expected to re-sign with the Angels. Ohtani is having a terrific season overall, slashing .256/.346/.486 with 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 53 runs, and 10 stolen bases while posting a 2.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 134 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings. Stay tuned.

  • Shohei Ohtani Dealing With Bruised Knee

Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin said that two-way star Shohei Ohtani (knee) has a bruise above his knee after fouling a ball off himself on Monday against the Kansas City Royals. Ohtani said he's OK to play on Tuesday, but the Angels will check with him again before the game. The Angels surely won't take any chances with one of the best players in the game, both on the mound and as a hitter, so don't be surprised if he's not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 28-year-old Japanese sensation went 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout on Monday and is hitting .256/.346/.486 with an .831 OPS, 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 53 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 399 plate appearances in 2022.

  • Shohei Ohtani Unlikely To Be Traded

The Los Angeles Angels have no plans to trade starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani before the August 2nd trade deadline, according to Jon Morosi. Even with growing speculation over the past few weeks, this isn't all that surprising. The two-way superstar is a unicorn, and it's probably a good idea to keep those around when you have them. He's slashed .256/.348/.482 this season while knocking 19 homers and swiping 10 bases. Oh, he's also pitched to a 9-5 record with a 2.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 134 strikeouts over 93 innings pitched. Not bad.

  • Shohei Ohtani Doesn't Plan To Pitch In All-Star Game

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani, who will be hitting leadoff for the American League as the designated hitter in Tuesday's All-Star game at Dodger Stadium, said he doesn't plan to pitch in the game. After winning AL MVP last year while being dominant on the mound and with the bat, the 28-year-old Japanese star has continued to dazzle as a two-way player, but we won't be seeing him throw high-90s cheddar on the mound in the Midsummer Classic. He was dominant in his last start before the break, giving up just one run with 12 strikeouts in six innings in a win over the Houston Astros. Ohtani has been outstanding as a pitcher again in 2022, going 9-4 with a 2.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 123 strikeouts and 22 walks in 87 innings over 15 starts.

  • Shohei Ohtani Hitting Leadoff For American League

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will bat leadoff for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. It's unclear if the two-way Japanese star will appear out of the bullpen on the mound following Tampa Bay Rays starter Shane McClanahan. Following Ohtani in the batting order will be New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge, Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Yankees left fielder Giancarlo Stanton, Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton, Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez and Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk.

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani continued to dazzle on the mound by earning his ninth win of the season over the Houston Astros in the team's 7-1 win on Wednesday night. Ohtani allowed an earned run on four hits while striking out 12 and walking two in six innings of work. The two-way Japanese star also went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, a run scored and a walk as a hitter. In the last 34 days, Ohtani has a 0.45 ERA, 58 strikeouts and 11 walks in 39 2/3 innings pitched, and he's also slashing .287/.393/.604 with eight home runs in 29 games. The 28-year-old continues to impress as a two-way player and remains a must-start, whether he's on the mound or at the plate.

  • Shohei Ohtani Strikes Out 10 In Win Over Fish

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani continued to show his dominance on the mound in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins. The Japanese two-way star allowed an unearned run on two hits while walking three and striking out 10 in seven innings for his eighth win of the season. Ohtani also went 1-for-4 at the plate as the designated hitter with a run, two RBI and a stolen base. The 28-year-old right-hander has won five straight starts and has reached double-digit strikeouts in three straight starts to lower his season line to a 2.44 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 111 strikeouts and just 20 walks in 81 innings. Ohtani has been nearly untouchable on the mound in the last month, and he remains a must-start each time he's on the mound.

  • Shohei Ohtani Fans 11 White Sox Hitters

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani had a dominant outing against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while recording 11 strikeouts. This was his fifth double-digit strikeout game of the year. Ohtani was simply fantastic on the mound throughout June. He closed out the month with three straight scoreless outings and he had a month-long ERA of just 1.52. The 27-year-old currently has a 33% strikeout rate on the year, which ranks in the 93rd percentile of the league and is a significant increase from last year's 29.3% strikeout rate.

  • Shohei Ohtani Hitless Over Last Three Games

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani had a rough weekend at the plate. He went 2-for-4 in the first game of the team's four-game set against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, then went on to go 0-for-13 with four strikeouts over the final three games of the series. Ohtani's hitting production has been down a decent amount from his breakout 2021 campaign. Over 66 games, he's slashing .250/.322/.461 with 13 home runs, seven stolen bases, 37 RBI and 42 runs. He's on a 162-game pace of about 32 homers and 17 stolen bases after tallying 46 home runs and 26 steals in 2021. His slugging percentage is down from .592 last year to .461 this year. His average exit velocity is also down from 93.6 mph last year to 92.8 mph this year, but the latter clip still remains in the 95th percentile of the majors. The 27-year-old phenom should continue to deliver strong production across the board, even if he fails to replicate the gaudy numbers he put up last season.

Ohtani earned the win on Thursday and he is now 4-4 on the year with a 3.64 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a 31.7% strikeout rate. He'll make his next start next Thursday against the Seattle Mariners.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup on Friday, while designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (back) is on the bench against Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah. Ward is serving as the DH and hitting leadoff after entering the game as a pinch-hitter on Thursday. Ohtani left his start on the mound on Thursday due to back stiffness, and he should be considered day-to-day for now.
