Twins Land Pablo Lopez And Two Prospects
The Minnesota Twins acquired right-hander Pablo Lopez and prospects Jose Salas and Byron Chourio from the Miami Marlins on Friday in exchange for All-Star second baseman Luiz Arraez, according to sources. Lopez went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA (3.71 FIP), 1.17 WHIP and 23.6 percent strikeout rate in 180 innings over a career-high 32 starts in his fifth MLB season with the Marlins. The 26-year-old will be under Twins control for the next two seasons and heads to another favorite pitcher's park in a rather weak division as well. Neither Salas nor Chourio were listed on Miami's list of top-30 prospects, per MLB Pipeline. Salas is the more intriguing of the two. The 19-year-old switch-hitting shortstop only made it to High-A in 2022, but he could rise quickly in Minnesota's system.

Cardinals Could Be In The Mix For Pablo Lopez
The St. Louis Cardinals rank near the top of the list of teams that could benefit from a trade for Miami Marlins right-hander Pablo Lopez. Current Cardinals starters Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jack Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery will reach free agency after 2023, while Lopez is under team control for two more years and is only 26. St. Louis could have a surplus of outfielders in 2023, so players like Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill could be trade candidates. According to sources, the two teams have engaged in at least preliminary trade talks. Lopez recently signed a one-year, $5.45 million deal with the Fish to avoid salary arbitration after he went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA (3.71 FIP), 1.17 WHIP and 23.6% strikeout rate in a career-high 32 starts over 180 innings in 2022.

Pablo Lopez Reportedly Available Via Trade
According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Tuesday, Miami Marlins starting pitcher Pablo Lopez is reportedly available via trade. Heyman tweeted the following: "Biggest name hear available in trade so far is Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez. Fish need hitters! Came close to dealing him to Yankees at deadline in a Gleyber Torres deal." Lopez made 32 starts for the Marlins last season, pitching to a 3.75 ERA and a 3.71 FIP in 180 innings. Elsewhere, he logged 174 strikeouts in those 810 innings while surrendering just 53 walks and accumulating 10 pitcher wins.
