  • Gregory Santos To Begin Throwing Program Tuesday

    Headshot for Gregory Santos

Seattle Mariners right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) will begin his throwing program on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was acquired this offseason in a trade with the Chicago White Sox after he impressed in 60 appearances on the south side in his rookie campaign in 2023. Santos worked to a 3.39 ERA in his 66 1/3 innings of work but also posted a 2.65 FIP and allowed just two home runs on the season while posting a tiny 0.27 HR/9 clip. The Mariners have Andres Munoz and Matt Brash as the key late-inning arms at the back end of their bullpen, meaning Santos' chances at saves and holds could be limited. He is best left off the fantasy radar barring a notable injury to either Munoz or Brash.

  • Mariners Notes: Brash, Santos, Urias, Phillips

    Headshot for Matt Brash

The Mariners have shut relievers Matt Brash and Gregory Santos down from throwing for the time being, reports Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Neither the team nor Brash would get into specifics regarding his injury, though Divish notes that the M’s don’t believe it to be a serious issue. Brash simply told Divish that…

  • Gregory Santos To Ramp Up His Throwing Program

    Headshot for Gregory Santos

Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that relief pitcher Gregory Santos (lat) is progressing and will start ramping up his throwing program in the coming days at spring training. Santos reported right-lat soreness early in camp but could still be ready for Opening Day as long as he doesn't have a setback once he resumes throwing. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in a trade this offseason and is expected to serve in some sort of setup role for the M's in 2024 in his first year in Seattle. Unless you're in a really deep holds league, Santos probably shouldn't be on your fantasy radar. In 66 1/3 relief innings for Chicago last year, Santos had a respectable 3.39 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 66 strikeouts and 17 walks.

  • Gregory Santos A Bit Behind In Camp

    Headshot for Gregory Santos

Seattle Mariners right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) is a little bit behind the other pitchers in spring training due to a right-lat that has recently surfaced. Santos won't be able to throw off a mound right away in camp. The 24-year-old also dealt with right-elbow soreness last year and could be in danger of opening the 2024 regular season on the injured list. Santos came to Seattle this offseason in a trade from the Chicago White Sox and figures to serve in a setup role when healthy. The Dominican reliever made a career-high 60 appearances out of Chicago's bullpen last year and was solid with a 3.39 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with his first five career saves, 17 walks and 66 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings. Unless injuries in the back of Seattle's bullpen open up save chances for Santos, he's unlikely to have much fantasy appeal in 2024.

  • Mariners Acquire Gregory Santos

    Headshot for Prelander Berroa

The Mariners have acquired right-hander Gregory Santos from the White Sox in exchange for right-hander Prelander Berroa, outfielder Zach DeLoach, and their 2024 Competitive Balance Round B draft pick (#69 overall), according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Both clubs have since announced the deals. To make room for the club’s additions on the 40-man roster,…

  • Mariners Acquire Gregory Santos From White Sox

    Headshot for Gregory Santos

The Seattle Mariners have acquired relief pitcher Gregory Santos from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-hander Prelander Berroa, outfielder Zach DeLoach, and the 69th pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Santos made a handful of appearances between 2021 and 2022 but truly emerged last year, amassing a 3.39 ERA, 8.95 K/9, and 2.31 BB/9 over the course of 66.1 innings before a late-season shoulder injury. Now healthy, he was in the mix to be the White Sox' closer and should maintain a high-leverage role in Seattle.

  • Tim Hill, White Sox Agree On One-Year Deal

    Headshot for Garrett Crochet

Free-agent left-handed reliever Tim Hill and the Chicago White Sox agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million deal on Thursday, according to sources. Hill, 33, became a free agent when he was non-tendered by the San Diego Padres this winter. He'll join a White Sox bullpen where he should see plenty of innings and high-leverage opportunities, which could make him attractive in deep holds leagues in 2024. The side-arming southpaw had a career-worst 5.48 ERA (5.49 FIP) and 1.65 WHIP while walking 14 and striking out 26 in 44 1/3 relief innings for the Friars in his fourth year with the team in 2023. Hill probably isn't going to be very fantasy relevant next year unless he's in the mix for saves and until he can start missing more bats. As of right now, Gregory Santos and Garrett Crochet are the best bets in Chicago for most of the saves.

  • Gregory Santos Might Not Be Full-Go For Start Of Spring Training

    Headshot for Gregory Santos

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Gregory Santos (elbow) is working out in Arizona and has had good medical reports, according to general manager Chris Getz. The team's goal is to have Santos ready for the start of the 2024 season, but he just started a throwing program, so he might not be full-go for the start of spring training. The 24-year-old is projected to share the closer's role next year with left-hander Garrett Crochet, but first Santos must fully recover after closing the 2023 campaign on the injured list with right-elbow inflammation. The White Sox are in full rebuild this offseason, though, so the Chicago bullpen may not yield many saves for Santos and company. The Dominican reliever had a 3.39 ERA (2.65 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with his first five career saves and 66 K's in 66 1/3 relief innings this past season in his first full MLB season after debuting in 2021.
