  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: Center Field

    Headshot for Harrison Bader

Throughout the week, we've covered the upcoming free agent class at MLBTR. As Anthony Franco noted earlier today, we’ll now move to the outfield. You can check out that piece for a preview of the left field/right field options available this winter, but we’ll focus here on center field — one of the relatively well-stocked…

  • Jeimer Candelario Headed To Injured List

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs infielder Jeimer Candelario (back) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. This news comes after Candelario suffered a back strain during Sunday's series finale versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. As a result, Candelario will be sidelined until at least next Thursday. Nick Madrigal is expected to see more playing time at third base, while Cody Bellinger should get some action at first base. The Cubs have also recalled outfielder Alexander Canario as extra depth.

  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: First Base

    Headshot for Jesus Aguilar

With the regular season winding down, a number of teams (and their fanbases) are already starting to turn their attention towards the offseason. Identifying free agent targets is a big part of that prep work, so it's worth taking an early look at the players who'll be available on the open market. Over the coming…

  • Cody Bellinger Homers Again Wednesday

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and his 24th home run in a win over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday afternoon. Bellinger's OPS now sits at .920 and has played like a borderline top-five outfielder this season and may only be behind Freddie Freeman at first base in many fantasy leagues. To say he's having a rebound season is a complete understatement. With four homers and nine RBI through seven September games, Bellinger is showing no signs of slowing down and could be a part of many championship teams in the next few weeks.

  • Cody Bellinger Leads Cubs To Victory With Five RBI

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger has continued his career resurrection as he totaled five RBI in Sunday's win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bellinger went 3-for-5 with two runs and two doubles. The five RBI was half of Chicago's 10-1 win. Hitting .321 with a .914 OPS for a hot team, Bellinger should continue to be a fantasy star the rest of the way. That makes 10 RBI over five games for Bellinger and 75 on the season.

  • Cody Bellinger Adds Two Homers To Resurgence In Win

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals. The 28-year-old went the other way twice in this one, first bopping a two-run homer to the opposite field in the first inning. The lefty-hitting Bellinger then banged another HR to deep left center in the third frame. He also hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Chicago's sixth and final run of the game. Bellinger's long-awaited career renaissance has been on full display during the season's second half. In 42 games since June 30, the former NL MVP is hitting a white-hot .391 (63-for-161) with 11 long balls, 37 RBI, and seven stolen bases to spearhead on MVP-caliber campaign overall.

  • Cody Bellinger's Resurgent Season

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

For much of the 2023 season, it’s looked as though the number of impact bats on the upcoming free agent market would be — well… minimal. Shohei Ohtani looms large over both the starting pitching and position player markets, and there’s no real consolation prize for the teams that miss out on him. Matt Chapman…

  • Cubs Telling Teams They Won't Trade Cody Bellinger

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

The Chicago Cubs are telling teams that outfielder Cody Bellinger won't be traded by Tuesday's deadline, according to sources familiar with the situation. The Cubs instead will be looking to add relief help after winning eight games in a row heading into Sunday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. Chicago is now 3.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central and just three games out of the final wild card spot. The 28-year-old Bellinger is having a resurgent season with a .315/.368/.540 slash line. Since the All-Star break, he has a 1.140 OPS and has been playing great defense in center field and first base. Fantasy managers need to keep riding the hot hand.

  • Yankees Looking For Left-Handed Hitter

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

The New York Yankees are casting a wide net on the trade market as they search for a left-handed hitter to help jumpstart their offense. Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger has been mentioned as a possibility, but he could be off the market with the Cubs in the mix for a wild-card spot. If Bellinger is truly unavailable, the Yankees could turn to St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson or Washington Nationals third baseman Jeimer Candelario. Candelario would be a solid defensive addition at third base as well. Veteran Josh Donaldson (calf) might not be able to make it back this year, so the Yankees could surely use an upgrade at the hot corner as they attempt to make a run at the postseason down the stretch.

  • Marlins Looking At Cody Bellinger

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

The Miami Marlins are among the teams looking at Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger as the Aug. 1 trade deadline quickly approaches. However, the Cubs have a better chance of reaching the postseason than the Marlins due, according to the latest Baseball Reference projections. It remains to be seen if the Cubs will even be sellers at this point as they currently stand six games out of the National League Central lead behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. They are five games out of a wild-card spot. Bellinger, a former MVP and Rookie of the Year, has had a resurgence in Chicago in 2023, hitting .314/.363/.540 with a .903 OPS, 14 home runs, 15 doubles, a triple, 45 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 53 runs scored in 69 games. A move to Miami might actually be bad news for his fantasy value the rest of the way in 2023.

  • Cody Bellinger Hits Two-Run Homer

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger has been seemingly unstoppable at the plate over the last month. The left-handed slugger continued to have success versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Bellinger blasted a two-run home run in the first inning to get the Cubbies on the board. He would finished the day with three RBI in the 7-2 victory over the Cards. Bellinger is hitting .438 with seven homers, and 22 RBI this month. He's expected to be one of the better bats available at the upcoming trade deadline.

The Astros “checked in” with the Cubs about two of the team’s biggest trade chips, as USA Today’s Bob Nightengale writes that Houston inquired about right-hander Marcus Stroman and outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger.  Either player would essentially be a rental pickup for the Astros, as Stroman and Bellinger are each widely expected to become free…

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a walk in a 10-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Bellinger's slam came in the bottom of the third and traveled 414 feet with an exit velocity of 105.6 MPH. The veteran outfielder has been swinging a hot bat of late, with three homers in his past two contests. Overall, Bellinger is slashing .305/.362/.531 with 12 homers, 48 runs, 35 RBI, and 11 steals over 226 at-bats in 2023. He could be a hot name for contending teams as the trade deadline nears.
