  • Clay Holmes Blows Another Save

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes had another rough outing Friday night, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in an inning of work, blowing his fourth save of the year and earning his third loss in the process. Holmes struck out two batters. He still has a very strong 2.12 ERA and 0.96 WHIP on the year, but patience could run out quickly if Holmes doesn't right the ship in short order. Aroldis Chapman is lurking as another option to close out games, but fantasy managers should hold onto Holmes for the time being.

  • Clay Holmes Suffers Blown Save On Sunday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes had a disastrous outing against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The right-hander allowed a three-run homer in the ninth inning, which was only the second time he has been scored on this month. This counts as his third blown save of the season as his command continues to escape him. It's unlikely that the Yankees are going to pull him from the closer job. Fantasy managers should expect Holmes to bounce back from this. He might get a day or two off, but should remain as the closer in New York.

  • Clay Holmes Tosses Perfect Ninth Inning

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes has been nearly unhittable all season long. That continued during his outing versus the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Holmes pitched a perfect ninth inning and held the one-run lead during Thursday's victory. He has recorded five saves in his last six appearances. Holmes has an unbelievable 0.47 ERA and continues to be one of the best relievers in baseball.

  • Clay Holmes Gets Save No. 13 Tuesday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes managed to pick up his 13th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Athletics despite odd circumstances. Holmes entered to pitch the ninth inning up 2-0. He struck the first two hitters out, but a runner then reached on catcher's interference and advanced to second on a stolen base. Holmes then allowed back-to-back singles, one of which brought an unearned run in, but he managed to stop things there with a groundout. Holmes has been fantastic for the Yankees this season, converting all but one save opportunity with a 9.59 K/9 rate, 1.26 BB/9 rate, and 0.50 ERA. Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is expected to rejoin the team in a few weeks, but Holmes has pitched too well to be cast aside by fantasy managers, even when Chapman does return.

  • Clay Holmes Shuts The Door For His 12th Save

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays to earn his 12th save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced in the inning, recording one strikeout. Holmes had blown his last save opportunity on Monday, so it was nice to see him bounce back with a scoreless ninth. Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) appears to be about a week or two away from returning to the team. He'll complicate the ninth inning situation once he's back, but Holmes has done little to lose trust from the team. He has a 0.53 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP on the year. Both Holmes and Chapman are must-roster players in all fantasy leagues for now.

  • Clay Holmes Charged With Blown Save Monday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes was charged with his first blown save of the season in Monday's 4-2 win over the Rays. Holmes entered to pitch the eighth inning up by two with one out and a runner on first. He allowed a double, an RBI groundout, an RBI single to tie the game, a walk, and finally got the third out on a strikeout. The fact that Holmes managed to make it into late June without a blown save is a testament to how well we has pitched, as he has 11 saves and a 0.55 ERA over 32 2/3 innings pitched. Holmes will still likely hold fantasy value even when Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) eventually returns.

  • Clay Holmes Records His 11th Save On Wednesday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes shut the door on the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday to close out the team's 4-3 victory. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. Holmes is now a perfect 11-for-11 on save chances this year. He's been one of the most effective relievers in the majors with a 0.29 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP. He's walked just three batters across 30.2 innings while maintaining a phenomenal K/BB rate of 10.7. Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is nearing a return and multiple reports this week have suggested that Holmes and Chapman could share closing duties once Chapman is back. Both players are must-roster relievers in all fantasy formats. A ninth inning split could be a bit of a headache for fantasy managers, but the 46-16 Yankees could have enough save opportunities to support both relievers.

  • Clay Holmes Earns 10th Save Of Season Tuesday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes notched his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Rays. Holmes entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He struck the first two hitters out, allowed a single, and then ended the game with a flyout. The 29-year-old has been superb this season, going 4-0 without a blown save, a 0.31 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and just three walks over 29 2/3 innings pitched. Teammate Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) has started throwing bullpen sessions, but the closer's role may not automatically be his again once he returns, given how well Holmes has pitched. Holmes is currently a high-end fantasy closing option and may still be one when Chapman returns.

  • Clay Holmes Squeaks Out Seventh Save

New York Yankees reliever Clay Holmes picked up his seventh save of the season on Thursday night, closing out his club's 2-1 win over the Angels. The right-hander made quick work of the first two batters he faced, but he ran into trouble after walking Shohei Ohtani and then hitting back-to-back batters to load up the bases. He subsequently got Luis Rengifo to ground out to end the ball game and to keep his 23-game scoreless appearance streak in tact. Holmes has stepped in nicely as the club's closer with Aroldis Chapman sidelined and could keep getting save opportunities even when the lefty returns to the mound.

  • Clay Holmes Earns Third Save On Wednesday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes worked a pair of scoreless innings during Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees have been cautious lately with the struggling Aroldis Chapman. That being said, Holmes worked the final two innings of Wednesday's victory over the O's. He allowed one hit over two innings and earned his third save of the season. He has allowed one run and amassed a 19/2 K/BB ratio in 20 1/3 innings. It's uncertain how long he'll continue pitching at this level of excellence, but fantasy managers should take advantage of it.
