Edmundo Sosa Returns To Lineup Friday

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa (back) is back in the starting lineup on Friday against the Colorado Rockies and right-hander Noah Davis. Sosa is starting at third base and is hitting ninth in the batting order. The 27-year-old will return to action after missing the last five games with a lower back injury. Despite his strong .344 average (11-for-32) with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI, Sosa doesn't have much DFS upside while batting at the bottom of Philly's lineup. Still, with Rhys Hoskins (knee) out for the year and Alec Bohm sliding over to first base on occasion, Sosa should continue to get decent playing time at the hot corner, making him worth rostering in deep-mixed leagues while he continues to play well.

Edmundo Sosa Still Out Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. Sosa will be missing his fifth straight game after suffering a lower back injury last weekend. There's a chance that the 27-year-old will need to go on the injured list if his injury doesn't improve by the weekend. Sosa and the Phils would prefer if he avoided the IL, as he's hitting .344 (11-for-32) with three doubles, two home runs, five RBI and two runs in 13 games in the early going. Alec Bohm is shifting to first base and hitting seventh on Thursday, while Josh Harrison is at third base and batting ninth in the order against Rockies right-hander Ryan Feltner. Harrison is a low-upside, low-cost DFS option Thursday.

Edmundo Sosa Exits Saturday's Game Early

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa (back) left Saturday's game against the Reds with low back discomfort. According to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sosa went down at third base in batting practice after getting wiped out by a hard grounder. He got right back up and finished taking grounders. This could have played a part in Sosa exiting early. The 27-year-old went 2-for-2 before being replaced in the game by Kody Clemens. Sosa is considered day-to-day for now. Clemens would see an uptick in at-bats if Sosa were to miss any games.

Edmundo Sosa Fine After Being Hit By Pitch

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa (forearm) said he's OK after being hit by a pitch on his right forearm in the Grapefruit League game on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles. He's just dealing with a little tightness after leaving the game early as a precaution. The Phillies figure to use the 27-year-old as a utility player in 2023, and he's also been getting some repetitions in the outfield in camp. In 78 games with the Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals in 2022, he hit .227/.275/.369 with a .644 OPS, two home runs, 21 RBI, 26 runs scored and a career-high six stolen bases in 190 plate appearances. Unless the Phillies are hit with injuries, Sosa figures to serve in a bench role yet again.
