  • Alex Bregman Back In Action Monday

    Headshot for Alex Bregman

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (illness) is back at third base and is hitting cleanup for the Astros on Monday against the visiting Atlanta Braves and right-hander Darius Vines after missing the last three games with an illness. Fantasy managers will want to get Bregman back in their lineups for the week. The 30-year-old will look to get things rolling at the plate after a slow start to the season. The two-time All-Star is currently slashing .241/.305/.333 with no home runs, two RBI, a stolen base, two runs scored and nine strikeouts in 59 plate appearances over his first 14 games played. This will be the first time that Bregman has faced Vines in the big leagues.

  • Alex Bregman Remains Out On Sunday

    Headshot for Alex Bregman

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (illness) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. The stud corner infielder will now miss his third game in a row due to a lingering illness. It's unlikely that the Astros need to place Bregman on the injured list, but fantasy managers should stay tuned. Mauricio Dubon will get the start at third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Fantasy managers should avoid Dubon in this tough matchup.

  • Alex Bregman Still Battling An Illness, Remains Out On Saturday

    Headshot for Alex Bregman

Bregman is considered day-to-day. Mauricio Dubon will start at third base and is batting ninth for the Astros in Saturday's game. He is slashing .259/.286/.333 with two doubles, five RBI, and two strikeouts over 10 games in 2024. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman went 3-for-4 with two-three run home runs in the team's 13-5 win over the New York Mets. • Alex Bregman Working To Develop More Power

    Headshot for Alex Bregman

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has been working to add more power to his game this offseason, according to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Earlier this offseason, Bregman was approached by hitting coach Troy Snitker who had an "intriguing proposition [...] aimed at helping the third baseman produce more power in the upcoming year." Bregman has since adopted a new hitting program in which he uses differently weighted bats, which is intended to improve bat speed, produce higher exit velocities, and combat faster pitching. The third baseman slashed just .262/.363/.441 last year but still contributed 25 homers. Adding additional power to his game could bring Bregman back to an All-Star level.

The Astros locked up one franchise icon yesterday, perhaps for the remainder of his career, when signing second baseman Jose Altuve to a five-year, $125MM deal that runs through his age-39 campaign. • Astros To Make Extension Offer To Alex Bregman

    Headshot for Alex Bregman

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said this week that the team will "definitely" make a contract-extension offer to All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman before he reaches free agency following the 2024 season. It comes after the Astros locked up second baseman Jose Altuve with a five-year, $125 million extension on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Bregman is younger than Altuve and could decide he wants to test the free-agent market, especially if he has a strong campaign in 2024. He hit .262/.363/.441 with 25 home runs, 28 doubles, four triples, 98 RBI, three stolen bases and 103 runs scored in 161 games played in his eighth big-league season last year. The two-time All-Star resides in one of the best lineups in baseball and should still be considered a top-10 fantasy third baseman.
