  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Getting A Breather On Wednesday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against right-hander Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals. Raimel Tapia will be handling left field duties for the contest. Gurriel has been fantastic at the plate over the course of July. He owns a .408/.444/.513 slash line across the month, which has helped lift his season-long slash line to .313/.362/.433. We're still waiting to see the home runs come in as he has just five homers across 88 games on the year. He has a peculiarly low 5.4% HR/FB rate (down from 15.3% last year), despite the fact that he's improved upon both his launch angle and hard-hit rate from last year. There's a good chance we could see some positive home run regression for Gurriel over the final months of the year.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Retreats To The Bench On Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is not included in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Raimel Tapia will be covering Gurriel's usual left field post for the game. Gurriel got off to a slow start to the season, but he's really turned a corner over the past month or so. He's currently in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, during which he's compiled four doubles, one home run, two RBI and seven runs. His .355/.394/.505 slash line in June helped lift his season-long slash line to .295/.350/.433.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Back To The Bench On Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will be on the bench for Tuesday's game against right-hander Jordan Hicks and the St. Louis Cardinals. Raimel Tapia is getting the start in left field and batting ninth in the game. Gurriel seems to be falling out of favor due to his early struggles. He was on the bench Sunday, then he batted eighth in Monday's game and now he's sitting for the second time in three games. Over 39 games on the year, the 28-year-old is slashing .225/.273/.326 with two home runs, 12 RBI and 13 runs.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Sitting Out On Sunday

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Out With Hamstring Soreness Friday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) exited Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners with hamstring soreness and the injury is still nagging him. While he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list, he is being held out of the starting lineup on Friday. Raimel Tapia will be getting the start in left field and batting sixth in the game. Gurriel has yet to settle in at the plate this year. Over 37 games, he's slashing .227/.273/.333 with two home runs, 12 RBI and 13 runs. He should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Removed From Wednesday's Game Early

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) was removed from Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners with left hamstring tightness. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before leaving. The severity of his hamstring is unknown at this time, and Gurriel is considered day-to-day. Raimel Tapia replaced him in the sixth inning. Tapia, along with Bradley Zimmer, would see an uptick in playing time if Gurriel were to miss extended time. Gurriel was hitting .227 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases in 2022. Stay tuned for further updates.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Out Of The Lineup On Monday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is absent from the starting lineup for Monday's game against right-hander Chris Flexen and the Seattle Mariners. Raimel Tapia will be covering Gurriel's usual left field post in the game. Gurriel is off to a slow start to the year and he's been especially cold at the plate in May. Over 13 games this month, he's slashing just .130/.184/.174 with two extra-base hits (both doubles). Gurriel has a bit of a history of starting the year off slow and finishing strong. Last year, he posted a 1.084 OPS in September while slugging seven home runs across the month. Fantasy managers should remain patient with the 28-year-old, who will be back in action on Tuesday.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Continues Slide

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has struggled to get things going in the month of May, slashing .130/.184/.174 with no home runs, one run scored, two RBI, and one steal. He now has a .618 OPS with two homers and two steals in 126 at-bats this season. This level of performance makes it very hard to justify keeping Gurriel around, but with a .265 BABIP, things should level out to a certain extent, especially in a potent Toronto lineup though maybe not enough to warrant a role in categories leagues where his lack of upside in the power or speed departments is more of a hit to his value.
