  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: Third Base

    Headshot for Ehire Adrianza

With the regular season winding down, a number of teams (and their fanbases) are already starting to turn their attention towards the offseason. Identifying free agent targets is a big part of that prep work, so it's worth taking an early look at the players who'll be available on the open market. Over the coming…

  • Brian Anderson Back From Injured List

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers activated third baseman Brian Anderson (back) from the 10-day injured list on Thursday. In corresponding moves, right-hander Trevor Megill and infielder Abraham Toro were optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Anderson will return to Milwaukee after almost three weeks on the shelf with a back strain, but he won't be in the starting lineup on Thursday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. The 30-year-old had cooled off in June before getting hurt, and he's returning to a .229/.317/.373 slash line with nine home runs, 38 RBI and 35 runs scored for the Brew Crew in 292 at-bats. Anderson is only a corner-infield option in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues in a part-time role at the hot corner for the Brewers.

  • Brian Anderson Expected To Return In August

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

Milwaukee Brewers' third baseman/outfielder Brian Anderson (back) isn't expected to return from the injured list until early-to-mid August. He has been sidelined since July 16 after suffering a lower-back strain. The 30-year-old took grounders and hit in the cage earlier in the week. Anderson is slashing .229/.317/.373 with nine homers and 38 RBI over 383 plate appearances in 2023. The Brewers recently acquired first baseman Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates, potentially taking at-bats away from Anderson once he returns. Andruw Monasterio will continue to handle the hot corner while Anderson is sidelined.

  • Brian Anderson Gets Infield Work On Friday

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Brian Anderson (back) took grounders ahead of Friday's game versus the Atlanta Braves. The 30-year-old was forced to the injured list on July 16 after suffering a lower-back strain while handling grounders two days earlier. Anderson isn't slated to start swinging again until early next week. The big-armed Anderson signified a valuable early-season fantasy addition while riding a white-hot start, but he came down to earth in a big way thereafter. He was hitting just .211 with a .570 OPS in his most recent 114 at-bats prior to this setback. Even with Anderson potentially back as early as next weekend, fantasy managers might be able find a stronger IL stash on waiver wires outside of NL-only leagues.

  • Brian Anderson Lands On 10-Day Injured List

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers placed infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 13) on Sunday with a lower-back strain and recalled infielder Jahmai Jones from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. It remains to be seen if Anderson will be able to return when his 10 days on the injured list are up. With the 30-year-old on the shelf, Andruw Monasterio will make his third straight start at the hot corner on Sunday and will hit seventh against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Ben Lively. Anderson isn't a must-stash in deep-mixed fantasy leagues, especially if he misses extended time, as he's hitting just .229 (67-for-292) on the year with nine home runs, 11 doubles, two triples, 38 RBI and 35 runs scored in 334 trips to the plate over 85 games played.

  • Brian Anderson Remains Out On Saturday

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Brian Anderson (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. The 30-year-old was a late scratch on Friday due to back discomfort. It appears Anderson is still dealing with the issue, so he'll sit out at least one more game. Andruw Monasterio will cover third base and bat seventh versus left-hander Andrew Abbott on Saturday.

  • Brian Anderson Scratched On Friday

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Brian Anderson (back) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. The right-handed slugger has been pulled from the lineup due to lower back discomfort. Andruw Monasterio will cover third base and bat sixth versus right-hander Graham Ashcraft. The assumption is that this is a minor injury and Anderson should be back in a few days. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Anderson out on Friday.

  • Rowdy Tellez Put On Injured List, Brian Anderson Activated

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers placed first baseman Rowdy Tellez (forearm) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with right-forearm inflammation and reinstated infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson from the paternity list in a corresponding move. The team also designated infielder Mike Brosseau for assignment and released left-hander Thomas Pannone. Tellez has really struggled since June 18, going 6-for-47 (.128) with no homers and five RBI in 15 games, so he could use the time off to recharge for the second half of the season. Anderson will return last played on July 2 and has four hits (a triple) in his nine at-bats to start the month of July. He's returning to a .227/.318/.374 slash line with nine homers and 37 RBI in 273 at-bats.

  • Brian Anderson On Paternity List, Brewers Sign Jahmai Jones

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers placed infielder Brian Anderson on the paternity list on Monday and signed free-agent utility man Jahmai Jones to an undisclosed deal in a corresponding move and added him to the 26-man roster. Anderson will be away from the team for three days at the most. With the 30-year-old away, Andruw Monasterio is starting at the hot corner and is hitting sixth in the lineup against Chicago Cubs left-hander Drew Smyly on Monday. Anderson is hitting just .227 (62-for-273) on the year, but he does have nine homers in 80 games in his first year in Milwaukee. Jones, a former top-100 prospect, latches on with another team quickly after opting out of his minor-league deal with the Dodgers over the weekend. The 25-year-old could see some playing time around Milwaukee's infield in the short term.
