  • Offseason Outlook: Tampa Bay Rays

    Headshot for Jason Adam

In conjunction with this post, Darragh McDonald will hold a Rays-centric chat on 10-20-23 at 11 am Central. Click here to ask a question in advance. The Rays continued their impressive run of success while working with limited funds. Despite having one of the lowest payrolls in the league, they made the playoffs for a…

Every Rays offseason inevitably leads to trade rumors about their higher-salaried players, whether it’s players getting increasingly expensive through their arbitration years or players entering more expensive years of their current contracts.  The same should be true this winter, as Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times writes that Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot “seem…

  • Jose Siri On The Bench For Game 2

    Headshot for Jose Siri

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri finds himself on the bench for Game 2 of the wild-card series against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. Josh Lowe enters the starting lineup in right field and will bat cleanup against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, while Manuel Margot is patrolling center field and batting in the six-hole. Siri is coming off a fractured hand that put him on the injured list in September, and he was 0-for-3 in the Game 1 loss to Texas on Tuesday. Margot has two singles and a strikeout in his seven career at-bats against Eovaldi. The 29-year-old Dominican provided very modest numbers for fantasy managers in 2023 with a .264 average (82-for-311) with just four home runs, 38 RBI, nine stolen bases and 39 runs scored.

  • Jose Siri Makes Playoff Roster, Luke Raley Left Off

    Headshot for Luke Raley

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri (hand) is on the roster for the wild-card series against the Texas Rangers and is starting in center field and hitting eighth on Tuesday against left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Meanwhile, Luke Raley (neck), who has been dealing with a cervical strain the last two weeks, will have to hope the team advances to the American League Division Series. Siri missed the last three weeks with a hairline fracture in his right hand, so it remains to be seen how effective he'll be at the plate in this series. The 28-year-old hit just .222 (75-for-338), but he did produce a career-high 25 home runs and also stole 12 bases for the Rays in the regular season in 101 games played.

  • Jose Siri, Luke Raley Take Batting Practice Monday

    Headshot for Luke Raley

Tampa Bay Rays outfielders Jose Siri (hand) and Luke Raley (neck) both took part in a live batting practice session during a workout on Monday. Siri has missed the last three weeks due to a hairline fracture in his right hand. The 28-year-old said he feels ready, but it remains to be seen if he'll be included on the team's roster for the wild-card series against the Texas Rangers, which begins on Tuesday. Raley, meanwhile, has been out of action for a few weeks due to a cervical strain. Both Siri and Raley were key contributors in Tampa's outfield for the majority of the 2023 season, so hopefully they'll have at least one of them available this week against Texas. Siri hit just .222 but broke out with a career-high 25 homers and 12 stolen bases in 101 games. Raley also had a breakout in his third MLB season, hitting .249 with 19 homers, 49 RBI and 14 steals in 118 games.

  • Jose Siri Placed On 10-Day Injured List By Rays

    Headshot for Jose Siri

The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Jose Siri (hand) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right-hand fracture and recalled outfielder Curtis Mead from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Siri and the team are optimistic that he can return in three weeks and for the postseason. The 28-year-old kept saying "maybe two weeks" when the media spoke with him on Monday. Siri suffered a small fracture in his hand on Monday night against the Minnesota Twins after getting hit by a pitch. The bottom line is that Siri is unlikely to contribute to fantasy lineups the rest of the way in 2023. Until he's able to return, Luke Raley is expected to see the majority of starts in center field for the Rays.

    Headshot for Jonathan Aranda

Rays center fielder Jose Siri suffered a fracture in his right hand during this evening’s win over the Twins, manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). He’ll land on the 10-day injured list, though the Rays are hopeful he could return in around three weeks. Siri was injured in the…

  • Jose Siri Fractures Right Hand Monday

    Headshot for Jose Siri

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that outfielder Jose Siri (hand) fractured his right hand in the team's 7-4 win over the Twins. Siri was hit by a pitch on his hand, and while he stayed in to run the bases, he was eventually replaced by Vidal Brujan. Cash said that Siri could return in about three weeks, essentially ending his fantasy season. This is a shame, as the 28-year-old had provided power and speed, slashing .222/.267/.494 with 25 home runs, 56 RBI, and 12 stolen bases. Fantasy managers will want to look beyond Brujan for replacements, as he has hit just .178 in 81 plate appearances this season.

  • Jose Siri Leaves After Hit By Pitch Monday

    Headshot for Jose Siri

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri (hand) left Monday night's game against the Minnesota Twins after being hit by a pitch on his hand. Siri looked to be in serious pain and stayed in to run the bases before eventually leaving the contest. He did give a thumbs up before leaving the dugout, but Siri will probably undergo X-rays to rule out any breaks in his hand. Vidal Brujan entered the game in the outfield for Tampa after Siri left. Before leaving, the 28-year-old went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored to raise his season average to .222 and OPS to .761. Siri entered Monday's contest hitting .220/.264/.494 with 25 home runs, 55 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 57 runs scored in 336 at-bats. Check back for updates on Siri's condition and whether he'll be forced to miss any additional time.
