  • Trea Turner Having Some Early Strikeout Woes

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner hasn't shown great plate discipline through the early going this year. Through eight games, he has a 24.2% strikeout rate, up from 13.9% last year. He's struck out twice in each of his past two games. His walk rate so far this year (3%) is also well below where it usually is. He had a walk rate of 8.5% in 2020. Turner has hit two home runs and has a decent slugging percentage of .452. He also recorded his first stolen base of the year on Sunday. Fantasy managers should rest assured. There's nothing alarming here, just a bit of a slow start for the Nationals star.

  • Trea Turner Homers In Win Tuesday

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 6-5 victory over the Braves on Tuesday. It's been a long wait for Turner and the Nationals to start their season, but it was a good start to 2021 for Turner after he slashed .170/.316/.213 in 18 games during Spring Training. He will look to build off this "Opening Day" performance on Wednesday during the Nationals' doubleheader with Atlanta.

  • Trea Turner Reaches Base Three Times Against Astros

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner had a strong day at the plate in Friday's 10-9 win over the Astros. Turner went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored, giving him seven walks, four hits, and a stolen base in 11 Grapefruit League games. The 27-year-old had an excellent campaign in the shortened season, posting double-digit homers and steals for the fifth year in a row while batting .335 with 40-plus runs and RBI. Turner placed in the 90th percentile or better in expected batting average, strikeout rate, and sprint speed. He's a legitimate five-category contributor and a great anchor for fantasy teams at his first-round ADP.

  • Trea Turner To Be Offered Extension Soon

The Washington Nationals are expected to offer shortstop Trea Turner an extension within the next year or so. He is eligible for a year of arbitration before becoming a free agent in 2023. Turner recently said in an interview, "I would love to play my entire career here." Turner had a fantastic year in 2020, despite the Nationals' struggles as a whole. Over 59 games in 2020, Turner slashed .335/.394/.588 with 12 home runs, 41 RBI, 46 runs and 12 stolen bases. He's an absolute fantasy stud in all formats and is particularly valuable in rotisserie and head-to-head leagues due to his stolen base expertise.

  • Trea Turner Goes 1-for-2 Wednesday

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner went 1-for-2 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Miami Marlins. Turner has now recorded a hit in his first three spring training games to begin 2021. What is most interesting is that the Nationals appear to be following through with their plan of hitting him in the middle of the order as he once again batted third on Wednesday. Turner's speed is well-known as he has stolen 90 bases across the previous three seasons, but now with the Nationals moving him down in the order, the RBI production could be there as well.

  • Nationals Want Trea Turner In Heart Of The Order

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner has long been the team's leadoff hitter, but manager Davey Martinez would prefer him as a middle-of-the-order bat, Mark Zuckerman wrote Monday. Turner did bat second or third for much of 2020 and certainly has the power to succeed as a lineup anchor, with 31 home runs in 181 games going back to the start of 2019. As Zuckerman writes, however, the Nationals may not have anyone better suited to lead off than Turner. The big implication here is not, of course, whether Turner is valuable--he's an easy first-round pick in drafts--but whether he will more score runs or drive them in. That may affect how you structure your team down-draft.
