Luis Severino, Mets Agree To One-Year Deal

The Mets are reportedly in agreement with free agent starter Luis Severino on a one-year, $13MM guarantee. The deal also includes $2MM in performance bonuses, the details of which are not publicly known. Severino is represented by Rep 1 Baseball. Severino, 30 in February, is a wild card of this winter’s free agent market. He…
Nov 30 · MLB Trade Rumors New York Mets Luis SeverinoMets, Luis Severino Finalizing One-Year Deal

The New York Mets and free-agent right-hander Luis Severino are finalizing a one-year, $13 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 29-year-old will join a Mets starting rotation in serious need of reinforcements after he spent eight years pitching for the New York Yankees. Severino didn't exactly live up to the high expectations when he initially joined the Yankees, mainly due to various injuries. He wasn't very good in his final season in the Bronx with a 6.65 ERA in only 89 1/3 innings, and his season ended prematurely due to a high-grade oblique strain. Severino should be fully healthy by the start of spring training in 2024, though, and he will be locked into their starting rotation to begin the year.

Mets Showing Interest In Luis Severino

Free-agent starting pitcher Luis Severino reportedly has at least eight teams interested in his services. According to Will Sammon, the New York Mets are one of the teams showing interest in the right-hander hurler. Severino is coming off a terrible 2023 season, but has a strong track record. Last season, Severino posted a 6.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 79/34 K/BB ratio across 18 starts. Possibly, he lands a multi-year deal, but could have to settle for a one-year prove it type of deal this offseason. The Mets could certainly use the help in the rotation with multiple voids to fill. On paper, Severino seems like a good fit, but we'll have to wait and see if the two can make a deal.

Mets Interested In Luis Severino

Luis Severino’s trip through free agency could lead him to another New York borough, as the former Yankees right-hander has gotten some interest from the Mets, The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports. Mets officials are planning a meeting with the 29-year-old to explore the possibility of a deal between the two sides. A reunion with the…
Nov 18 · MLB Trade Rumors New York Mets Luis SeverinoLuis Severino Progressing From Oblique Injury And Attracting Interest

Free-agent right-hander Luis Severino's (oblique) rehab is going well and he's back to throwing and is currently feeling good, and there has been interest in him in from as many as eight teams. The New York Yankees aren't believed to be one of them. Severino missed the final month of the 2023 season due to a high-grade oblique strain, but he should be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season, barring any setbacks this winter. The 29-year-old threw only 89 1/3 innings for the Yankees this season due to injury and wasn't good with a 6.65 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. The Dominican hurler is a two-time All-Star, though, and went 7-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 19 starts for New York in 2022 and could be a nice bounce-back candidate in real life and fantasy next season.

Offseason Outlook: New York Yankees

The Yankees’ 82-80 record kept the club’s streak of winning seasons alive, but that was small consolation within a very disappointing season in the Bronx. Some manner of unspecified changes seem to be coming within the organization, yet GM Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone look to be returning, as the Yankees will try to…

Right-hander Michael King transitioned from a relief role to a starting gig this year and the results were encouraging enough that the Yankees will give him a chance to stick in the rotation next year. New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino (oblique) will miss the remainder of the 2023 season after being diagnosed with a high-grade left oblique strain on Saturday. The 29-year-old was pulled from Friday's start versus the Milwaukee Brewers with a left side issue. He was later diagnosed with an oblique strain. The right-hander finishes the season with a 6.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and a 79:34 K: BB across 89 1/3 innings in 2023. Severino is an impending free agent next offseason, and it's entirely possible his career as a Yankee could be over. The veteran will look to fully recover this offseason from his oblique strain and rebound in 2024 after a dismal 2023 campaign.

Luis Severino Leaves Friday's Start With Side Issue

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino was pulled from Friday's start versus the Milwaukee Brewers due to a left side injury and he will undergo diagnostic testing on Saturday. The 29-year-old was in visible discomfort while favoring his left side and had to come out of the game before recording an out in the fifth inning. Severino allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts in four innings before his night ended. It remains to be seen if the oft-injured right-hander is dealing with an oblique strain, which could end what has been a fall from grace in 2023 for the former Yankees ace. Severino has staggered to a career-worst 6.65 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with 79 punchouts during 89 1/3 frames this year.
