  • Mitch Garver Collects Three Hits, Homers Monday

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

Texas Rangers catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver had another nice day at the plate in Monday's 5-1 win over the Angels. Serving as DH, Garver went 3-for-3 with two singles, a solo home run, and a walk. The 32-year-old has been great offensively when healthy, slashing .281/.381/.525with 19 HR and 50 RBI in 324 plate appearances. Hopefully, he can keep things going for the final week of the season as the Rangers push for the playoffs.

  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: Designated Hitter

    Headshot for Josh Bell

Over the past week, we’ve gone around the diamond with looks at the upcoming free agent class. We round out the offensive players with a look at the designated hitters. It is obviously headlined by the two-way star who is likely to break the all-time contract record. There are a handful of accomplished veteran hitters…

  • Mitch Garver Singles On Friday After Exiting Thursday

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

Texas Rangers catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver (foot), who returned to Friday's lineup against the Cleveland Guardians, went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the 12-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The 32-year-old had X-rays return negative on his left foot after fouling a ball off of it in Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Garver continued his productive ways, as he's supplied a strong presence at DH for Texas while he's been healthy since early June. The former Silver Slugger is slashing a potent .280/.381/.528 with 17 home runs, 11 doubles, and 45 RBI in 292 trips to the plate this season. Garver has helped guide fantasy rosters needing a catcher to the playoffs, and he should carry on doing so while in the heart of the Rangers order.

  • Mitch Garver Leaves Game Early, X-Rays Negative

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

Texas Rangers catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver was removed from Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after fouling a ball off his foot. Garver hobbled up the line a few pitches later and was taken out for his next at-bat. Fortunately, X-rays confirmed that there is no fracture and he is listed as having a left forefoot contusion. This is a sigh of relief for fantasy managers, as Garver has been one of the better catcher-eligible players for the last few months. He may still miss some games, so be sure to check for updates tomorrow.

  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: Catcher

    Headshot for Jorge Alfaro

With the regular season winding down, a number of teams (and their fanbases) are already starting to turn their attention towards the offseason. Identifying free agent targets is a big part of that prep work, so it's worth taking an early look at the players who'll be available on the open market. Over the coming…

It has been over a year since Michael Brantley underwent shoulder surgery and even longer (June 26, 2022) since the veteran slugger appeared in a big league game.  However, Brantley’s long recovery process may finally be nearing an end, as Astros GM Dana Brown told 790 AM’s Robert Ford in a radio interview today (hat…

  • Mitch Garver Getting A Day Off On Saturday

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Miami Marlins. This is just a day off for the veteran backstop who has started the last nine games for Texas. The 32-year-old is slashing .271/.358/.474 with seven home runs and 23 RBI over 133 at-bats on the year. Backup catcher Austin Hedges is starting behind the dish on Saturday and batting ninth against opener George Soriano.

  • Mitch Garver Contributes Two Hits In Texas Victory

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver went 2-for-4, delivering a home run in a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Garver also drove in two runs and struck out once in the contest. This season, the 32-year-old veteran backstop is hitting .262/.347/.816 while bashing seven home runs and collecting 23 RBI in 130 trips to the batter's box. He should continue to see more time behind the plate with All-Star catcher Jonah Heim still recovering from a left-wrist tendon strain.

  • Rangers Acquiring Catcher Austin Hedges From Pirates

    Headshot for Mitch Garver

The Texas Rangers are acquiring catcher Austin Hedges from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, according to sources. It's unclear what the Pirates are getting in return, but it's unlikely to be anyone of significance in terms of minor-league prospects. The Rangers could use some more catching depth with Jonah Heim (wrist) currently on the 10-day injured list with a left-wrist tendon strain. Texas hopes Heim can avoid season-ending surgery. Hedges is hitting just .180/.237/.230 with a homer, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored in 161 at-bats this year with Pittsburgh. The defense-first backstop should split playing time with Mitch Garver in his new home. Back in Pittsburgh, rookie Endy Rodriguez will now be given more playing time with Hedges out of the way.

  • Jonah Heim Gets A Breather On Monday

    Headshot for Ezequiel Duran

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim and outfielder Travis Jankowski will both be rested on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays with left-hander Shane McClanahan on the mound in the series opener. Mitch Garver will do the catching and bat sixth, while Ezequiel Duran will start in left field and hit eighth. Robbie Grossman is the designated hitter and is batting seventh for Texas. Heim will get a break after catching all three games of the weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop went 4-for-11 in those three games and is batting a strong .285 (86-for-302) on the year with 13 home runs, 21 doubles, 63 RBI and 46 runs scored in 82 games. The first-time All-Star has been extremely valuable at the shallow catching position in fantasy this year as the Rangers' primary catcher.
