  • Yandy Diaz Hits Homer, Picks Up Three Hits

    Headshot for Yandy Diaz

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz collected three hits, including a home run, in an 8-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Opening Day on Thursday. Diaz picked up right where he left off last year, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while hitting leadoff for the Rays. He should be one of the biggest contributors of batting average in fantasy while hitting for moderate power and collecting plenty of runs. With an ADP outside the top 110, he will be a steal if he can come close to what he did last year, when he posted a .330 batting average, 95 runs, 22 home runs, and 78 RBI.

  • Yandy Diaz Slugs A Homer Thursday

    Headshot for Yandy Diaz

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Yandy Diaz clubbed a home run during his team's Grapefruit League contest versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Diaz's third home run of the spring led off the game while he also added a double in the top of the fourth inning. The 32-year-old is hitting .313 (10-for-32) with those three homers and a double with just one walk versus six strikeouts across 33 trips to the plate this spring, good for a healthy .958 OPS. Despite dealing with groin issues throughout the 2023 season, Diaz raked to the tune of a .330 average with a career-high 22 home runs, 95 runs, 78 RBI, and a .932 OPS across an even 600 plate appearances. He is reportedly fully healthy this spring and carries a nice floor into the 2024 season but expect some regression in the home run department.

  • Yandy Diaz Off To A Cold Start

    Headshot for Yandy Diaz

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz went 0-for-3 on Saturday in a 3-2 Grapefruit League loss to the Boston Red Sox. Last year's AL batting champ is now 1-for-9 with three strikeouts through four spring games. The 2023 Silver Slugger Award winner has a strong offensive profile, with his chase rate, Hard-Hit%, and average EV checking in at 92nd percentile or better. He's also got strikeout and walk rates that are much better than the league averages. Diaz will once again hit for a high average in 2024, although he projects for light home run and RBI totals as far as first baseman go. Despite this, his NFBC ADP is 130 overall which makes him a value there, with RotoBaller ranking him 117 overall.
