  • David Peralta Had Offseason Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder David Peralta (back) needed offseason back surgery to address a herniated disc over the winter, with the pain coming "out of nowhere." It could help explain why his numbers dropped last year with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Rays. The 35-year-old left-hander hit .251/.316/.415 with a .731 OPS, 12 home runs, 59 RBI and 39 runs scored in 490 plate appearances and 134 games played. In Los Angeles, he's expected to be in a part-time platoon in left field against right-handed pitching. In his career, Peralta has an .836 OPS against righties and a .663 OPS against left-handers. Because of his expected part-time role, Peralta isn't a must-draft in shallow mixed leagues in 2023.

  • David Peralta Agrees With Dodgers On Friday

Free-agent outfielder David Peralta and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal on Friday, according to sources. Incentives can take the total of the deal up to $8 million. The 35-year-old left-handed hitter will join Trayce Thompson, Chris Taylor and others to likely see at-bats in left field for the Dodgers in 2023. He spent the 2022 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Rays and hit a combined .251/.316/.415 with a .731 OPS, 12 home runs, 59 RBI and 39 runs scored in 490 plate appearances over 134 games. Peralta really struggled against left-handed pitching in 2022, so he'll most likely be ticketed for a platoon role in LA's outfield. He'll be on the fringe of mixed-league relevance, but the lineup upgrade shouldn't be overlooked.

  • The Free Agent Market Still Has A Handful Of Interesting Platoon Bats

Free agency is slim pickings at this point, with very few potential everyday players still available. There are only 13 hitters who appeared in 100+ games last season who remain unsigned. Only ten of those names topped 400 plate appearances, and only three topped 500. Jurickson Profar and Elvis Andrus are the closest thing to…

  • Rays Notes: Adam, Peralta, Extensions

The Rays and right-hander Jason Adam have had some talks about a multi-year deal, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports, in advance of Adam’s upcoming arbitration hearing.  Adam is one of seven Rays players who couldn’t reach an agreement with the team before the filing deadline, though three of those players (Yandy Diaz,…
