  • DeGrom throws from 90 feet, eyes stretch return

Two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom began throwing from 90 feet Monday, another step in his rehab from right elbow surgery 10 months ago with the hope of pitching for the Rangers down the stretch this season.

  • Jacob deGrom Throwing Out To 90 Feet

    Headshot for Jacob deGrom

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) has extended his throwing program out to 90 feet, which is a new step in his recovery. deGrom continues to work his way back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career in June of last year, and the defending-champion Rangers hope to have him back in their rotation at some stage later this summer. From a fantasy perspective, it's difficult to call deGrom a must-stash with such a fluid recovery timetable. Few other pitchers have his level of upside when healthy; the 35-year-old two-time Cy Young Award winner produced a 2.67 ERA (1.54 FIP), 0.75 WHIP, and 45:9 K:BB across 30 1/3 innings during his debut season in Arlington a year ago. deGrom's progression in his throwing program is something that needs to be kept a close eye on, as the veteran right-hander could turn out to be a league-winning asset if he's available during crunch time of the fantasy season.

  • Jacob deGrom Officially Placed On 60-Day Injured List

    Headshot for Jacob deGrom

The Texas Rangers officially placed right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) on the 60-day injured list on Friday to make room for right-hander Michael Lorenzen on the active roster. deGrom, who is recovering from surgery on his right UCL, started playing catch on Feb. 12 and resumed again on the first official day of spring workouts on Feb. 14, just under eight months after the surgery to fix his torn right UCL ended his 2023 season. It was the second Tommy John surgery for the 35-year-old veteran. General manager Chris Young said that deGrom is progressing well in his rehab with an eye on returning around August. He still has a long ways to go in his recovery and shouldn't be relied on for much, if any, fantasy production late in the second half of 2024 if he returns to Texas' starting rotation.

  • Jacob deGrom Starts Throwing Program

    Headshot for Jacob deGrom

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) said that he started to throw on Monday and will be throwing again on Wednesday at spring training. deGrom is slowly recovering after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last June. If everything goes as planned, the 35-year-old veteran should be able to return to Texas' rotation at some point this summer, along with fellow starter Max Scherzer (back). At this point in his career, deGrom has become a big-time injury risk, as he hasn't thrown more than 100 innings since 2019. After signing a five-year, $185 million deal with the Rangers before the 2023 campaign, deGrom made just six starts before going under the knife. But he was great before getting hurt, striking out 45 and walking just four in 30 1/3 innings.
