  • Jacob deGrom Looks Impressive In Spring Debut

Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom (side) allowed two hits and struck out four over three scoreless innings in Sunday's spring start against the Mariners. The 34-year-old made his spring debut on Sunday after being slowed by tightness in his left side. He showed no rust on Sunday and looked like his ace self. The former New York Met hit 100 mph twice in three innings, and his fastball consistently sat around 97-99 mph. "You saw what he can do, and this is early in Spring Training [for him]," Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said of deGrom. "The most important thing with everybody would be just keeping them healthy. You just saw what one of the best pitchers in the game looks like today. It is just fun to watch him again. We were excited to see him out there." deGrom is an elite ace when healthy and is a high-risk/high-reward pick at his current NFBC ADP of 29.

  • Jacob deGrom To Take The Mound On Sunday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) is scheduled to make his first start of the spring against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. The 34-year-old has been slowly working his way back from a side issue. He threw a 24-pitch simulated game on Tuesday. The expectation is that he'll throw two or three innings during his first start. The team isn't going to have him fully built up in time for Opening Day. The Rangers are going to be extremely cautious with deGrom. When healthy, deGrom is an ace, but keeping him on the field has been a problem throughout his career.

  • Jacob deGrom Likely To Be On Pitch Count Early On

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) is likely to be on a pitch count to start the 2023 regular season. Nathan Eovaldi, who is also working his way through left side tightness in spring training, will probably be limited to around 75-80 pitches to begin the year as well. It puts a damper on their fantasy upside to begin the season, but both right-handers appear to be coming along well after initially reporting their injuries in camp. deGrom recently threw two innings in a minor-league game, and the good news is that the 34-year-old won't have to start the year on the injured list. deGrom is a risk/reward fantasy ace that has seen his fair share of injuries with the New York Mets in recent years.

  • Jacob deGrom Looks Sharp On Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) posted a strong outing during his start in Double-A on Monday. The right-hander struck out five batters while allowing one-run over two innings of work. It's also worth noting that deGrom threw 20 of his 24 pitches for strikes in this outing. The next step is for deGrom to make his spring debut, barring any setbacks. The 34-year-old should be good for Opening Day, but fantasy managers shouldn't get ahead of themselves. There will likely be another update on deGrom within the next few days.

  • Jacob deGrom To Pitch In Double-A Game Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) will start the team's Double-A spring game on a back field on Monday. deGrom threw a successful bullpen session on Saturday and is now ready to make his debut in a spring game, albeit in a minor-league setting. If all goes well on Monday, the 34-year-old two-time Cy Young winner should be set to make his Cactus League debut in his next appearance. Left side tightness early in camp caused the Rangers to shut deGrom down for a bit, but he's ramped up and ready to go now. Barring a setback, he'll be good to go for Opening Day, although Texas could limit his workload initially to keep him healthy early on. When he's not injured, deGrom is a clear fantasy ace.

  • Jacob deGrom Throws Bullpen Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) looked pretty loose on Saturday morning while throwing a bullpen session in camp. If he comes out of the session on Sunday feeling fine, deGrom could make his Cactus League debut as early as Monday. The 34-year-old right-hander experienced some left side tightness early in spring training and was shut down as a precaution, but he's looked good ever since he resumed throwing and will have time to be ready for Opening Day in his first year in Texas. The Rangers could take it easy on the two-time Cy Young winner out of the gates given his extensive recent injury history, but when he's healthy, there's no doubt that he still possesses ace potential for fantasy managers.

  • Jacob deGrom To Throw Bullpen Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) will throw a bullpen session on Saturday. If all goes well with the session, he will make his Cactus League debut on Monday. deGrom has worked his way back from left side soreness at the beginning of spring training, and barring another setback, he should be ready for Opening Day in late March. He looked good in a live batting practice session on Wednesday, hitting the upper-90s with his fastball. It's understandable if fantasy managers are hesitant to consider the two-time Cy Young winner as a fantasy ace in his first year with Texas because of all the injuries and time missed over the last several seasons with the New York Mets.

  • Jacob deGrom Could Make Spring Debut On Monday

If everything goes well, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) could make his Cactus League debut as early as Monday. deGrom suffered from left side tightness early in spring training and has been brought along slowly, but he sat in the upper-90s during a 35-pitch live batting practice session on Wednesday and looked good. Barring a setback, deGrom should make his way into spring games and could be ready for Opening Day in his first season in Texas. The two-time Cy Young winner has become much more of an injury risk over the last few seasons, but when healthy, there's no denying he still has ace potential. The 34-year-old right-hander hasn't made more than 15 starts in any of the last three seasons due to injuries.

  • Jacob deGrom Throwing To Live Hitters Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) will throw to live hitters in spring training on Wednesday. deGrom is expected to throw around 30 pitches on Wednesday, and barring any kind of setback, he should be ready for Opening Day at the end of March after initially feeling left side tightness early in camp. The 34-year-old right-hander still has ace potential, but he's become much riskier in fantasy drafts given his recent injury history. If he gets through the rest of spring training unfazed while looking strong, fantasy managers will feel a little bit more comfortable taking him as a fantasy ace in his first year with the Rangers.

  • Jacob deGrom Expected To Face Live Hitters On Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) is scheduled to face live hitters for the first time on Wednesday. It's worth noting this is a tentative schedule, so things could change from now until Wednesday. The 34-year-old threw a bullpen session on Saturday without any issues. It sounds like the team wants deGrom to throw against live hitters a few times before he gets into Spring Training action. There is still plenty of time for deGrom to get healthy before Opening Day. Fantasy managers should check back later in the week for another update on deGrom.

  • Jacob deGrom To Throw Two More Bullpens

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) is expected to throw two more bullpen sessions before he makes his Cactus League debut. Catcher Mitch Garver, who caught deGrom's bullpen on Sunday, was impressed with the right-hander. "Very special fastball," Garver said. "It looks different than anybody I've ever caught before. Seeing him come down the mound like that he was probably 85 percent, which is impressive by itself." After experiencing some left side soreness early in camp, the 34-year-old is now on track to be ready for Opening Day, barring any further setbacks. deGrom is surely an injury risk after dealing with plenty of injuries in recent seasons, but he's also still a fantasy ace when healthy.

  • Jacob deGrom On Schedule After Sunday Bullpen

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) looked like his normal self during a bullpen session of close to 30 pitches on Sunday. "It feels good," deGrom said upon coming off the mound. We've been watching deGrom closely early in spring training after he reported some left side soreness after one of his first throwing sessions at camp. But he has slowly ramped up his throwing over the last week and appears to be back on schedule in order to be ready for Opening Day. The 34-year-old will need to throw one live batting practice session before making his Cactus League debut for the Rangers. Given all of his injuries over the last several seasons, it's normal to have a bit of reluctance when taking deGrom as a fantasy ace in 2023.

  • Jacob deGrom Feels Good After Throwing Session

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) said he threw 10 pitches off of a half mound and 13 pitches off a regular mound on Thursday, consisting of all fastballs. He felt good during the session after reporting some left side tightness following a throwing session at spring training early last week. The 34-year-old took things easy on Thursday, but it's a good sign that he came out of it feeling good. The Rangers are practicing the utmost caution with their new ace, especially considering his lengthy injury history in recent seasons. Barring a setback with his side, deGrom should be ready for Opening Day in his first year in Texas, where he'll be risk/reward fantasy ace.

  • Jacob deGrom To Throw First Bullpen On Thursday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session of spring training on Thursday, according to manager Bruce Bochy. deGrom reported left side tightness after a throwing session early last week, and the Rangers held him back as a precaution early in camp given his long list of injuries in recent seasons. The 34-year-old right-hander resumed working out on Sunday and hasn't had any setbacks, so he will continue his throwing progression as he ramps up for the 2023 season. The two-time Cy Young winner will be delayed in making his Cactus League debut, but barring any more setbacks, he should be ready for Opening Day. deGrom is a top-10 fantasy starter, but he also comes with a good amount of injury risk in his first year in Texas.

  • Jacob deGrom To Continue Throwing Program Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) felt good after a workout on Sunday and will continue his throwing program on Monday. deGrom experienced some tightness in his left side in a bullpen session last week, prompting the Rangers to shut him down for a couple days as a precaution. It appears to be a minor injury, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on the oft-injured 34-year-old right-hander. As long as he doesn't have any further setbacks in camp, deGrom should be ready for the start of the regular season in his first year in Texas. deGrom should remain a top-10 fantasy starter with the Rangers, but the risk of injury makes him much more volatile than most fantasy aces.

  • Jacob deGrom Improving

Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young said that right-hander Jacob deGrom (side) has been improving and wanted to throw on Saturday, but the team is being extra cautious. If all goes well, deGrom will play catch on Sunday. The 34-year-old is being brought along very slowly given all of his injuries in recent seasons, and he won't pitch in Cactus League games in the first week of spring training games. As long as everything goes well with his next throwing session, deGrom should continue to build back up for the 2023 season. deGrom is one of the most dominant pitchers in the sport when he's healthy, but he hasn't gone over 15 starts in any of the last three seasons due to injuries. He's a big risk/reward top-10 fantasy starting pitcher in his first year in Texas.

  • AL West Notes: Maldonado, deGrom, Bleday

Martin Maldonado played through a sports hernia and a broken hand for the latter part of the 2022 season, toughing it out to remain on the field and help the Astros win a championship.  As a result, Maldonado admitted that he “felt a little sad” that the Astros looked at Willson Contreras and other available…

  • Jacob deGrom To Be Evaluated Friday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) will be evaluated on Friday. If that goes well, manager Bruce Bochy said that deGrom could throw again as early as Saturday. The Rangers pushed deGrom's throwing session back on Wednesday after he reported tightness in his left side during a bullpen session earlier this week. The Rangers will be using the utmost caution with the 34-year-old right-hander early in camp, especially considering all the injuries he's dealt with in recent seasons. There's a chance this isn't really anything serious, but we won't really know until Friday or until he resumes throwing. When healthy, deGrom is a top-10 fantasy ace, but the injury risk is real.

  • Jacob deGrom Feeling Tightness In His Side

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) felt some tightness in his left side, and the Rangers are going to hold him back a day or two at spring training as a precaution due to how early it is in spring training. According to sources, deGrom would likely play through the issue if it was the regular season. It doesn't sound very serious, but with the oft-injured 34-year-old ace, any injury should cause fantasy managers to hold their breath. deGrom signed a five-year, $185 million deal with the Rangers in December to be Texas' ace moving forward. We'll keep a close eye on him early in camp, but if it turns out to be nothing serious, he'll be a top-10 fantasy starter with injury risk. deGrom has only thrown 182 innings over the last two years due to injuries.
